The imminent rains have actually postponed this trip week by week. The blossoms have been dodging visitors like us for quite sometime now. Though the website informed that the blossoms are in full bloom last week of February, it rained last week. So, Saturday probably was the first 'sunny' day. The part where it became 'really' sunny is a different issue altogether though. We had briefly passed via Fresno on our way to Sequoia National Park some 3+ years ago on our maiden camping trip. So, I had practically forgotten the proximity of Fresno to The High Sierras. It was simply magnificent to see those huge mountains covered in snow from this far down the valley. The rains did not do much help to reduce the smog layer. I wouldn't blame. San Joaquin valley is so ... read more

When: Dec 25th - Dec 28th 2008 Where: Balboa Park, Downtown, Gaslamp quarter, Coronado parts of San Diego It's been a while since we traveled. We wanted to get out of our home for this vacation. But for a long time, we did not decide where. That makes it the least prepared trip for us. Usually, we have this plan laid out, like a month prior. I've read about so many people making unplanned trips that just involves taking the car & just drive. I've only imagined such trips as I am a planning freak. I need things to be in place. But the little one is such an adventure by herself. We knew we could rely on her for this trip, but how long can you strap a baby in the car seat? The trip ... read more

After a short hike with the little one yesterday, all we ever planned was to camp in a beach & relax. I've always loved the beach in Pacifica. It is close to civilization & that was needed. You can never be over-prepared with the little one. So, we just drove, parked, set up our tent(in a not-so-private beach), and R-E-L-A-X-E-D! I was not too happy with the fireworks photos. So, with an intention to sharpen my skills, I ventured to our frontyard. A short observation! People are interesting, specially if you don't know them _______________________ “Babies don't need a vacation but I still see them at the beach. When: July 4th Where: Foster city What: July 4th Fireworks At the 11th hour, we dropped our plans to witness the fireworks at Eureka, 300 miles from home. But we just could not miss seeing the fireworks. So, we gladly accepted a friend's invitation to view one of bay area's better fireworks(SF fireworks are the best, if you did not know) at Foster city. With the little one, we could not imagine wading through the SF human traffic. But the best part of Foster city fireworks was it was by the lagoon & there was boat traffic. We've never seen anything like that & it was pretty interesting to look at all the residents commuting by boat. In any case, in Foster city, residents dock their boat in their backyard ie., backwaters from the bay. Lucky ... read more

First outing with our little S. Traveling with a baby is not as easy as I'd thought. If I remember to take a million things, its possible to forget a zillion! However, we had the need. The need for travel. In all these years, somehow we'd successfully managed to miss going to Fort Point(The amateur photographer in me always wanted to get the angle of Golden Gate from there). A sunny weather in south bay forced a huge fog into SF. The day was pleasant, the weather awesome & the place-need you ask? To master SF's roads, you need to probably visit a couple hundred times. Every time I think I know part of it, I get lost in some other part Fort Point is this small(actually very huge from the inside) ruin-like structure just below ... read more

Where: Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, CA What: Pacific Orchid Expo A significant push from the better half made me wake up early Sunday morning to attend this show. The day was a warm 70F...warm enough in San Francisco. The day was clear & the skies were blue. What a day to spend in San Francisco!!! We planned to drive into town hoping to find one spot in the hundreds available in the Center. Alas! 11 am & we got to know the parking lot was "FULL" by 9.30 am. The next bet: a garage 2 blocks away, at Marina Middle School. There were free shuttles available to get to Fort Mason from there. Pretty well organized! An elderly neighbor in the shuttle generously handed a $2 off coupon per person. Much appreciated! So, we get ... read more

We had a really tiring Feb 18th. After that, the need to unwind rushed into the blood & with 3 days off from routine, we dashed to a place which we might not have thought of otherwise! 3 days in a resort among the Redwoods! Where: Avenue of the Giants, NorCal. When: 20th Feb - 23rd Feb 2008 Redcrest Resort is not the usual uptight "resort" community we'd expected. It is more like a rustic cabin without the Summer crowd. Guess, that made it worth it. Plus a functional kitchen. I got to learn ping pong from Ganesh. It is a fun place to go with kids/family! There is enough to keep you busy. When: 21st Dec 2007 - 1st Jan 2008 Where: CA, NV & AZ American southwest is always a personal favorite. So, when our last minute plans to FL shut down, we embraced ourselves to yet another trip to The Grand Canyon State. It was winter & theme for the vacation was going to be "Deserts". Well, AZ is all desert, you may say. But this trip was going to be desert all in all. We love the deserts! After convincing each other about a "relaxed" vacation, I got down to business. For people on the run, it is pretty difficult to space out each day. That being said, we did not do a lot; But that certainly does not mean we did not see a lot. American Southwest is huge & has a lot to offer ... read more

North America » United States » Nevada » Reno November 26th 2007

Thanksgiving vacation found us in Western Nevada. Why? There was nowhere else we could go. We'd pretty much covered every place we knew. But like anything unexpected, it turned out to be a great trip. So, here goes the details. 22nd - 24th November 2007 Having ditched off all rental car plans, we had to run our speed machine for a quick service. Thursday, Nov 22nd 2007 Plans to start at 6:00am got delayed by an hour. Finally, we called it "ALL PACKED" & headed N. 7 mi on hwy 237, 3 mi on hwy 880 & a lot more on I 680 later, we stopped for our breakfast in a rest area on I80 near Truckee. A bowl of soup & some stretching later, we were off towards Reno. It was hard not to notice ... read more
