We are a couple considering spending our week's vacation in Budapest in mid-August, but our fixed dates coincide with the annual Sziget (Rock) Festival that an estimated 300,000 - 500,000 people may attend just outside town. Have any older adult (ie non-Sziget oriented) travelers visited Budapest during that festival, and can advise on its impact in/around Budapest and airport travel? Thank you in advance for your information.
Reply to this I haven't had experience, but Sziget festival is confined on an island a bit out of the city centre. I doubt it would affect the tourist attractions a whole lot.
Reply to this Hi Laura,
Whether or not there is a festival taking place, there is a huge number of foreign tourists in Budapest in the summer months, so the city will feel like it's flooded with non-Hungarians anyway. But I guess most of the rock fans would take the train to Budapest as opposed to flying in?

Reply to this Zeibura and Jon, thank you both for your replies. We're going there a different week, looking forward to it but prepared for a lot of tourists there during the summer. Laura
