Dear all, Can you believe it...we are now half way through our trip! We have spent the past six months travelling through Asia...Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. I love Asia and I am glad that we spent a good chunk of time here but I am now ready to move on. Also these are all countries that I have been lucky enough to visit before but in the next segment of travelling I am visiting plenty of new places. In about ten days we are heading to Palau in Micronesia and I am very excited about that! I think that things are going to get even more different and exotic! For anyone who hasn't been lucky enough to travel or is thinking about it..it really is an individual experience and it is hard to sum ... read more

Dear all, So we had been on Boracay for five days and we had walked/run 41miles up and down the famous White Beach...it was safe to say that we had seen the beach and that it was time to move on! We had also been lucky enough to join in with the Ati Atihan celebrations, although I still don't fully know what we were celebrating! We packed up our bags and 1 tricycle, 1 boat, 2 buses, 2 taxies, 1 plane and a truck later we arrived in Moalboal on Cebu. We checked into the room that I had booked only to find that it was about the size of a broom cupboard and that the free in room WIFI didn't actually exist!! But on the plus side it was clean and there were no bugs ... read more

Dear all, Its Friday and I am here in Boracay...the most famous white beach of the Philippines. I left my cosy room in Sabang on Monday morning and four days later I got here, with a few adventures along the way! Our first boat took us back to the mainland and it was an uneventful journey except that we saw dolphins..which is a great bonus. Then we got on our next ferry which would take us to Odiongan and would take ten hours. We quickly found our bunk, there was a bit of confusion as another Filipino man had a ticket with the same bunk on it, but we sorted it in the end. The boat set sail and we sat on our bunks and ate noodle pots...the only food available. Then we settled down for ... read more

Dear all, Christmas has been and gone already and tomorrow is New Years Eve! It is supposed to be the dry season here in the Philippines but at the moment the weather is all over the place and it is raining hard every day. It even rained all day on Christmas day. Boxing day was more of the same and it was that evening that we had an earthquake. Dan and I were playing Risk when the room began to shake. We were just debating whether we should head outside or get under the table when it stopped. The next day we found out that the centre of the quake was very near but thankfully it was only a 4.5. Since then we have had a couple of tiny after shocks...but its all quiet again now. ... read more

Dear all, Merry Christmas!! Its Christmas day and we have only been up a couple of hours as we had to go out for Christmas drinks last night. I got up and made a full English breakfast...or rather what I could manage on a two ring gas stove! Tonight I will probably cook a stew or something like that. Would you believe it..its raining! So no sitting on the beach today. Instead we have downloaded Monopoly to play on the laptop and we are drinking hot tea and eating chocolate. I am flicking through the TV channels but so far I haven't found any Christmas films to watch...how can it be Christmas without watching 'Towering Inferno' or 'The Wizard of Oz!?' Yesterday we went diving and saw a beautiful turtle, no diving today as the dive ... read more

Dear all, I am now here in Puerto Galera after a very interesting journey here! We set off from Subic Bay and took the bus to Manila. When we got to the bus station in Manila we found that the bus company that we were planning to use to get down to Batangas City had gone bust so we had to get a taxi to another bus station. Getting a taxi was very interesting as everyone who owned a car within a five hundred metre radius wanted to take us in their car or had a friend who would take us or wanted a tip for flagging us a taxi! But we finally got to the next bus station. Eventually we got to the right bus and three hours later we arrived at Batangas pier. It ... read more

Dear all, We are now three hours north of Manila in a place called Subic Bay and came here by bus on Thursday. We are staying in the city called Olongapo which is right next to an area called Subic Bay Free Zone. This is a strange area that used to be a naval base and now has a few hotels, restaurants and some duty free shops. The main reason to come here is for the wreck diving as there are about six big wrecks sitting just off of the coast. Having been here for four days we are ready to move on. I mentioned in my last blog that we had been offered diving work over Christmas on an island called Mactan. This seemed like a great offer but we needed to find a room ... read more

Dear all, Its been a while since I last wrote but I am now back in the real world! We spent a month on Gili Trawangan near Lombok and really enjoyed our time there. The diving was amazing and we made lots of new friends. We stayed in a lovely room and both felt quite sad to leave. Being on a paradise island was not without its own frustrations including lack of abilty to communicate with the rest of the world, frequent power cuts and lack of any medical facilities. I had a bad stomach bug and had to tell the doctor which antibiotics to give me! I am much better now. We left Gili T on a fast speed boat which took us straight to Bali. We stayed one night in Bali but both found ... read more

Dear all, Hard to believe that I have been on this beautiful island for nearly a month! I havent seen a car or a moped in a month...which is a good thing. However small islands do come with their own frustrations...but nothing too bad. I have now finished diving and am drying my kit ready for packing. We are taking the boat back to Bali on Saturday and will fly out of Bali on Sunday. First we fly back to Singapore and then on to Manilla in the Philippines. I am looking forward to seeing the Philippines again..and getting in the water again. I have been out of the water for the last few days as I have had a nasty stomach upset. I went to see the "doctor" tonight. I told him what was wrong ... read more
