Off to Mykonos and we are both very excited, we found the ferry no problem and it was very well organised, you took your luggage to the guy loading it and he stuffed it onto a pallet, Pam’s went into a special box as she told him it was fragile. Following the stream of other passengers we headed to the upper deck and found a table by the window to base ourselves from, being a 6 hour trip we wanted a good seat. The vibe on the boat was just great with everyone off to one or other of the islands, our trip takes in Syros first, then Tinos and finally Mykonos. It was mayhem at the stops as the ferry which I must mention is huge, 4 passenger levels, at least two car and freight ... read more

I love Athens και δεν συμμαζεύεται. Welcome to Plaka Island, Enjoy (=Ιντζόι)... read more

Geo: 37.9792, 23.7166 GÜN 07 GÜNLERDEN ÇARŞAMBA: Pire'ye sabah 06:00 da vardık ..Güzel uyumuşum … Yanaşmaya yakın araca bindim ve sorunsuz karaya çıktık . Her taraf kapalı… Today’s port was Pireus, the port of Athens. Of course, when you come to Athens, the main tourist attraction is the Parthenon. Sitting atop the Acropolis, a stone mesa rising above the city of Athens, it is a majestic sight from afar. Up close, the tourist hordes appear, and it takes on more of an anthill appearance. One of the most amazing things we see all over Europe is the school groups at these places. Coming from Australia, it just seems like the most amazing thing to be able to go on a school tour to the Parthenon or the Colliseum, not just read about it or see pictures but to walk on the ancient cobblestones and see the chisel marks from 2500 years ago. But back to the Parthenon… It is still under reconstruction with ... read more

Well folks in case you thought I had dropped off the face of the Earth – well no, just went from Turkey to Greece for only a few hours really. Had intended to spend the night on Kos, the 2ndlargest Greek Island not far from Bodrum in Turkey en route to Athens. But the afternoon boat on Sunday was sold out so found a nicer pansyon to spend my final night in, with a sea view no less. Then the 9.15am catamaran on Monday to Kos, where I had almost 12 hours to fill until overnight ferry to Piraeus/Athens at 9.50pm, which I managed. I had a berth in a 3 bed cabin but only 2 of us so quite comfortable – and better than a night sleeping upright as in planes/buses that’s for sure. Now ... read more

Today was a day of contrasts. Our morning was completely different to our afternoon. Our alarm went off at 6.15am. With a groan we both pull ourselves out of bed. We have to meet in the theatre at 7.45 for our tour but need to shower and breakfast before that. We are promptly rung at 6.30 by David to advise that breakfast was on it's way to our room (a surreptitious way of checking we were up methinks). It was still dark outside as we sit eating scrambled eggs and bacon on our balcony and pull into the port for Athens, Piraeus. After Marseille & Genoa it is the 3rd largest in the Med. Queen Elizabeth and Costa Pacifica follow us in. Navigator of the Seas is already docked. We join our tour group and head ... read more
