Thursday, June 10th: Today was going to be a day filled with shopping for last minute items (chocolate!!) and souvenirs. Of course…Kenya HAD to get one more box of Legos…how many is that now!!!???  I was just a slight bit worried about the process of starting to pack! Let’s see…we came with two suitcases and two backpacks. We bought that shopping cart in Florence, and another backpack in Paris, so we had those too. Plus my aunt had bought tons of chocolate for us to bring home…yummm…we WILL make it fit! In the afternoon, we were going to go to my uncle’s restaurant for lunch/dinner. He is a French chef actually, married to my mom’s cousin Renate. His restaurant is pretty well known in Germany. His name is very French sounding too: Jean-Claude. My dad ... read more

Wednesday, June 9th: Yawn! Streeeetch!!!! Yikes…what happened this morning!? Another bathroom fiasco! I swear, I think my aunt and uncle are so ready to get rid of all of their house guests! Just kidding…they were so gracious during our whole stay…we NEVER felt like we were outstaying our welcome…except for this morning…if I were the home owner, I think I may have shown a crack in my composure…LOL. Here is what happened: I am not sure if I have previously described the absolutely stunning shower that my aunt and uncle have in their main bath. It is considered a shower that disabled people could use and roll their wheelchairs right into. The stall is all glass walls, about 8 feet high from floor to ceiling. The doors both open outward from the corner of the stall. ... read more

Sunday, June 6th: *Yawn*…another day to rest and sleep in!  Today was the last day of our little family reunion! I think Kenya was a little happy about that…she was starting to have kind of a hard time keeping up with the language barrier and playing with the three girls. She pretty much just wanted to play with her new Lego sets and be left alone! LOL Anyway, we got up and ate breakfast…boy, as yummy as this food is, my body will be happy to go home and eat our food again! My ankles have been so swollen since we got here…not used to eating so many sausages and salamis!  Even with ALL of the walking we have been doing, and all of the water, they are still swollen! Aargh…. We went into ... read more

Saturday, June 5th: Today was going to be a hot day! My mom, dad and uncle were going to take Margit home that morning, so, my aunt and I gathered the girls up and went to the local waterpark. I had fond memories of going to the pool with my grandparents, when I was little. They swam every day, rain or shine, in the huge Olympic sized pool. Recently, the city renovated the pool and made it a waterpark, both inside and out! It was completely unrecognizable from the memories of my youth! There were a total of four pools, three outside and a huge one inside. One of the outdoor pools had three levels of diving boards, and the girls wanted to go on the middle one so bad, but kept getting scared! By then ... read more

Friday, June 4th: Early this morning, Christian and his family arrived for breakfast. They are staying nearby at the local sports club. Denisa had gotten really sick the night before and spent most of the evening at the ER with a super high fever. She went and pretty much just laid low in the living room while everyone else ate breakfast and got ready for the day. The plan was to go and celebrate Margit’s birthday at a local restaurant (gasthaus). I let Kenya go with the girls to the playground a few blocks away…I still can’t get over how hard it was to let her go by herself…we would NEVER do something like that in America! That is so sad! Anyway, by 11:30 we all climbed into the various cars and drove the 5 minutes ... read more

Aaahhh…it was so nice to wake up and not have anywhere to rush to today! I leisurely got up, went out to the kitchen got my 1st cup of coffee, and went back to bed to read for a little bit. The smell of the coffee eventually woke Kenya up, so started the day!! After taking a shower, we took Falco for a long walk and ate breakfast…you guessed right…fresh rolls!!!! Our plan for the day, was to just explore Bitburg and get reacquainted with it. I had not been there for 25 years, and there were a few things that were familiar to me…the brewery of course!! But the town had expanded its’ brewing operations, so there were several new buildings and a new factory that you could see for miles! We walked into town, ... read more

Monday, May 31st: I do remember what I had to eat last night! I had Leberknödel Suppe (liver dumpling soup) with ribbons of french crepes in it...and a salad. I sort of read the menu wrong, and I thought that I was going to get a soup and salad, then a crepe with Nutella on it for dessert. When I finished my soup and salad, I waited and waited for my crepe with Nutella! When I complained to my mom that the waitress was taking so long, she informed me that I had already eaten the crepe...it was what was in the soup! LOL!!! Oh well...that’s what I get for trying to show off and pretend I am fluent in reading German! So, waking up this morning was awesome! Kenya and I were so cozy in ... read more
