December flew by with the kids busy at Dunbeg school doing Xmas concerts, Xmas parties, Xmas discos. We were lucky to have Brads sister and family visit us for Xmas. It was the first time in 6 mths that the kids had been able to get excited about visitors. We had a lovely few days with them , the kids enjoying seeing their cousins . Once they departed it was all go, pack and clean for our Jan 1 departure. We left Oban on Jan 1 heading to Paris. After a 600km drive to Manchester we finally flew to Paris. Our apartment was quaint with its crooked creaky floors, smallest kitchen I have ever seen but was cosy and was so well located right in the heart of Montmartre with Pigalle and Absesses Metro both only ... read more

December 14th 2008

Another month has passed so thought it was time for another Eyre update. We have had another busy month with visits to both Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as taking in some sights close to home here in Oban. We began the month with a visit to The Glasgow Science Centre, it was a full on day with loads of interactive exhibits and hands on workshops. We visited Charles Rennie Mackintoshs “House for an Art Lover” which was beautiful and the kids enjoyed themselves in the “Art Space” playpark- a playground designed by artists. The following weekend we promised the kids they could stay at home ( as that is what they like best) however the sun was out and that means that you must also get out so we took the small 5 minute passenger ... read more

It has been over a month since our last entry and we have been busy trying to cram in as much sightseeing as we can around school and work. We have been up to Inverness, over to Stirling, across the water to the Isle of Mull and more. We have been rained on, hailed on, snowed on, blown away but finally this week the sun has been shining and we have seen the best that Oban has to offer. . We have learnt that when the sun is out , we must get out as well as you never know when it may return again. Today was exceptional Brad was out in the boat working on Loch Etive and even managed to get some Scottish sunburn. We headed to Inverness for the weekend at the beginning ... read more

October 1st 2008

Last weekend the male contingent of the Eyre family were very keen to test out the waves in Scotland. Hence a 2 and a half hour drive from Oban to Campbeltown , straight to “Breaks” surf shop to hire necessary wetsuits and boards before heading to Macrahanish. The golf course is located directly behind the sand dunes and you have to drive across the golf course (beware the golf balls) and along the beach (in a 2wd) to the surf. Macrahanish provided a nice 3 foot swell and a water temperature of 14 degrees meant a couple of hours were spent catching waves. Of course Emily & I were not brave ( or silly ) enough to test out the water but were very happy watching from the shore. This weekend we decided to head to ... read more

September 2nd 2008

The guide book said “this is why you have spent all that money to come to Greenland” and they were right. Ilulissat was magnificent. We arrived in Ilulissat (300 kms north of the Arctic Circle) on Monday 25th (Michelle's Birthday.) We celebrated with some Musk-ox for dinner followed by a “Greenlandic Coffee” - coffee with whiskey, Kahlua & Grand Marnier, topped with cream and set alight. Very Nice. Our first day we opted for the boat tour to the icefjord, the sky was grey , the wind was cold but the sights were amazing. Icebergs towering 50-100 metres out of the water. That afternoon the boys were desperate to collect some pieces of icebergs so we wandered to the shore where small pieces had drifted in close enough for them to pick up. Jake put a ... read more

August 22nd 2008

Our time in Nuuk is almost over so thought it was time to add some more pictures of our adventure to the Blog. Since I last wrote we have seen more icebergs, did an 8km hike, went on another boat trip to Kobbefjord, had an attempt at trout fishing and have eaten reindeer. We have enjoyed days of sunshine and blue skies, endured long days inside when it was too wet and windy to step foot out the door, and have spent more time getting ready to play out in the cold, than was actually spent outside. The kids were really hoping for snow, however that does not occur until mid autumn (October). I competed in the 10km run in the Nuuk Marathon, temperatures were a little chilly, the course was extremely hilly but I managed ... read more

July 26th 2008

We have survived our first 2 weeks in Greenland. The weather has been spectacular with blue skies and warm weather ( most days b/w 10-15 deg), we have had a couple of foggy mornings but these tend to clear by lunchtime leaving behind blue sky and sunshine. We have managed a fishing trip on the fjord where we caught Greenlandic Cod. Jake and Harrison both catching 14 fish each. Fishing here is much easier than at home, lower the line down, no bait required just a lure and multiple hooks and reel in 7 fish at a time. Brad and the boys did a hike up Lille Malene last weekend. They took the track that follows the winter ski lift up behind the airport. They were able to get a great view of the town. Whilst ... read more

July 15th 2008

The second leg of our trip took us to Iceland for a few days. We spent the first day recovering from our big flight and taking in the local sights of Reykajvik- doing a walking tour of the local area. The weather was great on first day - a shop assistant said that it was a very good day she was right as the last 2 days of our stay were wet and miserable but we still managed to cram in as much as we could. Our second day we headed for the "Golden Circle" which encompasses Geyser , Gulfoss and pingvellir national park. Geysir was amazing, waiting for the hot water to bubble and explode from the ground to an amazing 30 metres high. From there we headed to Gulfoss and saw an equally amazing ... read more

July 15th 2008

We have finally made it to Nuuk, Greenland. We just wanted to share some of the spectacular scenery we experienced on our flight from Iceland to Greenland. We only arrived 24 hrs ago and hence are just adjusting to our new surrounds. Jake & Harrison are happy as just outside the door are some rocks that they spent hours playing on yesterday. The weather is great today, blue sky, not too much wind ( more importantly no rain) and about 10 deg. I managed an early morning run this morning it was not as cold as I expected. We are getting used to the 24 hr sun as we also had it in Iceland. The view from our apartment ( right next door to the Institute where Brad is working ) is amazing. Will leave it ... read more

The first leg of our trip took us to Hong Kong. We had a great time, it took a while for the kids to get used to all the people and the weather was very hot & humid. We took the tram up to Victoria peak for a spectacular view of the city, visited Hong Kong Disneyland which was great fun and had a couple of trips to the markets. The boys also did some indoor rock climbing at the hotel.... read more
