Next day had to catch the bus to Veliko Tarnovo...walked around the old town in the morning. The rain is heading to this region...__" ahhhh. I loved Plovdiv though....wish I had spent more time there!!!! Anyways, took the bus and arrived at V.T. arrived at this bus station in the middle of nowhere???? it wasn;t on the map!!!! so lost.. thank god for the first time, the payphone and the number worked! I called for free pickup and they came to pick me up to the hostel!!=) The owner there was very nice.....nice hostel...a very diverse crowd...not as fun as I expected though....-__-" So then I started chilling and talking to people at the hostel when this drunk American guy starting walking around..talking to people and insulting people.....horrible person. S odstupom par dni musim uznat, ze napriek akokolvek 'jedinecnym' zazitkom, som si uz stihla vybudovat k Plevenu isty citovy vztah. No vazne :-). No a co noveho?

! - Ak si budes davat veci do skrine (co asi hej, lebo ine priestory na skladovanie tam moc nie su), nechaj si vzdy apson jedny dvierka skrine otvorene - nech do nej prudi vzduch ...inak budes vychutnavat vonu X desatrocnej skrine s kazdou koselou :) - Zehlicka - to bola moja morning story !

......no predsa v PLEVENE :-) Day 2: Zijem :)! Highlighty dnesneho dna: - Mam novych 3 rodicov - Tym, ze som tu tieto prve dni sama, Tatiana, Dessi ... read more

The last few days have been so charged with life it's been incredible. Our vague travelling three (Val, Kinsey, and I) easily turned into a four as we made plans at our turkish host's place. It seems Cem also had little better to do than hang out with Americans, and the lack of a Bulgarian visa and threat of a night in a cell was but a small obsticle. The four of us piled into the overnight train loaded with Turkish dinner, wine, and deserts. I don't know what it is, but there;s something inherently epic about taking a train from Istanbul - maybe it's got something to do with the old Silk Route.. or maybe it was just my appalling knowledge of history and an overactive imagination :) We got into Sofia, the capital of ... read more

Hello everyone, The highlight of my travels through Bulgaria was at the town of Veliko Tarnovo. It goes way back and has a huge fortress. Visiting during the day was okay, but at 9:30 most evenings they have a light and sound show. The music was specially written and covers the history of Bulgaria. The entire structure--cathedral, walls, gates are lit up with lights coordinated with the music. In all they use 630 km. of cables powering 2500 colour projectors, 140 flash lights, laser rays and 6 mechanical bells. The show lasts about half an hour and is just wonderful. Even better, it is free! Just outside Veliko Tarnovo is the village of Arbanasi. Bulgaria is very mountainous and this village is ideally situated to take advantage of the beautiful scenery. Back in the 1600's it ... read more

i just wanted to let everyone know that today i had what i'd like to call a "language seizure" that happened as a result of my speaking catalan, spanish, english, french, and bulgarian all within a 2 minute period. i literally started shaking and sweating. in other news, i bought a cell phone yesterday, but as of now there aren't any minutes on it so i have to go buy a voucher. i'm keeping it in bulgarian which is pretty sweet, plus no one will be able to get into my phone unless they know bulgaria or cyrillic, i suppose. also, i'm at this secret university internet cafe place that's free, and the computers are actually updated, so tomorrow i intend to come back and FINALLY upload some pictures for y'all. being here today and thinking ... read more

so basically i'm having the most amazing time of my life and i never want to leave... bulgaria has turned us americans into alcoholics and chain smokers, so i don't think i'll be able to elaborate much on our fun times in this blog, lol. but just so you know, we're all totally in love with this place and don't want to leave anytime soon. luckily it hasn't even been one week yet. yesterday i had this "excursion" at 9am instead of class all throughout the city. significantly exhausted and hung over after another night of fun and 2 hours of sleep, it was painful. naturally it was also in the 90's. well, i actually have no idea what the temperature was since i don't know celcius, but whatever. my group was like 10 people, and ... read more

I think I managed to get sick of Music in Velıka Tarnovo. Don't worry, it's not a permanent illness, But a few days I just wanted silence. The problem was that the hikers hostel where I was staying, although lovely, deemed ıt reasonable to play mind numbıng trance music from early morning to early evening. From then it got even worse, as a couple of obnoxious australians (whose major conversation topic was how much illegal substances they took) would hog the stereo and insist on playing 'a perfect circle' and every other experiemental metal band that I dont know the name of. Apart from this testing ordeal, which forced me to stay away most of the time, Velika was a charming rustic town with a spectacular setting on a ridge overlooking a river. I had travelled ... read more
