After our time in Jaipur we headed to the desert city of Jaisalmer. Immediately after leaving the train we definitely felt like we were in the desert. We got to our hotel, grabbed some food and setup our camel trek, which we would take the next morning. Next, we headed by train to Jaipur, our first stop in the state of Rajasthan. We didn't have many plans in Jaipur, just to enjoy the Holi festival, the celebration of summer arriving and also called the festival of colour! After 2 days of non-stop travel, Joe and I finally made it to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. We arrived at night and had plans to wake up before dawn to see the sun rise. Well, we slept in, of course. However, we did have the opportunity to have breakfast on the rooftop of our hotel with beautiful Taj views. We headed to the Taj Mahal soon after and were lucky that it wasn't too busy. When we woke up the next morning we were hoping for some news that would let us get back to Kathmandu and catch our flight to Delhi, which was the next day. Unfortunately the problem had gotten worse which left one local man dead and fifteen sent to seriously injured. This was not the news we were hoping for. We arrived in Chitwan later in the day so there wasn't much for us to do, so we went for a village walk and got familiar with the town and the people. The next day we woke up bright and early for our elephant trek through the jungle on the hopes that we will see some wild rhino. We were very fortunate to see a couple of them, and they are bigger and scarier up close then at the zoo. When we arrived in Kathmandu, we thought it would be a little less than India, such as the pace, the people, boy were we wrong. Everything was more. We had enough time to check in before one of the many power cycles in the city. The night before we left Palolem Beach, we decided to treat ourselves to an ayurvedic massage. Not really knowing much about it, we just ordered the full body massage, that focuses on our back, neck and legs, or so we thought. Joe started first while I ran to our hut to change into my bikini, when I came back, all I could see was Joe, lying on his front with his bare ass being massaged by a big fat Indian man and Joe's face of horror!!!! We came to Palolem, our first stop in Goa, with the plan of staying for a couple of days and then heading to north Goa to visit another beach. Well, we fell in love with Palolem and decided to stay! After we were dropped off at the train station in Alleppey we took about an hr train ride to Kochi where we would spend a night on a recommendation from a traveler we met along the way. The minute we got off of the train you could sense it was a wealthier than normal part of India, with traffic lights and a sense of order. Cochin has a heavy Portugese influence. Our first overnight train in India was something that I was looking forward to. There is something about traveling by train that adds a little romance on your journey. Sarah and I were able to get a 2 tier sleeper which will be a bunk bed for Sarah and I and two other people. We were somewhat lucky with the people we got compared to the many travel horror stories.
