Geo: 50.0878, 14.4205 We caught the tram into Prague Old City to catch up with one of the Walking Tours. We fronted up to a young girl with a Yellow "English" umbrella, and asked her about the walking tour, which she proceeded to describe in a perfect Aussie accent. She was born in Czechoslovakia, her parents having fled the country when she was three years old, ending up in Australia. She now lives in Czech Republic and was a great guide around the old city, being a wealth of knowledge about the history of Czech Republic. After lunch we fronted up for a walking tour of Prague Castle, and was greeted by another Aussie tour guide, a young Uni Student from Melbourne. Hence my blog title for today, Czech Mate. He gave a detailed tour and ... read more

Geo: 50.0878, 14.4205 After signing out of our accommodation in Dresden, on the recommendation of our hosts, we visited Moritzburg Castle on the way out of Dresden. As can be seen from the pictures, it is a large castle in the centre of a lake, linked by a causeway to the land. Basically for defence purposes. This was one of the castles of King August the Strong. As we were leaving Dresden the water was very close to topping the sand bags along the river. From there we made our way to Prague. The journey was a little staggered due to flooding, but we still made reasonable time. We stayed in Czech Republic's first Eco Tourism Hotel, situated in a former 17th Century Abbey, which partially remains an Abbey. The hotel was excellent, with a fine ... read more

Čau, It's taken a long time for me to get around to writing this and letting you all know that I'm still alive and enjoying myself. That's exactly why it has taken so long - I've been enjoying myself so much. It's been wonderful to be back in the Czech Republic, I definitely made the right decision coming back here. I must have looked like such an idiot on the bus from Berlin to Prague. As we entered the Czech Republic, and later as we entered Prague, I was so happy and just sat there smiling to myself. I felt like I'd come home. Being here has been like when I used to live here, I definitely don't feel like a tourist. I really know Prague so well, probably much better than a lot of its ... read more

...so here's what they call a Feast in the Czech Republic. - It's way too hot here at the moment. That is all. Summer isn't over yet though - I might be doing a trip down to Croatia later on in the month, which will include - cheapo train to Ljubljana in Slovenia, spending a night there, then onwards to Novalja to see my family (including the newest addition), then maybe back via Zagreb, Balaton, and/or Vienna to see a few friends.. May also be doing a short excursion to Munich before I leave to see someone too. Until then I've been mostly living off bread and cheese and polishing off Noggers on a regular basis. čau čau.... read more

It's only been a day and a half and I'm already feeling pretty much at home here. The flight over and journey to the flat were both fine, I arrived quite late in the evening and bloody starving, so took the opportunity to go and discover the local 24 hour shop, where I was attacked by some dog, twitching from god knows what someone had slipped in its food. The first czech I learned while here is that a viennese shortbread is known as a "třený bananek", which literally means "fricative banana" and made me lol. Yesterday, first and foremost I had a huge cold, but I spent a productive day unpacking all my stuff, sorted my room out (which is lovely and with loooads of space) and did loads of shopping for stuff I knew ... read more
