I feel so blessed to have been on this trip/adventure and to have captured so many pictures that remind me of all that we did. Sawadi, meaning hello or goodbye, is likely to be the first Thai word you pick up during your travels to Thailand. Ladies add a ka to the greeting, pronounced with a soft and lingering tone to express their femininty. Men add krab, spoken with a deep and resonant tone to emphasise their masculinity. Thai people do not say good morning, good evening or good night. They greet each other with a wai, which is a prayer-like gesture with palms raised. It is customary for the younger or lower in status to begin the greeting. There are various levels of wai: the deeper the wai the more respect is conveyed. When Thais ... read more

I have so many pictures here are a few of my favorites Saffron-clad Monks Little Angels is the real-life stories of the novice monks and reflects the lives of many youths in Thailand who are trapped in the vicious cycle of poverty, broken homes, illiteracy and drug abuse. When all else fails, Buddhism becomes their last resort: providing them with physical shelter and spiritual refuge. It heals their childhood traumas and gives them a moral framework for living and a better outlook on life. Written by Phra Peter Pannapadipo Becoming a MONK Then I saw them starting to walk clockwise around the chapel. I stood there and tried to work out what were they doing. Then I saw a man with no hair or eyebrows wearing white clothes walking in the middle of the line. Then ... read more

What you hear when in silence Crickets in the early morning, birds in the morning and afternoon, toads and geekos in the evening People brushing teeth, washing clothes, showering, sweeping, scrubbing and opening and closing doors What you see 100 people moving in many directions very slowly. No talking and very little eye contact although that increased each day. There are many things getting done without words but with cooperation, attention and loving kindness. We are all giving each other space and it looks and feels very peaceful. I found that I was able to walk as slowly as the person in front of me or even slower and with attention. Food in Thailand and Cambodia ...... FOOD in Thailand and Cambodia Meals are often prepared ahead of time and often set outside out way before mealtime. I believe this is due to the fact that many main dishes are served at each meal making it difficult to complete the preparation at the same time. BREAKFAST of just another side dish? I offered to buy the supplies and make breakfast for everyone. I bought potatoes, eggs, cilantro, onions and tomatoes and bread. Seemed like a meal to me. I was up early to begin chopping the food and found several of the guys in the kitchen also. We prepared breakfast, put it in the cabinet, had mass and then ate. As you can see there are many dishes and my breakfast became just another side dish. The ... read more

Borey is very outgoing and visited with staff from LICADO (a Cambodian and Canadian NGO) while they were staying at the hotel. Below are pictures of all the English classes going on in Cambodia The Challenge - Why Educate Cambodia? Cambodia's decades of war have also had a major impact on the country's educational system. During the Khmer Rouge regime, teachers and educated role models were killed, schools were destroyed and books were burned. Although new teachers have been trained and schools have been rebuilt, there continue to be a myriad of obstacles that challenge the country's ability to provide access to quality education:  A shortage of schools and classrooms, particularly in rural areas, limit the number of children who have access to basic education. Although most Cambodian villages have a primary school, many schools are still incomplete, meaning they do not offer a full grade 1-6 curriculum. Getting to a school where students can complete upper ... read more
