Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona June 14th 2009

Got to Barcelona to find out we scored big time with the accomodation. Ended up with a brand new apartment (as big as our house) for 39 Euro a night...fantastic. First night we wandered down to the main street near our apartment to find some dinner. Found what looked like a dodgey little cafe and had an awesome meal of tapas and paella followed up with a couple of litres of Sangria all for a measly 30 Euro (after France that was a godsend to the wallet :-)) The next day we didnt feel like doing much so wandered up to the roof top pool area and layed in the sun and went for a swim for a coupleof hours, trying to bake the flu out of Bek...worked to an extent. After that we went down ... read more

We signed up for the St Tropez cruise on the Bus yesterday thinking it would be a good afternoon. Unfortunatley it turned into 2 1/2 hours on the bus from Nice to Port Grimaud (Frances' version of Venice) then we got onto the boat which took us around to Millionares Bay which is where the likes of the Heinekin family, Johnny Dep and The Hiltons have thier houses looking our over the water. We stopped in St Tropez for some dinner then hopped back on the boat and back to the bus. Then another 2 hours on the bus back to Nice. All in all it was good, the bus ride made it a bit shit (didnt really want to spend 4 1/2 hours on the bus but oh well). Wednesday we decided to go around ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice June 9th 2009

Got into Nice about 17:30 and headed down to the Hotel Acanthe to drop our stuff off then headed down to an Irish pub for dinner and trvia with the Busabout crew. Had a great night, the meals came on these massive plates that barely fit on the tiny little tables (there were a couple of plates to go flying before the night was out). Had a couple of hours of Happy Hour which made the drinks somewhat affordable (4.50 euro for a Long Island Iced Tea which Bek found out she liked). We had a crack at the Trivia although didnt win anything (our table came in 7th or 8th place, out of 25 we didnt think it was too bad). After the Irish Pub we went to a bar called Waynes Bar where everyone ... read more

Europe » Switzerland » South-West » Lauterbrunnen June 8th 2009

Had our first real dissapointment for the trip today....we had to leave Lauterbrunen. We left Bern for Lauterbrunen about 5:20 last night and the drive from Bern to Lauterbruunen was where the real pretty stuff started. All the travel brouchers and pictures you see of Switzerland, they come from here. As soon as we got into Jungfrau camping ground we dumped our bags at the little cabin we were assigned and headed for a trek up to one of the waterfalls. Absolutley amazing, breathtaking, picturesque yadda yadda yadda you get the point, hopefully some of my photos come close to doing it justice, although i doubt it very much. The only thing that ruined it was the drunk bogan on the bus from Bern to Jungfrau. No wonder Aussies get a bad name on the traveling ... read more

Europe » Switzerland » North-West » Berne June 7th 2009

We made a rather hurried dash from the hotel in Paris to the pickup point for the bus, I call bullshit on the 4km google maps said it was. We got there dead on 8am to find a big blue bus with no one around. At least we werent late. Jumped on the bus and made our way out of Paris through the crazy Parisian traffic. Was good once we hit the express way and started heading through the farms and stuff east of Paris. Quite pretty with the odd castle looking thing every half hour or so. Made it into Bern about 7ish, and hiked up through the town to the backpackers we were staying at. Hotel Glocke is in the old part of town with the cobblestone streets and old buildings and tonnes of ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris June 3rd 2009

Havent made up my mind about Paris yet...its very busy, crowded a lot of homeless people and beggers and a lot dirtier tahn i thought. But in sayuing that there was also a lot of good things. We did an aweful lot of walking and along the way experienced some wornderful pastries and a couple of good sites such as the Lourve, Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triumph and of course the Moulin Rouge. The Lourve would take a week to explore and take in all on its own. However since we only had the afternoon we just hit the big ones (Mona Lisa and the Venus De Milo) and wandered around some more of the hallways. Then we could see the Eiffel Tower and thought we could wander over.....two hours later we could still see ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris June 2nd 2009

today started off with a bit more of a sleep in thank goodness.. then we had to pack up all the stuff and start for our first big relocation after an hour or so of rearringing and re arranging again we got the bags closed but then we had to carry them. found a nice little cafe for breakfast and then headed for the tube. The tube is one of the maddest forms of travel i have ever taken but we got to st pancras in one piece although john did nearly lose his backpack in the train doors. then it was time to take off the backpacks and have a coffee. the eurostar left on time at 12.29pm quite a nice ride. there are a few tunnels with no indication that you have hit france ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » Westminster June 1st 2009

Decided to try and take in a bunch of the sites of London today. Woke up about 4am (goddam jetlag) so thought we could get an early start. Made our way through Hyde park about 6am, surprisingly there were a WHOLE bunch of freaks jogging and walking their dogs through the park at that hour. We made our way down to Bunkingham Palace, past St James park then down to Big Ben/Parliment house, across Westminster Bridge then over to the London eye, unfortunaley this was all before 8am so nothing was open, so we spent the next hour looking for somewhere for Breakfast. Finally found a cheap place (at least it was open) on York st where we managed to get some brekky then headed off for the day. We went up on the London Eye, ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » Piccadilly May 31st 2009

Well we had a bit of a stressful morning getting everything finalised but we eventually got to the airport. Jo, Rob and Bathy saw us off and we had a drink, then it was a little tearful goodbye and we headed up to the lounge. When it was time to board we went outside to join the queue, and to our surprise there was our neighbours (from Number 8) who were off to Singapore for a holiday. Perth is a small place isnt it. Flight from Perth - Singapore was ok, Bek didnt feel too crash hot but we managed to hit Singapore without too many dramas. Bek was mesmerised by all of the glittery shops in Singapore :-P and was quite happy to see the purple gold, however not so happy when she saw the ... read more
