July 31, 2008, Last day with Tata :( we spent the day hanging out with Tija's dad and all the neighbors. We visited the swinging cafe for one last whipped cream coffee. Tata took us to the grocery store and we purchased groceries for tomorrow's bus ride to Croatia- the usual, chocolate, cheese, crackers, and fruit, except we decided to pick the fruit from the pear tree. Tata got these little whole fried fish for dinner. After visiting some fine folk at the top of the hill, we headed to the infamous couch for dinner. Fried fish with sweet neighbors. Tata got wine for the last night and we spent the night celebrating life together, singing Dalmatian songs, watching the neigborhood friends, and loving life. Tata never actually got James' name right and continued to call ... read more

Hello from our new home, our yacht ‘Paulina’ Well it is now Friday the 11th of April and I haven’t put up a blog since the 4th. Simple reason is we have been out in the boonies and the internet is still thought of in the same vein as putting man on mars!!. So, since we last posted….. that was the morning after we left Dubrovnik and caught our bus from Dubrovnik to Sukosan, about 400 klms to the north where we picked up our boat. The bus was a reasonably old style coach, quite comfortable and another travel experience for the girls. As we suspected, the road wound it’s way along the coast for almost all of the way and the coastal scenery, as you would expect, is pretty spectacular. There were a lot of ... read more

After a few days in Zadar and our trip out to Plitvice National Park, we hopped on a bus for the two hour trip to Sibenik. As the bus drove into Sibenik through these communist style, ugly high rises and dirty streets, I might have mumbled “Adam, please can we not get off the bus”. But Adam wasn’t listening and dragged me off the bus promising it had to get better than the bus station…. And it was. Once we rounded the corner and out onto the waterfront I changed my mind - the place seemed pretty nice and by the time we reached the old town I was loving the place! Well at least I did once we finally found our accommodation! The streets are about a million years old (that might be a slight ... read more

It seems everyone has something to say about Croatia so we waved goodbye the British summer and spent a few weeks backpacking around the Dalmation coast. After leaving the busy port area of Split we caught a bus and headed along the coast. Passing along the way, the most beautiful inlets of inky blue water. Outside the (barely) air conditioned bus, the temperature was rising and the sky was deep blue. We passed stunning little towns such as Trogir and Primosten and we were soon both wishing we were touring the country in our own car - we would have loved to have stopped and explored them all. Croatia was certainly getting the thumbs up so far. We arrived at the small town of Sibenik, not expecting much as it was only serving as a stop-over ... read more

Šibenik on a day trip Today, I went from Zadar early, early in the morning to catch a bus to Šibenik and then on to Split. I wanted to see Šibenik because of some friends who live there. I've been told by several Croatia-guides that Šibenik is not a very interesting place! This was my reason for going there only on a day trip. And what happens? As I walked from the bus station towards the centre I started following several signs indicating a castle. For eternities, the road went up, while my bag-pack was feeling like a rock and I was sweating heavily because of the strong sun. But it was worth it. As I entered the fortress of St. Ana, the man at the entrance offered to keep my bag, while I would be ... read more
