Trip to Flora Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
We went to Vinohrady again to eat, see the baby TV tower and shop at Flora. We found a Christmas present for Leon, a pack of Mucha playing cards and some dice for Yahtzee. We need lots of games to play without Akira's computer. [View Full Entry]

Lost Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
I went with Akira to take his computer to get fixed. He didn't ask how long it would take or tell them it was urgent so hopefully it won't take too long. He's completely lost without it, perhaps I can get him out of the apartment a bit easier now. He had to go with me to buy some games to play. [View Full Entry]

Cheap Feed Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
J and I went to Vinohrady because I've come across recommendations for various things there. I don't think it was at it's best due to lots of things being closed but we did run into a very nice cafe. We ate ourselves silly for about $17, the waitress was friendly and they had an English menu. We'll definitely go there again. [View Full Entry]

I did mean to take a picture of the Christmas market that started today but the crowds were unbelievable and we forgot to take the camera. We discovered a whole new and beautiful area that although very close to the supermarket we found on day one we hadn't seen. The start of Christmas season is a bit exciting and the lights are beautiful and not too tacky. This will be my first Christmas in Europe, up until now I'd been here in Summer, hopefully it will be white. [View Full Entry]

Down by the River Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
We all got out reasonably early and had a really great walk down the river to Vyšehrad which is one of two castles in Prague. The weather was sunny so we took lots of pictures of ducks, swans, buildings and statues. I got a lap full of hot chocolate at a famous Art Deco cafe and we went for another sightseeing tram ride. Apart from the chocolate incident it was an excellent day, enjoyed by all. [View Full Entry]

Tram adventure Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
I left Janette and Akira at home today and explored by myself. I went tram hopping and found a few interesting places. It's a very efficient and cheap way to see Prague. I found a second hand shop and bought a sugar bowl, we really need one here. I discovered a few places with great views of the city but I couldn't get my camera out quick enough to get a picture. I've no idea what the place in the photo is but it had a very nice hobbitty roof. [View Full Entry]

All Synagogued Out Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
We went to the Jewish Museum today. The old cemetery was just beautiful and the gallery of kids' drawings was very moving, especially when you know that very few of them escaped the holocaust. Prague used to have a huge Jewish community and now there are hardly any but there are still plenty of synagogues. [View Full Entry]

Snow Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
It snowed for the first time since we've been here today. I imagine I'll be sick of snow before too long but at the moment it's wonderful and it makes me feel happy. Janette and I found finally found Tescos and it's actually much closer (and better) than the other supermarket. Akira and I tackled the very efficient public transport system today. We were looking for the Apple Service Centre but it closed 10 minutes before we got there. At least now we know where it is. I finally paid for our accommodation in full so that's our biggest expense out [View Full Entry]

Met someone new today Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
Her name is Iris and she's from Berlin and working here for a few weeks. She replied to a message I had in the Hospitality Club forum. I wish I'd taken a photo of the interior of the hotel where we had coffee and cakes, it was really lovely. It was nice to have a proper conversation with someone else. She's here until Thursday so I invited her for dinner on Tuesday night. We went only slightly further afield today... we're taking things very slowly. Akira got a sim card for his phone so we should be a bit easier to [View Full Entry]

Election watch Europe » Czech Republic » Prague
I can't sleep this morning thinking of the possibility of Howard being re-elected. I imagine the elections will dominate today's events. *** It's now midday and we now know that Rudd has won, the Greens have done well and it even looks as though Maxine has won Howard's seat. It's fantastic newsl; I only wish we could find other people to celebrate with. Our apartment website [View Full Entry]
