well lets get the first things straight...la paz is absolutely miniging in every possible way- structure, lay out, ugliness, dirt...everything!!! luckily we were only there for a few days and made the most of our time so we would spent the least amount of time in the city...the hostel we were staying in had a tab system for drinks and food and for 5 days, 2 nights worth of drinking and the food we'd bought we freaked out when we heard the bolivianos being given in the hundreds...worked it out in pounds- 25 pounds in total..god bless the british sterling..there are [View Full Entry]

well because of our crash and then the inevitable delay it cause we had missed our connection to bolivia...this meant that we would ahve to make our own way there AND do the border crossings ourselves..now degrees we may have but common sense lacks!! well we used our brains and walke to the local bus station where we thought it would be a great idea to take a bus (the same size as a van) with 15 people in it the 3 hours it takes to get to the border...all for the shocking price of 1 british sterling..mind you i dont [View Full Entry]

so as we´re lazy and tight, we decided not to do the 4 day inca trek to machu picchu and got the train instead and instead of getting the train from cusco we got a bus to ollantaytambo (pronounced oi-yan-tan-tambo) say it quickly!!! and then got the train from there..im sure we were fooled into doing this but apparently we had to get the vistadome on they way..its the posh train like!! and its well worth doing..theres windows all over the train even on the ceiling so you can look up and they serve you tea (coca tea..ha ha) and sandwiches-they [View Full Entry]

so after a 12 hour bus journey of hell from quito to peurto lopez and the mosquito bites playing up, we eventually arrived into puerto lopez, which where you get into literally looks like a shack town with dirt roacd and motorbikes with seats on the back for taxis!! well we somehow managed to get the bible (lonely planet guide) out and resist the thousands of people who had come up to us offering asll sorts of ´amazing deals´ we managed to get to our hostel which was amazing...the had a great dane called scooby doo as well which made everything [View Full Entry]

so it turns out that i have a slight shopping problem...who knew this?? oh no silly question..but the floodgates opened in the markets and did not close until the end of the week...so i panicked abit when we went through our budget and i found that id spend 300 pesos over budget (cara had spent 200) the panic stopped when i worked out that that was only 65 squids...and thats on clothes, drinks, entry into the zoo, food and going out that we hadnt budgeted for...just as well we did this on the last day or i might have thought ´mmm [View Full Entry]

so the bus journey was actually amazing..although we didnt get off the bus for 17 hours, not great but we did have everything we needed in this box of luxury on wheels! we got served champagne and offered drinks to us the whole way down, as well as little eaties and we got dinner and breakfast the nexxt day, admitedly it was like airling for food..but as i love it i was a happy camper (maybe camper is not the right word when you´re sat in a first class bus though!!)the loos also got cleaned after every person used them, which [View Full Entry]
