Typical, 15 minutes outside Prague it was white all the way to Bratislava/Vienna. Painless bus trip and apart from the ugly nylon coats and large shoulder padded 80's coats that the people wear Bratislava was lovely. Went ice skating again, it would have been better if teenage boys that skate well weren't there. I can't imagine what they get out of skating on such a tiny rink with so many beginners. They tripped up the beginners much more than than anyone. Perhaps that's what they get out of it. That's about it really. [View Full Entry]

We went to Karlova Most at 23:30 to check out the fireworks after an evening of bad New Year's Eve TV and we actually got to be right there in the thick of things without even trying. It was exciting, I actually really enjoyed fireworks for the first time in my life and although they were going off all around me and louder than ever I wasn't as jumpy as I usually am. Akira and I went ice skating today. We've been telling Akira he should try it for ages and he finally got up the nerve. He thought it would be really difficult but he's finally discovered it's not and he likes it. I think tomorrow is the last day that it is there so he wants to go again. Ned and I have booked our flight to Barcelona for Jan 10. It's nice to have something sorted out. It's only costing us €126.50 for both of us to go there so that's cheaper than flying from Brisbane to Sydney. We've also organised our accommodation for 2 weeks in Tokyo so we're all set. We went to see a castle today that the lonely planet said was a bit too Disney. Because of that it was low on my list of places to visit but I'm glad we went because we had a great day. The castle and the town was nicer than I expected and it wasn't crowded at all. It obviously gets very crowded at times, judging by all the (often closed) touristy restaurants and souvenir shops but we managed to find a really cosy cheap restaurant that had great food. I spent a lot of time today planning what we're going to do next. It's very frustrating because we want to avoid nights away as much as possible and Prague being in such a central location is good for day trips and overnighters but unfortunately the bus schedules aren't cooperating. It was a bit of a dull day today. It didn't start off very well, I went out to buy us a lovely breakfast and nothing was open. I thought it was supposed to be open today and closed yesterday but it was the opposite so we had nothing much to eat all day. Fortunately a minimart was open so we didn't starve. Akira and I went out for dinner tonight; after walking for an hour trying to find somewhere that wasn't too expensive we ended up going to the place in our building.
