Hello everyone! Sorry I've haven't wrote on here for a bit; I've been a little preoccupied with moving in my new flat ha ha! So I'm officially moved in and I have to say I'm incredibly happy. Everything is moving along nice and smoothly and I hope this luck continues through my stay here. I start my job tomorrow (eek!) and I'm a little nervous, but they say the job's quite easy so we shall see! My weekend was really fun and I'm getting a real taste of Irish culture. On Saturday we went to a hurling and Gaelic football match and it was super intense. They take their sports very seriously (obviously) and the stadium we went to, Croke Park, was huge. I think they said it can hold like 82,000 people?? Anyways, it definitely ... read more

Well everyone, I have excellent news and beautiful pictures to show you all! It's official....I have a job AND a place to live! I've totally lucked out and I am so excited that it's been a little over a week and I'm already getting settled in. I was hired by a recruitment company who sends temporary office workers to outside clients and I start next week at my first position; printing financial reports for AIB bank. I'm a little nervous, but can't wait to start taking in some cash! A Canadian girl who is leaving Ireland this week needed another renter for her roommates and it just so happened that I was looking for a place just as she was leaving. So I officially put down the deposit on the apartment today and I'll be moving ... read more

I've definitely been a busy bee this week so far and with good results! It was time to really start the job hunt in earnest and yesterday alone I must have handed out at least 20 resumes. I literally scoured the Northside of Dublin and went into every shop I could find. When you're homeless and jobless like me, you'll take what you can get! I definitely had a few promising discussions; however tourist season doesn't really kick off until another month or so, so we'll have to see where that leaves me. This new hostel I'm staying at is really great and their breakfast is ahmazing! I eat so much for breakfast I feel like a stuffed pig, so I get a delicious Irish breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, their funky wheaty toast and lots ... read more

Hi everyone! It's been a few days since I've had a chance to get on here; my first week has just been a flurry of activity! I had thought that my first few days would be purely looking for a place to live and jobs, but my fantastic German friends made sure that I still had to go explore the city and have some down time. We've thoroughly explored Temple Bar and I'm pretty sure I've been in almost every pub down there ha ha! Don't worry however; our main goal was to hunt down the best Irish bands in the city and we definitely found some pretty impressive ones. The Temple Bar plays some fantastic traditional Irish music and we went into this cool little pub called the Palace which was really fun. Yesterday, I ... read more

So, the past couple of days have been an absolute whirlwind and it all feels like it's somewhat of a dream! Am I really in Europe, attempting to live without a job or place to live? That would be a yes. However, I've been through my orientation at the SWAP office, so at least I have a good idea of what I'm in for and I have them for support. Step 1= become registered with ROI, step 2= apply for your pps number, step 3= fill out your 12A tax form etc. etc. ....it's all a little confusing, but so far I have steps 1-2 completed so I think I'm well on my way. I finally have roommates and surprisingly they're all German, except for a Quebec girl who just moved in today. We've quickly became ... read more

Well....all of the official trauma and difficulties are over (3 different airports and 2 planes) and I am lounging safely in my hostel in Dublin. I have to say, Heathrow is probably the coolest airport I've ever been to and it's incredibly user friendly with happy gigantic purple signs telling you where to go like every 2 feet. They also have buses that take you everywhere because it's so huge and it takes over 25 minutes to walk from one end of the terminal to the other. My poor Irish seatmates almost missed their flight since we didn't anticipate this lengthy walk, but luckily I made it through ok AND my luggage actually arrived on time! After squeaking in on my 23kg weight limit and having my pack be classified as oversized, I had no clue ... read more

Well, this is officially my first blog post on my journey to Dublin! Hopefully my family and friends will be able to read this periodically and keep up with my adventures (since they know how lackadaisical I can be with keeping in touch, sorry guys!). I just get too excited with so many things to see and do, I figured that this would be a good alternative. Since I'm hoping to stay in Ireland for the whole year, I promise to be diligent in keeping this blog and I send my love to everyone back home! I'm writing this from the terminal at Toronto Airport and it's just sunk in that I won't see this country again for an entire year. Even though my family will most likely visit me in the summer, it's hard to ... read more
