Christmas in the sand! Wow this is so cool! or hot rather... We decided to spend Xmas day with the birds, hummingbirds that is . We call our Rastaman driver and headed to the hills to a bird sancturay. He was excited because he hadnt had a chance yet to bring any tourists there and had been wanting to go himself. We arrived at the old house and was greeted by the caretaker. The woman who had orginally trained the wild birds has since passed but the place is well cared for by this man and his family. We sat with tiny bottles of sugar water and fingers straight out for the perch and waited. Without so much as a peep a bird would land on you finger and start suckling from the bottle. There were ... read more

is now located on Sandals property of their Royal Caribean resort. As guests in the flagship property we had privledges to visit . Today we shuttled over to Sandals Royal Caribean to see Kokomo now called Sandals Cay. It sports a swim up bar, a jacuzzi and a parrot. It was quiet & serene so we took a walk , a dip , a drink and headed back to the mainland. There we tried a different water bike but it was so windy instead of heading to Cuba we opted for the kayak instead. The water was shallow and we got stuck for a few seconds here and there. At the resort we explored the property , watched the kayak race and had lunch and a game of checkers. An excursion in itself, it was still ... read more

Today we took an excursion with Raymond , our rasta driver, highly recomended by our friends. He entertained us by playing reggae videos and singing along all the while pointing out the sites on the tourist trail. Like the newest, Usain Bolt's grade school. Accomanied by a story about how he gave him a Puma shirt years ago. We stoped for a photo op at Rose Hall Plantation , checked out Discover Bay where Colombus first landed ( Yes Jamacia is yet another knotch in CC's belt, he's been everywhere!) commerated of course with a bar called Seavibes along with an obligatory sign and a glimpse into the daily Jamacian life : goats and cows feeding on the side of the road, a man selling fish on a string , shacks and tents selling barrel chicken ... read more

The title is an old Jamacian proverb that basically means little by little we get the job done. We have realized it wont be possible to blog from this resort but not to worry, with pen to pad I'll get the job done. Today we did everything there was to do here on the resort. We sailed a small sailboat, tried a wave cycle , kayaked the beachfront, took a snorkel trip and watched the fish and the coral from a glass bottomed boat. I even played a game of Bingo on the beach. Today we also met the rest of our Tripadvisor friends and arranged an excursion with our island experts driver/friend. We had dinner and the beach party with all sort of food including Jerk chicken, jerk pork and more jerk chicken. Tonight show ... read more

Ohh New York and her snowstorms . After 3 hours on the runway we finally set off on our 3 1/2 hour flight. The good news is I finally got to see what de-icing looks like. Basically they drive the plane into a hangar and a truck with a crane hanging off the top drives around the plane spraying green liquid on the wings. Woila! Now we go.... At the Sandals arrival lounge we were told Congratulations you have been upgraded! Our room for only one night was beach view with a patio. Needless to say it was not the basic accomodations that we booked, and the new room tomorow... well I guess we have to wait and see. We landed on the island in the sun and hit the beach. We quicly found one of ... read more

I must apologize for being so delinqiuent but you are having fun everything else seem so so trivial. I'm sipping on a mojito and swinging in a hammock while I write this blog with our free wireless access! We've been here for three days and already I feel right at home and dread the thought of ever going back. I must admit that this place has really blown us away. The hubby is off playing golf (not at the hotel about 5 mins away); the kids are off with the nanny and I have a Spa appointment in 2 hrs - life is good! So our nanny was much more than I thought she would be. Janice is so attentive, courteous and detailed. From the momenet she got those kids they have been hers every since, ... read more

Got up this morning, and showered. Reminded myself of all the things to miss the water pressure is not one of them. Paid off my debts, and sat down for breakfast. No fish this morning...it must be their gift to us. Enjoyed porridge. Took some photos with the staff at the guesthouse, and said our goodbyes. Waited outside for Rocky, who was 15 minutes late. Keith suggested that he might be late because he was getting us shakes. I laughed. We get into work, and have a meeting with our supervisor. Turns out we have a large final report that needs to be written in great detail -- we were not expecting this. So much for sneaking out of the office a little early today. Work non-stop all day on our final reports. Looks like I'll ... read more

Last night I was in Keiths room updating him about some things, when we heard some distant noises -- not quite gunshots -- but explosions of some sorts -- mid-sentance keith and I stand up and shout "FIREWORKS?!" We run outside and see them in the distance, we climb up onto the ledge of the roof-top patio and watch the Jamaican Independence Day Firework show. Apparently fireworks are the universal symbol of independence, or the global dependence on Chinas manfacturing industry. Either way, nothin brightens your spirits like explosions, sparks in the sky, loud noises, and distinctive clouds of residual smoke. For some strange reason my summer suddenly feels more complete. I fall asleep. Wake up and get ready for work. Fish for breakfast, and no fruit. As we are walking out the door to meet ... read more
