DIVE DESTINATION CROATIA It wasn’t easy. I bought a ticket on Veuling Air to fly to Croatia from Sicily. I had to pay extra to avoid a full day layover in Rome, then I had to pay one hundred euros for my check-in bag, at the airport. Although I had been the second person in line three hours earlier, by the time I paid for the luggage and got through security the information board said my plane was boarding. It wasn’t. I ran to the gate where people were milling around in no particular order like a pen full of sheep, and almost as crowded. After a lengthy wait, we finally boarded the plane. What a relief. I booked an Airbnb in Cavtat, a little town on the coast in Croatia, near Dubrovnik. The Bacan Serviced ... read more

Sorry, I'm a bit behind with my blog - to busy having fun...………….. Thursday 2nd May to Saturday 4th May Ston We are now retracing our steps back to Split. We passed Ston on the way down to Dubrovnik but the nearest campsite didn’t open until 1st May. The campsite is about four kilometres outside of Ston at Prapratno tucked into a steep sided small bay with the car ferry to Mljet leaving from a jetty at one end. It is an idyllic setting. We found a walking path to Ston that avoided the road and took us past smallholdings with vegetable patches, strawberry fields, cherry orchards, vines, olive trees and beehives. I have seen a few snakes on our walks up in the mountains but today John overtook me in the snake spotting stakes after ... read more

Day 15 and we continue northwards . Tonight will be our last night in Croatia. Let's get the weather out of the way. It is marginally warmer but nothing to write home about. Not the temperatures we were looking for when we planned the holiday. We are parked up on a campsite on the banks of the River Mur. The train line to Zagreb runs the other side of the river and within an hour we could be sightseeing in Zagreb. We are not keen as we are not in the mood for cities. Duga Resa is a small town and we are just outside the town. If you ever find yourself looking for Camping Slapic then do not trust your Sat Nav. Follow the signs on the motorway that suggest you turn off earlier than ... read more

Today I am asking you to think back to your childhood and holidays or even to taking your own children on holiday. What is your lasting memory of those trips? Perhaps not the destination or even arriving but the words "Have we got there yet?" or "Have we been here before?". They seemed to be the only words spoken on a journey. It starts as soon as you leave home and continues mile after mile. In motorhoming there is not always an end destination. Just a few dots on a map, a few points of interest that you join together on the holiday. Eventually you get back to where you started and have come round full circle. We had a vague end point but didn't quite get there. The poor weather just spoiled it for us. ... read more

Vacation time! Where shall we go this time? Let us visit the beautiful coast of Croatia – Dalmatia! I prepared a brief plan containing everything from the links, where we could sleep, eat, what to visit… The main cause of planning is to calculate all the costs to see if we can afford a trip and especially to find the best opportunities for sightseeing. The plan is not intended to be followed up strictly and as a sheep follow my instructions. It's designed to know that for 1st of November, the boat on Korcula does not drive as often as we need it, but that the amusement park is already closing the first weekend of our journey and that we cannot stop back from the trip and that the tickets to visit Krka National Park are ... read more

So here we are in Camping Kate. Last time we were here we stayed at Camping Solitudo. What a difference two camp sites are. Camping Solitudo very popular. Very expensive . We paid with Camping Cheques. A bus journey into Dubrovnik. Camping Kate - on the other side of the city. A boat trip into Dubrovnik . An ACSI site with no amenities. Very flat pitches, a small reception , a long walk down to the harbour. The showers left a lot to be desired . At this time of year we could park anywhere we liked. We pitched up next to an empty pitch which was later filled by a family of Lithuanians. They set up two tents , the mother wore pink PJ's and wrapped a blanket round herself. Our other neighbours were in ... read more

Right hold on to your seats we are going down. We have just driven into the town /village of Trsteno and have spotted the sign for Autocamp Trsteno. That is where we are parking in order to take you on a tour of the wonderful arboretum next door. We will park overnight here too even though there is little else to do in the town. It is a sharp turn off the road. Ok I know perhaps we should have realised the road was more car sized than Gabby sized. But the sign says camp site this way so there must be a way down. So on we go ever downwards to the gardens. Surely once we get round the first bend it will become a little easier . We just need to do a bit ... read more

The ferry ride was great . A large catamaran and good visibility is a great combination. Sometimes we were on the open sea, the Adriatic , others we were sailing between islands. I can not lie , a slept at least an hour. I think I shortchanged Dubrovnik. I think it is one of the largest walled cities I have ever been in . Day three we had gone over to Lokrun Island and from the water I realized what a lovely city it was. There are lots of levels and stairs to climb and it is tiring walking about but it is worth the effort .Fortunately we were able to aŕive each day @9 am before the masses from the cruise ships arrived. It is a busy , and expensive place , with hordes visiting ... read more

Let's for a change start at the end rather than the beginning. Books these days seem not to follow the pattern of a beginning, a middle and an ending. The authors jumble up the present and the past. They tell the tale in small episodes from each persons life. The whole thing only comes together at the end as all the threads are drawn in. We are sitting on an almost deserted campsite next to a pebbly beach and a small car park. The car park has a massive sign NO CAMPING CARS. Our neighbours are parents of a small baby who is quiet until his brother - a terrible two - prods him and wakes him up. The two year old screams and scream having tantrums throwing his bike over in temper. The only other ... read more
