Vienna Day One 009

Kathy visits St Stevens and affixes herself to the stone!! Well . . . . I don't think the video of me describing what happens really does it justice. Robert and I were touring Vienna's pride and joy - St. Stephen's Cathedral. One of the stops was to go look at the bell tower and a view of Vienna. Well, Robert bought us tickets and both of us went up in this little elevator with this nice Viennese man. The door opens and you have to walk out onto a grate surrounded by a metal fence that is hanging off of [View Full Entry]

a walk in the park

Howdy; Nancy and Joey arrive on Saturday and we play the Innsbruck Raiders on Sunday. They are the team that spoiled our perfect season last year. Beating us in the Austrian championship the week after we won the European title. It will be interesting. We will be trying to avenge our loss and they will be trying to prove their win wasn’t a fluke. It’s going to be a fun weekend. Here’s how I spent Thursday, our day off. I walked along the Danube uninterrupted for about an hour and decided because it was such a beautiful day to go [View Full Entry]

folklore

Europe » Austria » Vienna State
If you believe in folklore Dürnstein is the place in Austria for you to visit. It’s a small village located about thirty kilometers west of Vienna on the Danube in what is called the Wachau valley. It was here in 1192 that King Richard the Lion-Heart was imprisoned in the castle of Kuenringer. Legend has it that the King was discovered when he recognized the voice of his minstrel aide singing a merry tune on his way to Vienna while in search of his master. For me the city conjures up visions of Robin Hood, Prince John and Maid Marion. [View Full Entry]

OK, so in Vienna now and it is not too bad. Huge, nice buildings in the city center. Our hostel is great. Huge! Nice bar downstairs, they give you a free drink when you enter, happy hour 6 to 8>00 tonight, etc. We also got a great room for 18 euros. 4 beds and private bath, shower, and fan with a table and chairs. Way different. Oh yeah, so Roger and I just had a huge meal each of grasshoppers, ostrich, kangaroo, and crocodile meat with a Fosters beer. Good times! More later. . . [View Full Entry]

I finally slept like a normal person last night!! I think I am getting over the jet lag so that is very exciting. We went to school this morning and classes were even better than yesterday. During our first break I explored the main school building with Ashley. For supposedly being a gifted school they don’t seem to have too much technology in their classrooms. It was strange. For lunch we got salads at a little café in town and then we window shopped for a bit before going back to school. After school got out I went to the train [View Full Entry]

Biking in Austria
Biking in Austria
Look out Sarah, Odin and Christine . . . we are in training in Europe.
Guten tag! We arrived in Austria on Monday after a busy day of travel. We had breakfast in Paris, France and lunch in Munich, Germany and we ended the day with supper in Salzburg, Austria. The Austrian food we had was very hearty and delicious, and fun to try and pronounce. Schweinsbraten (Pork and dumplings) for SJ and a solid weinerschnitzl for Andy (deep fried pork)!! Salzburg is a very small city compared to where we have been and it seems very calm and not busy. Yesterday we explored the city, which included finding the pretzel stand that sold huge doughy [View Full Entry]
