We just had the most perfect, relaxing, enjoyable 5 days in Bali ever :) This was not a holiday for sightseeing, adventure or new experiences. This was a 5 day break, before the monotonous routine of work and school got back underway. On a recommendation from a friend we stayed at the Kumula Pantai hotel in Legian. It is a bit hidden away though, and is actually behind one of the restaurants along the beach so you dont even see it initally. But...it was suprisingly nice! Very bali'ish with marble everything, giant statues, winding gardens and dark wooden furniture. But all very clean with no mould in site and although i'd say set up in the '80's there was nothing wrong with it at all. It had 2 huge pools which we spent hours in every ... read more

We've just spent a lovely week up at Moore River for our annual pilgrimage. This year the river had not broken through to the ocean so it was a bit murky and quite full but there were plenty of fish in there for the kids to chase along the shallow banks. The Midgit had a fishing net which worked much better for toddlers attention spans than a 'real' fishing rod which is what he tried to use last year although we didnt actually catch any fish which is probably for the best as neither the Hubby or I really know how to fillet a fish ;) Saturday and Sundays are packed with kids which is lovely with all the banks of the river full of people and people hiring canoes and boats etc. I showed the ... read more

After the hectic bustle of Hong Kong we ventured over to one of our favourite destinations for some relaxation... and relaxation is what we had :) Turns out it takes approximatly 5 days these days for us to get bored of swimming and eating! We flew directly from HK to Phuket so decided to spend a night at Nai Yang beach which is right beside the airport. The Nai Yang Beach Resort picked us up at a whole AUD$6 and within 10 minutes we were in some of the nicest modern hotel rooms we've stayed in for a while. Nai Yang looked like quite a nice little village - there were heaps of cafes, restaraunts and bars along the beach, the beach looked pretty nice, chemists and shopping centres abound and no one constantly beratting you ... read more

We had 5 days in Hong Kong to meet up with my best friend, do some tourist stuff and importantly, head to Disneyland - wahoo! We stayed at the Grand Harbour in Kowloon in a suite and it was HUGE! Much better than any other hotel we've ever stayed in in HK with space for the kids to run around and a massive bed for us. The room had amazing views back towards HK Island and was immaculate in all possible ways. On the roof was a roof top pool with glass walls that was also pretty impressive to relax by in the very hot days that the kids loved. Probably the only problem was the hotel wasnt near a train station as such but they did have free shuttle buses to TST every 10 minutes ... read more

We just had a beautiful long weekend up at Coral Bay. We took the easy way out and flew the 2 hour journey rather than drive the 14 hour roadtrip. We've driven up to Coral Bay before and although I love our sunburnt country, there is a whole lot of nothing that wont keep toddlers entertained lol! I'll add a photo of the red dirt and scrub that lines the journey...although i did get some great views of Monkey Mia/Denham which is also wonderful to see. Coral Bay is a one street town that comes in off the main 'Great Northern Highway' and ends at the southern tip of the Bay. Nigaloo Reef is an amazing reef that is right on the beach! So... just wading around in the water when tide is in you have ... read more

This is a very toddler centric blog. I am nearly embarassed writing it and the fact that we didnt do anything that the exciting tourist destination of Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef should bring with it but we have been here heaps over the years and 'done' all that you can 'do' tourist wise so this was a family catch up and a relax and keep the kids happy trip. Which turns out, is extremely easy in toddler friendly Cairns :) My dad's health is not so good and when they said he was about to go on dialysis we decided it was time to venture to Cairns and visit. Turns out he is still doing pretty well and although they couldnt really drive after daylight hours they managed to handle the activeness of toddlers ... read more

Yanchep-Two Rocks is a strange place. Im not sure if it is a legend or a ghost town....although at least this trip there were people there. In the 1970's Yanchep was the dream of Alan Bond, a self made millionairre and legend to Perth who created a satellite city just out of Perth (about 60km). It had a huge marina that staged the Amercia's Cup yacht race, Atlantis marine park (similar to sea world but now just fenced off land), sun city golf course and club capricorn resort. But 25 years down the track it is seriously run down! The whole town could do with a lick of paint, fresh un-rusted stairs or rails, some weeding and possibly pull down all the weird statues laying around. We must have stayed there around 3 years ago in ... read more

We have just returned from another long weekend in paradise :) In fact it was really nice weather...about 30 degrees every day, some rain at night but none during the day, massive winds the first day but perfect blue skies for the last 4 days. We decided to try a different location and a different hotel... and we decided to upgrade a little as it was only 4 nights so we purchased a family suite at the Holiday Inn Tuban. And it was excellent! I really really enjoyed the hotel and found it the best i have stayed in on Bali. It was newish, clean and not too big. It didnt have the huge feel of the Jayakarta or the Dynasty or Melasti. I could say "meet you at the pool" and we would all be ... read more

I absolutly love Moore River. It is just over an hour (80km) North of Perth and you feel like you are a million miles from anywhere. There is one shop at the caravan park and one shop at the petrol station, no mobile phone coverage and absolutly nothing else to do but go to the beach, play on the river, play ball sports or hidey in the dark and RELAX! I love it. So we've just had our annual pilgrimage to Guilderton which is at the mouth of the Moore River. The caravan park is right on the mouth so no roads between it and the river and beach...beautiful, safe and easy to get to everything. It has that great feel where there are kids are everywhere playing cricket or british bulldogs and at night they ... read more

Hello from sunny Thailand! or not so sunny but thats ok, rain when its warm is all good :)) We've been here just over a week and we had probably 2 days of terrential downpour and the last few days have been beautiful and nearing 100% pool time. Our hotel that was too good to be true turned out too good to be true...doh! The Sunwing at Kamala beach was beautiful and pretty much 5 star but on the first day we arrived we went for a swim...hmmm nobody else there at all! Then we thought we'd get everyone ready and head out for dinner...walk up the beach 10 min one way, 10 min the other way...no restaurants open! So back to the resort and we eat by ourselves in the restaurant. The next day we ... read more
