Hey Folks ! Just booked ourselves onto a "Mini Safari" at a game reserve near Plettenberg Bay to see the Big 5 (Lions, Giraffes, Rhinos, Elephants and some other beast I can't remember). Will update this entry with some photos, as I see some of you are eager to see something of over here. Enjoy the day and keep eye out for an updated entry at some point today or early tomorrow...... Neil x [View Full Entry]

Hi Everyone Been a while since I've had the time to sit down and add an entry, been so busy seeing things and getting up to no good. Was at a casino on Sunday night and I won R700 which was great, I was the only winner out of crowd, was nice to rub it on on those who lost a bit, nah nah nah nah nah (Blows a Rasp!). Rest of this week and been hectic, been to several beaches along the coastline, been to play with the monkeys at MonkeyLand and had a very friendly parrot on my shoulder [View Full Entry]

Bit of a lazy day - we drove to Nature’s Valley - a small local beach set at the bottom of the mountains - could have stayed here for hours. We then took a drive towards Plettenburg Bay and had a walk along Arch Rock Beach in the scorching heat. This is the life - there are so many stunning houses around this area - it would be quite nice to own a wee holiday home here (in our dreams) [View Full Entry]

Would you believe we’ve been here over a week already. Drove to Port Elizabeth to pick up Joyce and Rob (Neil’s other Aunt and Uncle) who will be staying with us for the next week. Decided to take a chance at the airport and ask for the car to be changed. Thinking that at the small local airport there wouldn’t be a great choice of cars (and on the hope for an upgrade) they managed to find a car for us - another lovely luminous green Nissan Tiida. I’m sure it’s a symbol of bad luck as no-one ever seems to [View Full Entry]

Moving on again - this time along the Garden Route to Storms River, where we will be staying for the next few days. Had a bit of a disaster along the way - the tyre blew out on the car around 2 miles from Neil’s Aunt’s house - we had to unload the entire contents of the boot on to the hard shoulder of the N2 motorway and change the wheel . Arrived at Ken and Corrie’s very greasy and grubby and bedraggled. We’re staying in one of their cottages. Storms River is a real eye opener - its a very [View Full Entry]

Had a lazy day around Mossel Bay. Visited the local museum complex which is based around the visit of Bartholomew Dias - a Portuguese explorer who found the area in the 1490’s - I’m sure its changed a bit since he was here. We toured a replica of the boat he sailed on - it seemed tiny compared to the journey he must have made. Visited a couple of small beaches in the area which seems very industrial and not very holiday-like. [View Full Entry]

Drove to Arniston beach - around 50 miles from Swellendam and then on to Cape Aghulas, the most southerly point of the African Continent. It’s also here that the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. It’s hard to believe that looking out here that the next stop would be the Antarctic. Many photos to bore you all with when we get back [View Full Entry]

- Weather is changing here for the worse - very misty and heavy rain when we left the hotel. Picked up the hire car at Cape Town Airport - first experience of driving on South African roads went extremely well, considering the rental company gave us a luminous green Nissan Tiida. We drove through a small bit of the Cape Winelands and also through Elgin, which I just had to see to compare it to the one back home. Arrived in Swellendam in the Langeberg Mountains in one piece. Staying here for two nights in a very luxurious cottage in [View Full Entry]

Cape Town
Cape Town
The view from Table Mountain
Hey Everyone ! We've arrived in Cape Town, South Africa after a lengthly flight, the hot shower that followed was very much appreciated ! Well we've had some difficulties with the hotel's internet access, so apologies for all to those who were expecting an update sooner than today, all sorted now obviously. Spent the last 3 days wandering around the City and V & A Waterfront complex, both Alan and I have the usual "UK Tan" or in other words sunburn ! Right enough of making you jelous and my pint is getting a little warm in this heat, so we're [View Full Entry]
