Loved Munich. After our last post we did a little shopping at H & M. My favorite store. After that we hit up a local beerhall with many of our friends. Finished nearly 3 liters of beer. 2 for Lou. Tried to keep up with the boys. Then caught the last train back to the hotel and completly crashed. In the morning we stopped at a concentration camp. It was incredibly moving. The worst part was the gas chamber and we stopped in the church to pray. That was by far my favorite part. It was filled with sunflowers. Never been in such an emotional church. After that we made our way into Austria. We stopped in Innsbruck where they had the winter olympics. Sampled some local schnaps and went to the crystal show room. It ... read more

Geo: 47.4898, 11.7043Magically, my pedometer is functioning again. A little late, though. At breakfast ... they had hazelnut yogurt!!!! Whatever genius that thought of that should get a Nobel prize. I tried to learn some German on the train. "Gutentag" is probably the only thing I can say almost perfectly in another language. "Gutentag" used to be 1/6 of my German vocabulary ... I am proud to say that it is now 1/10! Bolzano was good prep for Austria and Germany because it is bilingual and had most signs in both German and Italian. Got to Innsbruck ... rainy and cold. Had to wear pants again ... nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!Pricing is odd here .. some things are quite cheap and some are quite pricey. Walked through the Alstadt (old town centre) - very cool. Almost like a time ... read more

Two nights and 6 hours of sleep into our our sleep-deprived trip and Cory "Corissimo", Paige "Pagmina" and me "Matais" are about to go on our first 'vacation'. So much has happened in such a short time that I can't even keep up on with my journal. But to sum it up ... the past two nights we've partied until about 4 or 5 in the morn then stumble to class (though I slept through class yesterday, oops) then take a quick nap and repeat. This whole 'class' thing is really getting in the way of our partying. No time to type, we've got a train to catch in 50 minutes. We're off to Frankfort for a day and then to Paris for the weekend. We don't really know how we're going to make it back ... read more

Before we left Munich for good and headed off in the direction of Vienna and Prague we wanted to get a trip into Innsbruck and the famous Neuschwanstein Castle, which was effectively in the other direction (well due south from Munich as opposed to East) so we decided to take a day trip. As you might recall from our recent blog, Vicki (aka The Navman Saleswoman) had been trying to persuade us to buy our very own male or female voice from the box that would effortlessly guide us along the remainder of our trip without any need for poor old Rach to have her head in the map whilst I am enjoying the scenery. Would we be convinced that Sat Nav was all she was making it out to be. Well we decided to take ... read more

Well all I can say is man it is georgeous here. Everywhere u look is mountains. Serious walk out of our hostel and we re surrounded. So as soon as me and Jordan got off the train we were like we are hiking that biatch. No guide no map just us and my compass. So we took off and finally found some trails. They dont go straight up but side to side. Along the way we saw everything from giant slugs to dark caves. Really cool. So after about 4 hours we were as high up the mountain as we could get without leaving the trail or taking a helicoptor or something ( about 1600m). So we saw this glacier up the mountain. No joke it looked so freaking close so we decided to hike it ... read more

Omg austria is the best place ever the mountains are so nice i wish everyone back home was here. So we got here after a 2 hour train ride saw these alps and we where like lets climb right to the summit lol well we got really close after about 4 hours of hiking from the hostel straight up the mountain we made it 2000 meters up about another 500 hundred at the most and we would have been at the top, but the air was getting really thin and it was pretty cold we were at cloud level and we figured gettin this high up and reaching snow was good enough considering the last 600 meters was about a 75 degree angle straight up the mountain. So we were really happy, we had a couple ... read more

We finally got of Rome with its hot humid weather and thousand year old buildings. On our last day we hit the Vatican galleries where I saw all those paintings you learn about in like middle schools humanities while they try and culture you up. The School of Athens, The Sistine Chapel, and The Last Judgement. All crazy, Michelangelo was a bad cat. Jack was showing me how the way The Last Judgement is layed out Mikey unintentionally made it look like a skull which is pretty sweet. The painting of God about touching Adam is way stunning in person, I thought I might be jaded since I have seen it in so many different contexts, but when you strain your neck up at that 90 degree angle and look at it it´s pretty damn incredible. ... read more

So today we woke up from our hostel in Munich and decided to take a day trip to Austria. We had to check out of the hostel, but left our stuff in the lockers there and headed for the train station. We had full intentions of finding a lake somewhere in Austria and just lay and relax all day. So we got on our swimsuits, boarded a train at 9:30 am and headed for Kitzbuhel, right between Innsbruck and Salzburg, I heard it was kind of a resort town. After 2 hours we made it to our connecting station and jumped off only to find snow and weather that looked like it might rain. Here we are in our shorts and swimsuits (Munich was more promising than this was) so we bagged the lake idea, and ... read more

Very eventful day. I will try my best to do this from memory, bit my totals will be way off. I woke up this morning as late as I could, but my eyes were not any better. They were watering all night long. Today is rafting, so I didn’t really bother getting too ready this morning. Breakfast was like everyday—just bread and jam. I discovered this morning that my Dramamine is gone. That’s bad! I couldn’t take any before our long ride out of Switzerland. I did get to sit in the front seat, but that meant the sun was in my eyes, which were already in enough pain. Switzerland was so perfect. I hope I can come back one day. It’s just so expensive, so it will have to be after I’m rich. I heard ... read more

We flew from Oslo to Salzburg, then took a train to Innsbruck (via Bavaria). The Alps are so close, feels like you can just touch them. We had difficulty finding our pension and after walking up a very steep hill with our packs and back down again we found that the pension has stopped dealing with our travel agent and had no booking for us. Again we had to spend a night in a dorm before going to our proper accommodation - hmmm, but that's what travelling is about. The Glokenhuis, where we stayed was built in 1550 and was used to make bells that were well renowned. The large exposed pine roofing timbers in our room were the original beams, and yes they still hurt just as much when we bumped our heads on them. ... read more
