Hey everyone!
For those of you who don't know, I'm going on a little trip down to Peru for 3 weeks and then I'm off to Ecuador to volunteer on a biological reserve called La Hesperia, located in the cloud forest in the Andes. This is probably going to be my only form of communication with you guys, so feel free to leave me any messages! I'll try to reply back weekly (when I figure out how to work this thing ha). I'm leaving June 14 and coming back Aug 21. Wish me luck!!!

As you can guess from the title, I am nearly finished my time here in South America. Cant believe it. I´ve had such an amazingly fantastic time here, so in a way, im sad to leave, but im also grateful that its turned out so well. So, these last two weeks have been very eventful. Right, so starting off with last last week. On wed, the whole lot of us were assigned to clear the channel trail. Anyways, my previous experience on that particular trail told me that it was not the safest (your walking on the side of a mountain, with both the stream and the mountain on the left, and a steep drop on the right. the path that your walking on is man made and is actually quite sketchy). Anyways, so when Ceri ... read more

Hi everyone! I´m going to start this entry off on a very sad note. I just found out that my good friend, Natalie Gordon, passed away in a car accident on July 24, 2008. I am so sad that I could not attend the funeral or that I could not be there to support her family and our friends in this time. I´m sending out my condolences to everyone she loved and who loved her. Natalie, rest in peace, I love you and miss you so much and will never forget you!!!! Okay, so I´m not really feeling so great about writing this blog right now, but I´m gonna try. I´ve just finished my fourth week at the reserve, and I cannot believe how fast time has flew by! So much has happened in these ... read more

Hey eveyrone!Okay so I´ve been at the reserve now in Ecuador for about 2 weeks, and so far its going really great! We´re in Quito this weekend to see some more sites, and doing laundry and internet. Last weekend me and a few other volunteers went to mountain bike down Cotopaxi volcano/mountain. It was pretty insane, the top was fricken freezing and i dont think any of us were really prepared. It was blizzarding on the top, and the descent down was about 30 km. The very top was the hardest, cause we were frozen to the core, and the brakes on the bikes were a bit useless, cause you kinda gotta brake all the way down as to not fall off the mountain. ha. Anyways, hands were totally frozen, so it was a pretty freakish ... read more

Hey everyone! I´ve got about 2 weeks of recapping to do, so this might not be as detailed as I want it to be. So the night before we left for the lake, we met up with the rest of our tour group for the first time and had dinner and introductions and such. All together, including Klver (the guide) we were a group of 12, and it turned out to be a superb bunch of people. First there was Hilary and Steve- Hilary was sort of like my second mom to me while we were on the trail and supplied me with various drugs while i was sick, and Steve liked to harrass me (jokes haha) There was also Debra (sorry cant spell) and second steve- debra was a sweetheart and steve was hilarious. Then ... read more

Hey everyone! So, after Lima, we left at 4 am to go to Pisco by bus ( bout a 5 hour bus ride) to the bellestas islands, where we saw tons of birds (apparently there are about 60 types) and saw a couple of sea lions really up close. After that, we had lunch and then took another bus to Ica, where there are these huge sand dunes where we got to go sandboarding and ride these dune buggies. It was freakin amazing. The driver was awesome and dune buggies went freakishly fast- the whole time we were like ship ship ship (replace p with t) . After that we went sandboarding down these massive sand dunes. When we first saw the trainer guy go down we just looked at each other and burst out laughing ... read more

Hey everyone, so I just arrived in Lima couple nights ago-the flight was pretty good, no delays. Sorry for the crap update I only got half an hour on the internet...So Lima is pretty huge, theres bout 8 mill. The drivers are crazy and like to abuse their power by honking at every pedestrian who tries to cross the road- pedestrians definetely do not have the right of way over here but that makes for some interesting fun. The city is pretty nice, though kind of full of slums and apparently Peru is 80% below the poverty level, which is soo different from anywhere I´ve ever been, and is a bit more difficult to deal with than I thought it would be. Anyways, Lima is a city by the ocean side, which is really cool cause ... read more
