So we have bought a second hand Hi Gear Caplin 5 tent off a Facebook page Chicken set up last year after we wanted some bit and didn't want to pay full price. Anyway we got this: It is 470cm x 290cm so plenty of space for both of us and all our kit. I am 6'3'' and can stand with a little space so not a problem getting changed etc. It has a sewn in ground sheet so no water ingress or bug in the summer (I wish we had that problem). Now we got it for £70 which i was very pleased with considering the same size tent now would be between £200 and £250. We put it up in front of our garage to make sure we had all the bits and that ... read more

So following talking to Chicken we have decided that we infact going to get a tent and use that alongside the car. It is going to be easier, cheaper and we have also realised that we are going to have more time in France than we first though. So today we have said he are going to get a Hi Gear Caplin 5 tent from a selling page Chicken set up on Facebook. Here she is. Now everything we have like cars and tech bits have got names. I will think one up for the tent and let you know.... read more

So...... The car. I currently have a Honda Accord Aerodeck Estate. Its old but its good although rather thursty on petrol and was going to cost about £200 to get there. Now we needed another car anyway........ long story..... So today I went to get my new car. A Ford Galaxy. Its a 6 seater rather than the normal seven but this wasnt an issue for us. Its a really nice top of the range Galaxy on 05 plates with a built in satnav, heaters seats and cruise control, result. So this is what we are going to take to France with us. The plan being that we could sleep in the car. I found this website and thought it was an really good idea although very expensive. www.swissroombox.com. No i looked at the cost of ... read more

I have taken out European Break Down Cover with my car insurance policy. I have a very good policy and it cover everything which is good. So partly for people to comment on if they want but also so I can have a look back I am going to go through the parts and accessories for the car. I am going to make a kit list on anothe post. So being France I need to carry high visability waste coat for every person in the car, head light direction changer, a warning triangle and breath check things. Gabby (the Galaxy) has a full size spare wheel (steel but still), a jack and tyre iron. So thats flats taken care of. Now despite the fact we are going in summer I think a few space blankets and ... read more

Here's my thinking. Four of us are going from Wiltshire to Loo, Cornwall. Two of which are kids and one of which travel with everything in her room. So I have a roof box but don't want to be carrying one all over France. So I am going to pack all the kids stuff into the roof box and all Chicken's and my stuff in the back of the car. This means we can leave the roof box in Cornwall and travel lighter and lower in France. This will also keep the cost of the ferry down.... read more

So here is the Idea. My mum is turning 60 this year in August and has very kindly booked and paid for a house in Aquitaine region of France for a week. There are 16 people going including some old family friends and all my family, two sister (one older, one younger) and my brother who is older, all our partners (or husband and wife), my dad and his wife and of course the birthday girl herself, my Mum. As it happens it will also be my dads birthday whilst we are out there two. I live in Wiltshire in the UK and my other half, 'Chicken' and her two children. The children aren't coming as it is a adults only holiday and besides this way they get to spend two weeks with their dad on ... read more
