We sailed to St. Lucia, picked up Donna's sister Debbie at the airport, and visited Pigeon Island in Rodney Bay. Pigeon Island is conserved by the St. Lucia National Trust. We walked to the top of both peaks on Pigeon Island. We went to Rainforest Sky rides and rode their gondola up to their zip lines. We went to the fish fest in Anse La Raye. On Friday nights they set up tables and stalls in this picturesque fishing village and serve fish, lambi, lobster, and plantains. There's an atmosphere of peace, goodwill and good seafood that is enjoyed by the locals and tourists. We're in Bequia now. We plan to spend June in the Grenadines. Our boat insurance carrier requires us to be south of 12 degrees, 40 minutes latitude before hurricane season starts on ... read more

Worms finer for fishing you couldn't be wishing; I delved them dismayed from the velvety sod; The rich loam upturning I gathered them squirming, big, fat, gleamy earthworms, all ripe for my rod. Robert Service In the morning if you get outside early enough you will see blackbirds pull wiggling pink worms from the grass before wolfing them down hungrily. The sea is also home to worms of all descriptions: long, short, fat, thin, hairy, spiky…, you could come up with pretty much any adjective and there are worms to meet the description. These worms rely on a body full of water to support themselves; they have no skeleton like you and me, but pump water around the body to keep themselves from collapsing into a mess of flesh and skin. When threatened they can burrow ... read more

What a spectacular view we had this morning. The ARC (Around the World Rally) started at noon today from here. We had front chairs. Had dinghies hanging on our boat had so many persons on board. Most we ever had. I even took a video, you know I call it putting the Sony to work. Great camera, I am so happy with this investment of a couple of years ago. Last night we were invited to Lone Star. We met them in Luperon last year, and sailed with them off and on through St Thomas. We played dominoes till 9 pm. Tonight were going back to teach them chicken foot. About 6 couples getting together almost every night. We also play Sequence and some other games. We all bring a pass a dish and our drinks. ... read more

We’ve been here 5 days and been pretty lazy - not that hard in the Almond Smugglers Cove 4 star all-inclusive resort. Apart from the beach, the pools, the cocktails and the great food, we have managed to get in some snorkelling, wakeboarding, sailing their Hobie-Cats and sea kayaking. We also got out to the weekly “Jump Up”, a reggae street party at Gross Islet, and down to Margot bay for a day out.... read more

Last night we went to Gros Islet. It is a little town about 1/4 mile from our dinghy. Went to public dock, we had very NONE lady landings!! Had to get on bow of dinghy, and then roll over best we could. One of our friends, Living the Dream, Ann, had put on a dress. Just too funny. Getting back in was a different story, now we had to jump down, I am so short, I landed on Dick's gas tank, he gave me ride. He has bigger dinghy and 18 hp. There was Jon from Non Linear, Jane and Dick from Cheetah II in this dinghy. In ours, Tom, Jeris and Pete. We cannot plan with 4 people in our dinghy, and I do not like a wet ride. So we been ferrying back and ... read more

We moved the boat 10 miles North. We are in Marigot Bay. Tried anchoring 3 times to no avail. Had to take a mooring for 65 EC for the night. It is a small village, mainly composed of restaurants and hotels. All prices in US dollars, very unusual. There is a Mooring's base here, huge!!! A lot of catamaran's. Very busy. Lot's of ARC regatta boats anchored here. ARC is a yearly regatta from the Canaries to St. Lucia. Next to us is "Story Teller", a 57' Beneteau, with 2 couples on board. They are from Australia. All I got for now. tomorrow plan is to go Rodney Bay, where we spent 2 weeks in early June.... read more

We are at the Deux Piton on a mooring. The marine ranger assigned us the mooring yesterday. The charge is 40 EC for 48 hours. This morning we went to Soufriere by dinghy, in open water, only us would do such thing, eh? We had to go check in with customs and immigration. Customs is on a corner as you come off the dinghy dock. They do all the paper work by hand. The charge was 25 EC. From there we walked to the police station to do immigration. No charge here, and we even got our passports stamped. But that's another story... Then we walked up 2 blocks to the grocery store. From there to the square, where a roman catholic church was in full view and had a children's mass for the parochial school. ... read more

We left Rodney Bay around 1050 for Catries by bus.Arriving around 1610. Long day. We found 4 cruise ships and 1 French navy ship docked in Castries. Actually the Queen Mary 2 was anchor outside, too long a ship to come in. We went all over, streets were crowded, too many cruise ships in, plus the locals trading, but oh what fun and what an experience. Dad decided yesterday morning he wanted to go, he did real well. Up to last 1/2 hour then he sat down. By ice cream shop. Since it was late in the day, products were cheaper and we did not start to shop for us until after 2. We got real bargains, and Heather, I bought me a new bracelet!! Tell Kandy I got her one too. Actually bought 7 of ... read more

I went on tour today with my teens. A “Biking and Waterfall Hike” that was far more wonderful that I’d expected or imagined. I’m on port manning this week (due to safety requirements, we have to stay onboard during port times on a rotating basis), so there hasn’t been any travel stories to share. But yesterday and today I switched around IDs (the process to be able to get off the ship). Yesterday I had to return to the doctor in Barbados for more follow-up work. It was a long, tiring and exhausting day. Today, because the teens signed up for the tour, work required me to get off - and I was happy to. We had a half hour ride in an open air safari jeep to the village of Anse La Raye. The drive ... read more
