Anschließend ... read more

Marburg is a great place to walk about - both on one level and up and down crooked, cobbled paths. After sleeping through our jet lag we greeted our first morning in Marburg with a typical German breakfast of breads, cold meats and cheeses. Across from our hotel is a lift which transports people up to the Aldstadt (the old town). A walk through a passage from the lift opens out to a street with charming old (17th and 18th C) shopfronts and cafes. Nearby is the Markt (town square) with the Rathaus (town hall) where a cock, somewhat feebly crows every quarter hour atop the clock tower. A ten minute walk in the beautiful sunshine, along a steep cobbled path brought us to the top of the old town and to the Schloss (castle) originally ... read more

In that order! From Melbourne, 9 1/2 hours to HK then 12 hours had us arriving in Frankfurt (Main) at around 6 am. Shuttle to terminal 2, easily achieved, found the Reisezentrum (travel centre), purchased tickets for Marburg which is a 1 1/2 hour trip by regional train from Frankfurt Hautbahnhof (main station). So train from Airport station then change to regional train for Marburg. Then a leisurely train ride passing green fields and red poppies and other pretty wild flowers lining the train tracks. We prefer the regional trains, because although slower, they stop at more stations and therefore we see more of the countryside and more locals. Also much cheaper! Arrived Marburg bleary eyed and dazed we walked about 10 minutes to our hotel which is ideally situated opposite tourist office and lift leading ... read more

We woke up early... the sun comes up way to early in this country (4am). While waiting for breakfast, we explored the castle some more, and snapped some photos. After a nice breakfast on the patio of the castle, we did a little more exploring, and found a door that led out onto the original castle ramparts. Anne was scared by a small german child who thought we were her friends. The Castle had a summer language camp with a dozen or so children. They were very energetic.. how fun!! We left the castle late morning, and stopped by a grocery store in Oberwesel. It was an interesting mix of familiar products (coke, evian and harblo), and lots of unfamiliar products. We were able to check out of the store without having to ask anyone if ... read more

Hey everybody!!! Lots of stuff to talk about.. where to start? Well Ashley and our friend (Sarah) arrived last Tuesday here in Marburg for their two week visit. We spent the night in Marburg, then left for Paris on Wednesday after my class. Got to Paris that evening and went for a nice stroll after finding our hostel and such. Nice location by the Sacre-Couer, and a metro stop. The first night we walked down Champ-Elysees and checked out the Arc de Triomphe. Then we spotted the top of the eiffel tower, and decided to try and walk to it. Note, if you go to Paris and see the tower in the distance, it is probably further away than it looks. Anyway, eventually got to it and took lots of pictures (ps, it is awesome!). Then ... read more

Ahh, here is the second part I promised you all. Today I started my first week of regular semester classes. Unfortunately, that meant class starting at 8am. That will take some time to get used to. Today's class was Close relationships, a psych course. Should be fairly interesting. Tomorrow I have Slavery in the Americas. Yeah, I know, I came to Germany and am taking a course on American Slavery. So, about my trip over Easter break... The trip started early Thursday morning when I hopped on my train form Marburg at 635. Switched in Frankfurt, and was in Munchen by 11:15 or so. Walked down to Marienplatz to meet up with them. It was pretty awesome seeing them, and it was even cooler that it was in Munich. After that we headed over to BMW ... read more

Hello, and welcome back to my world here in Marburg! Stayed in Marburg this weekend, and had a great time. Let's see... Friday most of our group went over to the one guys house and watched 'Trolls 2.' It is a realllllly terrible movie, but it has kind of become like a 'cult classic' of some sorts because of that. Apparently, the directors were Italian, so the script is just awful because the translations were not always great. Also, our friend said that the director did not use the usual technique of shooting a scene multiple times to get it right, haha. Needless to say, it was awful, but hilarious for that very reason. Anyway, I turned it in early after that cause I didn't feel like dancing (where most of my friends went after). Saturday ... read more

Hello again! This entry should be a little more exciting. Two weekends ago A group of us went to Rudesheim. It is a small town along the Romantic Rhine river. It is known as a wine town and it had vineyards all around it. Unfortunately, it is the off season, so the winery, etc was closed, but it was still a cool little town and was fun to walk around for a few hours. Then this past weekend we went to Trier on a school trip. We left Friday and came back on Sunday. Trier is a city near the border of Luxembourg. It is said to be the oldest city in Germany. It was also a big city for the Romans back in the day, even being called "Rome of the north." It was very ... read more
