Via The Canal du Midi to Biarritz This wifi is difficult to find. Even now we cannot connect with the one of a friend. But we came away from the south coast to near Toulouse to a lovely site Domain de St. Laurant not far from the Canal du Midi which Lesley has wanted to see for some time. We explored it all ways and even went to stay with a Servas host (his first ever) in Toulouse. It's a lovely city. He was bit absent minded leaving us waiting for a desert he offered which never arrived nor he and so we went to bed. He was lost in a telephone call to his girlfriend. Then north a little way to Cordes sur Ciel near Albi and a site Le Lizart. It is English ... read more

Day 1 - Tuesday, May 8 After teaching in the morning, I arrived at the airport by 2:00 for the 4:50 plane. The team made it through security with no issues and we just hoped we had packed our skates safely. Tried to sleep on the plane… but at 5pm, it’s rather difficult. Day 2 - Wednesday, May 9 Arrived in Paris on time - 6:15am. Not much sleep for any of us… the plane was really hot (no A/C) and the entertainment system was broken… but we survived and made our quick connection to Bordeaux after landing in Paris. Upon arrival in Bordeaux, we claimed our 5 rental vehicles and stacked them full of luggage. We were very lucky to actually fit everything in! I must say, the red carry-on bags looked very impressive… and ... read more

i came to bordeaux thinking it was going to be this boring ass place....but its actually a pretty big city with lots of stuff. we signed up for a wine tour and learned some fun facts and tasted this world famous bordeaux merlot.....it was good but not amazing to me. maybe i just dont have the taste for it yet. it was interesting all in all. i didnt get drunk like i thought though. only 1.5 glasses total....not enough. it was educational i guess. i got a little bit of shopping done. picked myself up 2 pairs of really cute flats. i talked rajiv into separating for an hour so i could shop in peace. plus i needed some personal time. spending so much time with one other person that isnt a significant other or a ... read more

St EMILION - 8th May 2007 (Tuesday 21º Partly Cloudy) Today is a Public Holiday to mark the Liberation of France and the end of WWII. Homemade crepes with castor sugar for breakfast. C’EST YUM! Today we are going into Bordeaux for a look around this big city. We drive to within 5 kilometres of the city centre, park the Ford Focus Ferrari and wait to catch the train. Well it looks more like a Tram but we are assured it is a train (see photo). This city is in the process of reinventing itself. The current Mayor has embarked upon a modernisation and beautification program. He has ordered the boulevards be restored and widened, he has given right of way to pedestrians in areas formerly governed by l’automobiles, he is responsible for the modern train/tram ... read more

St EMILION - 7th May 2007 (Monday 22º Partly Cloudy) Catherine Ouzoulias is not only a great homemaker and interior decorator; she is also a great cook. Cooking aromas entice us downstairs from our room. We arrive to be seated at a lovely table for two, which is made up with antique linen tableware and crockery. The smells that drew us were the homemade apple pies, freshly baked baguettes and ginger breads. These are competing for attention with the muesli, as well as 8 different varieties of chutneys, jams, relishes and freshly brewed café au lait. After breakfast we drive to nearby Lebourne to get some digital pictures copied from SD card to CD. The guy in the Kodak shop talks about Australia and in particular the recent drug use allegations against Ian Thorpe. Of course ... read more

LA ROCHELLE to St EMILION - 6th May 2007 (Sunday 24º) We have been blessed with the weather. It is another cracking day in the South East of France and what does one do when the weather is good? Well one does one’s washing, doesn’t one! I spend 20 minutes in the Laundrette next door to the Hotel working out how to operate the soap powder dispenser and finally extract enough powder to make some bubbles. Throw the clothes into a washing machine the size of a Cement Truck and leave Deb in charge as I go to extract the car from the underground car park. It is a peaceful walk through Town, after all it is Sunday, and even the French must rest. I am fearful that the FFF (Ford Focus Ferrari) may be jacked ... read more

Sup everybody, So I safely arrived in Bordeaux early this morning. There are lots of stories to tell, but I will get to those tonight or maybe tomorrow. I will be getting on a train to Le Buisson later tonight and meeting my new farming friends. I can hardly wait to sleep... I've been up almost 24 hours straight. I believe Derek is in Spain at the moment, I have not heard from him in a couple of days. He wasn't having a good time in Morocco so he decided to leave. There is a farm in the North of Spain that he really wants to go to, maybe he headed there? Anyways tell you guys more later!!! xoxox Princess Stephka... read more

The two most wonderful things about Bordeaux for me (Matt) were the wine tasting and the football match (soccer for the lay American). So, I figured I would give a compare/contrast of the two events. Football Match: 1. Cheerleaders US = cute girls with pom poms leading cheers Them = drunk guy with megaphone leading cheers and songs that EVERYBODY knows (except us of course) 2. Start of game US = flashblubs everywhere Them = first two rows set road flares on fire 3. Fan Passion US = lots of cheering and booing Them = From Stephan - our friend/guide for the game "A fan was shot and killed by a cop in Paris last night during a game, but these two teams are friendly, so I think it should be okay." Also, they closed off ... read more
