hey everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I got home safe and sound. Got checked out of the hotel around 1130 and then hung out in the lobby. Visited with a couple that I had met on the flight over and on the excursion I took. We went and got a bite to eat when the buffet opened at 1 and then onto the bus to the airport at 135. I think I napped a bit on the bus because it didn't seem like an hour trip. Got to the airport and checked in. Hit a few of the shops there and bought a couple little souveniers then up to the departure gate. had about 2 hours to wait so lots of time. met up with 3 ladies and we grabbed a drink and ... read more

Hey all Well it's overcast and cool this morning. Ok, well in the scheme of things I guess cool isn't really the truth (I'm still in a bathing suit and cover up right??) Hope things thaw out there before I come home tomorrow night. I'm sad that today is my last full day. But on the other hand I think I'm just about ready to get back home to my own stuff -- bed, routine, shower etc. I don't even want to think of how much weight I've put on here. The food is good and there is always lots of it. Hard to stop at just one. Same thing with the drinks. Dirty Monkeys rule!! I've met some super people this trip though and had lots of fun even if I haven't done much off ... read more

Hey all Well, last night was a BLAST. spent the day on the beach and at the pool again. Then off to get ready for my one and only excursion. Went on the "Dominican Rythyms" trip. Picked up at the lobby at 5 and onto a thatched roof/open bus. Started off with shots of rum and sprite (Santa Libre's) and went from there. Real party atmosphere We stopped at a gorgeous beach by Playa Grande (true clean soft sand great waves) Spent enough time there to be swarmed by the vendors and see the sunset. I got a pina coloda in coconut --YUM. Think I'm starting to like rum LOL From there we were off to see a "voodoo show" Interesting to say the least. I got a video of the whole trip so will share ... read more

Hola from Bahia wow, day 4 already. Today dawned clear and sunny with very little wind. A nice change :) HOpefully the ocean will be a bit calmer today. Then I will go wading a bit. Heading to the pool for a bit of sun again today (actually got a chair this morning). Tonight I am going on my Domincan Rythyms excursion. Bus travel (with drinks of course) then to a show and stopping at one of the bars for some dancing. Lots of Merengue here, and some bachata. love the music though and totally enjoying the shows here at the resort. Got on stage again last night for one :) Also meeting a lot of really nice people. One couple at the pool yesterday and then another couple, and 2 ladies when I was at ... read more

Only 15 mintues alloted each Weather was overcast most of yesterday but I did manange to get some sun. Today is clear so It should be a great day to relax on the beach. Ocean has been really rough and they aren't recommending swiming so I haven't done much more than stick my toes in. Did go in the pool though. Last night i caught the stage show. Very well done. They started with a kids portion then into the adult show. i even got up on stage to do a little salsa with one of the staff (yay) Ok, so here are a few of my pictures if I can get them. I first came to the Dominican Republic when I was- I think- 11 years old. My family from Denmark and from other places all came for Christmas. But instead of getting presents, we decided to give them. We collected all of our old give aways and we hauled them down here and we gave them to an orphanage. It was then that I realized that there were people less fortunate than me, and sense then... I have become much more appreciative. The look on the faces of the little orphans when we gave them presents (that were really dumb to me) but amazing for them... was a complete shock. We even liked it so much that my mom and step-dad decided that they were going to build a Villa to rent. So... a couple years later, ... read more

Our goal for this school to make it COMPLETELY green. Meaning we want to teach the kids how to use bio-gas, wind power, water power, solar power, etc. So yah, the thought is nice... but the action is not what we were expecting. There is A LOT of work to be done. We hit our first major road block when we got here and found a little school that we started helping out. We thought, hey yah this is awesome our first step into making this place a little better. Well... when we found the school it sounded like a really high end school "Bilingual, preschool-5th, private, etc" however, when we got there... it was bilingual-ish and preschool-5 sure but the kids were all misplaced (kids that were in 4th should have been in 2nd and ... read more

We boarded the 8am bus out of Santiago and on to Sosua. We liked Santiago with its big city allure and then not, a kind of big little city feel. The intention was to spend a few hours at Sosua and then gua-gua to Rio San Juan. When we disembarked after two hours, we were met by a taxi driver who attempted to hussle us away from Sosua and on to the ´touristy´areas of Puerto Plata and Cabarete. "Only Dominicanos, nothing to see here", he said. Shanna explained that we were headed to Rio San Juan and since Caribe Tours didn´t do that leg we would take a gua-gua. "No good. Must take 4 gua-guas. I take you drive around and then Rio San Juan for special price - seventeen dolares". We thought it was way ... read more
