I really debated what I wanted to do today - yesterday was… another tiring day, wasn’t it… so I debated between hiking in Broadford or trying my luck and bussing out to Old Man Storr. I decided I wanted a travel-free/bus-free day haha. It was pouring rain this morning, but in true Scottish fashion it tapered off to a mist by around 9:30am. I tried my luck and headed off to Broadford Bay and walked up along the coast towards Irishman’s Point. Even though it wasn’t raining anymore, I still got soaked - I was walking through grass paths and fields so all the water from the overgrown plants was drenching my legs and my shoes. My hiking boots may be water resistant but after an hour and a half in a field my toes were ... read more

Ok NationalRail, I don’t quite know why you choose to hurt me like this, but considering I’ve never had problems before this trip, I’ll chalk it up to chance and will trust I will have no more issues. Deal? Deal. I took the train from Thurso to Kyle of Lochalsh (Isle of Skye) and I got on my train alright… I just didn’t have my ticket lol. When you buy online you have to collect at the train station and 99% of the time there is a machine outside or on the platform, otherwise you have to collect in the station itself. With my train luck this trip there were no machines at all and the station opens at 9h45... but my train was at 8h39. Of course. Thankfully the ticket collector on the train was ... read more

I angered the Scottish weather gods when I mocked their misty rain yesterday. I angered them big time lol. I headed up to John O'Groats today - the most north-eastern tip of the UK mainland. It's common to do the trek from here to Land's End in the south-west, crossing the full length of the UK. I figured I was up here, so it's def worth the journey. The bus ride was rather lovely - as you could guess, I saw mainly sheep mixed in with the occasional lone house. I debated going to Dunnet Head which is the most northern part of the mainland but it was a 2.5 hike and busses come only every 2 hours... so... I didn't fancy waiting almost 2 hours in the middle of a field when it's raining. Ok ... read more

Oh it felt nice to sleep in today. Scratch that - it felt nice just to sleep! The day started sunny, but in true Scottish fashion (especially in the Highlands) that soon changed and it misted for most of the day. Oh mist - I wish it would proper rain if it’s going to do that… it’s horrible for the camera though. I walked from Thurso up to Scrabster - along the beach, the coastline and then up in hills because I had no idea where I was going, so, the normal hiking day for me. I couldn’t help but wonder while overlooking the beach if anyone ever gets to enjoy the beach. It’s end of June here, and it’s only 15 degrees today. But a damp 15 degrees, of course... curious if in July/August they ... read more

My life omg… my life hahahaha. Today was one of those days that tested my patience but also turned into a very people friendly day. As we’ve well established in my journeys, I don’t have to seek out conversations - they always find their way to me. (Sorry it's quite long... it was a long day.) Ok, so first off at Holyhead I had a long wait for my train… and I made myself a new friend. His name was Keith. Keith was a little drunk. And by a little drunk… I mean a lot drunk. Like smelled worse than a brewery drunk. He was a friendly drunk at least… it was like conversing with a 5 year old. Here are a few snippets of our interaction: (*sitting and staring at me for a good 5 ... read more

Dublin has such a cool vibe to it. I’m glad I decided to fly back here to start my journey. I had the full day before the ferry over to Wales, so I decided to do the “free” walking tour. I’m not quite sure why I hadn’t done it before here… I tend to do them wherever they’re offered. Anyway, time and money well spent - our guide was brilliant, he had so much detail in his history and wonderful anecdotes and kept getting sidetracked - it was a thing of beauty. (Sidenote: he also kept making fun of other tourists for doing things as he’d see them and it shouldn’t have been funny, but it was.) The tour brought us through the usual Dublin sights I suppose - the Castle, the Cathedral, Temple Bar, Trinity ... read more

Alright, so begins another adventure! I’m half asleep while writing this - I have come to the realization that pulling proper all-nighters is (ok, should be) a thing of the past lol… I am getting irritable with age ;) I had a weird travel path this time ‘round: Toronto/Copenhagen/Dublin, but that ended nicely since I was left with a super long layover to explore Copenhagen for a bit. I really liked the city - gorgeous buildings and the history is just everywhere. Of course I had planned a few things I wanted to see, but in usual fashion I jumped off the metro on a whim and just roamed around aimlessly - the best way to get introduced to a city that is. Roaming, roaming, roaming. My fav thing I happened upon was the #HappyWall. It’s ... read more

Alright, quick entry today - it was another travel day as I bussed back to London. Of course it was uncharacteristically hot and humid in both Paris and London... go figure. I almost melted into the sidewalk with all my bags in Paris, and then in London the same but in the Tube. They need better ventilation... there is nothing worse than a muggy Tube at rush hour. Ok, ok sorry. Weather updates aren't fun haha. Back to the drive! Megabus has awesome drivers here - they've all been nice and funny. This one was particularly amusing on the PA at the start of the drive. When he did his ramble about the rules of the coach and such he basically just made bad joke after bad joke... we actually clapped when he finished. He was ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France July 31st 2013

So, to celebrate the beginning of my career and I guess being officially an adult now, I went to Disney haha. It's really fun seeing the similarities and differences between the Disney parks. The layouts are all essentially the same, with the same rides, but some of the rides are tweaked and different characters are to be found, stuff like that. And the shows are different. That being said, my goal today was pretty much find the differences so I could experience them and go see the shows :) I got there before opening which was good because I got to roam around a bit and take photos (and listen to the awesome music because it's all Disney songs.) They had a food area that was Jungle Book themed and they were playing the elephant march ... read more

I forgot how much I don't like big tourist cities at the end of July/early August. It seems everyone else is in them with you. I had wanted to do two things today - neither which I did haha. Oh well, still a good day. I was going to do the Catacombs but at 9h45 there was already an hour and a half wait (opens at 10h). Me, being silly, thought I would come back later. (Here's a hint - the line didn't get shorter). When I came back at 14h45 they told me not to bother lining up because last entry is 16h and I won't make it in. Awesome. Put that on the "next time" list. I headed over to Notre Dame because last time I was here I didn't go up in the ... read more
