I have returned! So, once again I will apologise for the cut off on the last entry, stupid fascist computer... trying to stop me from expressing myself.... Anyway, today was a very good day, except the whole part where I had to get up at 7:30. Early mornings should be abolished... (if and when I rule the world... the first thing to go...) So we woke up today, and got dressed and such. I am so in love with our hostel this time! It is just so quaint. Another bonus is that it is clean, which, I actually came to realise aids in my cockroach count for the trip being as low as it is, a wonderfully fabulous ZERO!!!! I cannot expres my joy that I have not yet seen even one trace of a roach. ... read more

Sarah is already well in the midst of writing her journal on these godforsaken keyboards, she has much more patience than I, so instead I will just say that we are now in lovely Paris, so far my favorite city (although they were all great!), last night was the Bastille Day celebration, so we saw an amazing display of fireworks over the beautiful Eiffel Tower. Today we are planning on going to Montmartre and seeing Sacré Coeur and the Moulin Rouge, among other things, YAY!!! So until I find a proper keyboard, here are some more photos! Enjoy!... read more

Okay, it's me again, but this time I have a longer time to figure out this ridiculous keyboard - every letter is in the wrong place and it took me forever to find the @ sign. Yeesh. So last we wrote we were still in London, staying at that godforsaken hostel. I need to vent about it, so here are all the horrible things in point form: Our beds looked like they were picked up at a garage sale, 1/2 price; they were squeaky and uncomfortable and the top bunks didnt have railings so Sarah damn near rolled right off the bed. The carpet looked as if it had also been picked up at a garage sale but this time for free and nobody has ever bothered to vacuum since. This horrible girl in our room ... read more

Hey all! Sorry for the delay in updating, but we have just been so busy, what with plays, trains and towers, and other such business. Before I stqrt I would like to warn everyone that if this is full of spelling mistakes, it is not cuz im dumb, its because keyboards in frace are arranged differently and so i may press something without meaning to. Like the a is where the q should be and vice versa....wierd Now, to the events of the pqst while. Last we left off, we were on our way to see Les Miserables. OH MY GOD!!!!! That was by fqr the coolest thing I have ever seen. It was absolutely brilliant. Everything qbout it was amazing. No offence to qnyone who ,ay read this that was in our production, but we ... read more

Geo: 49.5059, 2.63746My Moroccan adventure started in Lille, where I was studying for a term at the uni. Lille's a great place and 'the Leeds group' real and adopted were fantastic. It was a lovely relaxing few months. Lille was City of Culture that year and there was loads going on. There was a beautiful park where we used to chill after lessons with a free zoo and porcupine. But by far our favourite past time was sitting under the 'foret suspendu,' sipping coke (!), waiting for the group to gather :)... read more

With its breezy boulevards, excellent cafés, historic museums and avant-guard fashions, Paris is the essence of all things French. This city of 2.15 million people is the premier destination for Canadian tourists traveling to Europe. I arrived at the Gare de l'Est Station in Paris early one morning with the hope of spending as much time as possible in the legendary City of Light. From its many historic building to its haute coffee shops, Paris exudes a feeling of romance and infects its visitors with a desire to love and be loved. I stayed at Paris Friends Hostel and discovered that it was the best place I have ever stayed at to make new friends. One of the drawbacks to staying at this particular hostel is that it is located in the worst neighborhood in Paris. ... read more

Again, this is part of my attempt to chronicle our five years of living outside the USA (June 2001 - June 2006). I've already done our final year, which was South Africa (click on "Previous Entries" top left of this blog page and you can see other blog entries). Now I'm going back, looking through old journals and photos to put our adventures, one by one, into blog form. Our cast starts out with the Beastie, 1981 Bedford CF 250 camper van bought on E-bay in England & fixed up as best we could; two whitewater kayaks, a 125cc motorcycle on the back, Mike, a British software engineer & whitewater fanatic, who'd given himself the handle ‘Immortal (so far)', often referred to as “Nutter” in social circles, and myself: A 29-year-old graphic designer who'd quit a perfectly good job in Seattle to tour Europe, but mostly to enjoy the company of said nutter. Mike had the advantage of several years' French class, whereas I'd spent about 8 hours with a couple of tapes and a course book, of which I'd retained enough to embarrass myself. Being American, the EU refused to insure me, so Mike was the only legal driver. I felt like an accessory, ... read more

I thought it would be a good idea to post some of the photos from Paris in May this year. I went with Renae and her mum on the Eurostar and we stayed in this cool little hotel behind the Sacre Couer. The weather was great, and we had the best time wandering around the city streets and heading out to Euro Disney for a day full of thrilling rides and screaming kids :) All in all, my memories from Paris have been some of my favourite and I can't wait to head back there ASAP... read more
