Zagreb to Split Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Split
The first task of the day in Zagreb was to extract some money from a cashpoint, so we headed off from the youth hostel in the direction of some local shops! This was no more than a 5 minute walk which took us through typical east european housing blocks. One quite understood during the war how easily the people living here were picked out and targeted by snipers. Although we appreciate it maybe less of the case here than in Sarajevo, it does bring it home to you. So after our first attempt of getting some money out and failing on [View Full Entry]

Hokey cokey here we go again. Firstly if you start getting z's where y's should be - my apologies as they are in different places on this keyboard, and for a touch typist that's not so good!!! So we left Gloucester and headed down to Dover and caught the 6.00pmish crossing. Nothing eventful to report on that front at all! We headed up the coast toward Oostende and then basically turned right and headed towards Dortmund. David took on the driving to start with whilst I navigated which wasn't overlz difficult!!! On making our right turn towards Dortmund we started to [View Full Entry]

hello to good old wet and cold england!!! We're back safe and sound despite the weathers best attempts to stop us!!!! The bus journey back was not particularly eventful. Only a few stops by venezuelan guards and the colombian border check was straight forward!!! We had a day in Caracas sightseeing and experienced absolutley no problems whatsoever. We ventured on the subway and had a good old walk around! We met a 73 year old Japanese guy who answers to the name of Nobu and shared a taxi to the airport saving us all money and worked out really well. Turns [View Full Entry]

Welcome to a hot hot hot and sultry Cartagena. We have now seen practically everything and depart tomorrow so as we have a complete day of leisure before hitting a 22hr bus journey I thought Iīd update now!! This is a knockout place. We are in the old town and every building is colonial. The colours of the buildings are every one conceivable. Orange next to blue next to bright green and red - the cameras are working overtime. Some buildings are under restoration and are being worked on with very precarious wooden scaffolding which really only consists of a few [View Full Entry]

Ok so to finish of BA, all we can say is what a fantastic and amazing city this is. If you have ever wanted to come here, you must. The architecture is stunning, the people amazing and the place is just alive. There is a poor side to the place but then isnt there anywhere in the world?? The city is noisy the high buildings trap the noise and when a bus goes past you have to give up talking because you canīt be heard. The pavements are broken up in places but the city is clean. At night the recylclers [View Full Entry]

Well hello from Buenos Aires - guess what??? Its raining - hee hee!!!! Sorry to say though it is still 20 degrees plus and we are still in shorts and t-shirts! However it is raining that hard that we have retreated to an internet cafe and we can update all our emails etc etc!! So let us begin from Mendoza in the north of Argentina. We arrived in the early morning and hopped into the centre of town. It has wide open avenues that are all completley tree lined. Mendoza was flattened by an earthquake back around 1869, so the architects [View Full Entry]

We caught the overnight bus to Copiapo which despite all my best efforts of retaining the blanket and telling David that no one else was giving their blankets back we finally got kicked off the bus at Copiapo at 7.00am!!!! We decided to stay here 2 nights as our recovery process involved at least a day on the beach at nearby Bahia Inglesia! On booking our tickets we discovered a hypermarket!!! Such simple pleasures we couldnt resist having a walking round!!!! We were like children in a sweetshop!!! Airconditiong, fresh fruit, bread - oh the world was our oyster!!! We had [View Full Entry]
