Phuket Sept 2011

Hello from sunny Thailand! or not so sunny but thats ok, rain when its warm is all good 😊) We've been here just over a week and we had probably 2 days of terrential downpour and the last few days have been beautiful and nearing 100% pool time.

Our hotel that was too good to be true turned out too good to be true...doh! The Sunwing at Kamala beach was beautiful and pretty much 5 star but on the first day we arrived we went for a swim...hmmm nobody else there at all! Then we thought we'd get everyone ready and head out for dinner...walk up the beach 10 min one way, 10 min the other way...no restaurants open! So back to the resort and we eat by ourselves in the restaurant. The next day we went to patong and got some walk in prices to 3 hotels and booked into our old favourite...the Paton Merlin. There was people, cheap foods, lots of shopping, things to do...fantastic!

We went to Fantasea one night as we've never done it and it was certainly interesting. Sort of a surreal zoo with some exotic animals but had a very strange b-grade feel to it. Anyhoo...worth a visit if you havent been but certainly a super tourist thing and very odd. I have to add i just love thai food...there is no way i can get noodled out lol! The banana pancake trolley was also a huge win too 😊)

Also managed to catch up with my cousins who i havent seen for maybe 15 years and they live in Victoria. Great to see them and so glad theyve just gotten the travel bug....got to get them out of returning to the same place though 😊

Oh, some things i want to remember....the markets opposite the Holiday Inn also have very cheap bars with TV's and a few cafes if you head up the back of them. And the supermarket next to the Patong had a foodhall on the 3rd floor that is super cheap. Bad things are dont go in the last half of september as aussie football teams were arriving on their season trips and they were drunken yobbos 😞( And maybe Septembers weather isnt that good....August was better last year 😊
