Yanchep Beach
Beautiful pristine beaches Yanchep-Two Rocks is a strange place. Im not sure if it is a legend or a ghost town....although at least this trip there were people there. In the 1970's Yanchep was the dream of Alan Bond, a self made millionairre and legend to Perth who created a satellite city just out of Perth (about 60km). It had a huge marina that staged the Amercia's Cup yacht race, Atlantis marine park (similar to sea world but now just fenced off land), sun city golf course and club capricorn resort. But 25 years down the track it is seriously run down! The whole town could do with a lick of paint, fresh un-rusted stairs or rails, some weeding and possibly pull down all the weird statues laying around.
We must have stayed there around 3 years ago in a rented beach house and this time we stayed at Club Capricorn. I have been to Club Capricorn in Queensland (5 star) and although i knew Yancheps Club Capricorn wasnt going to be similar it wasnt even close. The choices at the 'Club' are camping and caravan bays, motel style rooms at 'the lodge' or chalets by the sea. We decided to go for
Chalets and as it is honestly the cheapest place i have ever found in WA we got a 3 bedroom chalet for $140 a night. The resort was actually not that bad...similar to the rest of yanchep it had the feel that 30 years ago this was a 5 star impressive resort with 3 tennis courts, 2 pools, basketball courts, minigolf, a little shop, huge acerage with beautiful lawns..... now just imagine that 25 years on without doing any maintenance or TLC 😊
The hubby and I were a bit shocked by the chalet. In fact i think he would have driven home if i had let him. The floors were cement, the paint flaking, the furniture old, mismatched and no cupboard doors on anything. But...it was actually very clean with minimal spiders and the beds were all comfy bunk beds, there was a toaster, kettle and fridge that worked, and the toilet and shower worked -thats all we need! So after we got used to the look of the place we didnt mind it 😊
The chalet we had was right next to the caravans which was excellent as our little ones played with all the other
kids every afternoon and we could relax with a beer and just watch 😊 The beach is absolutly pristine and the sand so yellow white it was wonderful. The beach at the resort was not very toddler friendly though with sand on about a 30 degree angle and waves breaking right on the beach...but if you could swim and get 5 m in just past the waves it was beautiful and blue with no seaweed or rocks out in the water. Otherwise there were kids on bikes everywhere and kids were very safe just wandering around playing with balls or playing chase etc. Yanchep is fairly lacking in cafes or shops - in fact there is one, but a new takeaway food place had opened up so we were able to get fish and chips one night which was nicer than the standard bbq.
So apart from the initial shock of our accomodation we actually had quite a relaxing time. The kids swam and played all weekend, we did heaps of walking up and down sand dunes and back and forth to the pool or the beach, but with minimal mobile coverage or lack of tv, it was really
a nice weekend away from everything.
