We're continuing northward. We're 3 or 4 days from Bodo! We had a wonderful 2 days of flat riding with sun and no rain, but now we've had a couple of days in the high 40's with rain and head winds combined with steep long climbs, 9% for 5km's. The down hills should be fun but with cold rain driving into the face it's more just hanging on. But when the rain stops and the sun lights up the mountains it's just fantastic! And of course adding to the challenge, today we went through 2 tunnels that were 3 Kim's long and one of them was unlighted. The weather should turn in the next day or so. We're seeing more and more touring cyclists now, most heading south. Some interesting characters. I'd say at least half ... read more

Three great days of riding before we've again run into intermittent rain and drizzle. We're also starting to see others tourers. Most are from the Netherlands, but we've seen 1 Frenchman and a girl from Canada riding with a guy from New Zealand. Most interesting though was a woman towing a caravan. We met at a campground and we had a great discussion over a beer. She's riding an ebike and is an author. Ten years writing children's books and is now writing novels. Now that it's July, the campgrounds are quite busy and the basic cabins are all booked, so we're back in the tent!... read more

Left a beautiful campground, Ronningen campground along a salmon river. We were worried about the weather so made a reservation at the Hostel in Trondheim, about a 40 mile ride. We both studied the maps and the Dutch guide, and wrote out the route so we wouldn't have to open the ipads in the rain. We got an early start, 8:30. The early morning sprinkle stopped and we had a beautiful ride for about an hour. Then it started! Heavy rains with a head wind. We were confused by the road signs at the town of Orkanger in spite of our map studies and ended up about 20K off route. We were soaked and cold and took refuge under an overhang of a vacant(?) buildIng. We decided to ride into a small town with a gas ... read more

We're moving along; wet, wild, beautiful, and interesting. To miss a mile long tunnel on the way to Alesund we were advised to take a bus. Good decision, a crazy scary tunnel! In Alesund we stayed at a Hostel and met 2 ladies from the Netherlands, Eva and Helene. Helene has some degenerative muscle disease and has slowly been driven to give up many activities. An ebike has allowed her to make this trip. Turns out in Holland there is a book that maps the Euro Velo 1 route up the coast all the way to Nordkapp! They kindly let me photograph a good number of the maps and they help greatly! And then there are the Norwegians that will approach and apologize for the weather!!! Today we were waiting for a ferry and a bus ... read more

We're presently staying in a cabin in Brykjelo. Another spectacular ride here. Note in one of the photos, a couple roller skiing. We rode through a couple of tunnels and then a long flat ride along a lake and an easy grade up to a high alpine valley. Fantastic water falls on either side with cliffs contrasting with deep green slopes. We cycled cautiously through a herd of goats and then a wonderful downhill into Brykjelo. And of course while the morning was dry, it began to rain in earnest for the afternoon and therefore no pictures of that spectacular valley. The last photo is of a sculptor garden in Brykjelo.... read more

Touring is always fun for the unexpected! Another workout day, cold and wet! We rode into the small village of Dale. Decided to take a hotel room. The only hotel and with only 5 or 6 rooms and because of a wedding they were all booked. Hmmm, we rode all over town looking for a spot to pitch our tent and a spot with enough privacy for the normal morning requirements. We finally found a field right in the middle of town. A large field ringed by some trees and high grass. We looked and debated and all of a sudden the manager of the hotel rides up. He said he understood our plight and offered to put us up for the night in his large house!!! Wow, are you sure, OK! Turns out there is ... read more

After almost a week of recuperation, (ice pack 3 to 4 times a day and ibuprofen), we're back on the road. The usual rt finding issues getting away from Nyborg but once away from the town things settled down. Cool, in the low 50's with on and off showers. A couple of good downpours but we we were lucky enough to be close to bridge overpasses both times. We rode 37 miles and rough camped at a marina. No services but a least a picnic bench and a flat spot to pitch the tent. Rained overnight of course, but it stopped by morning. Today was a challenging ride. Our goal was to reach a camp ground at Brekke. A couple of hours of riding to a ferry crossing and then the fun began. Luckily no rain ... read more

Due to rain, we stayed another day in Bergen. Used the time to go into the city to get supplies and be ready to hit the road. The weather cleared in the afternoon so we hiked up the mountain behind the Hostel. Turned out not to be the smartest thing to do, but it was a great hike. Amazing, the number of people running up the mountain, even on the steepest trail where we were. Woke to a relatively clear morning! A great day to ride! We struggled to find our way, but people really helped pointing the way. We did a paltry 20 miles to a campground and beat the rain. Luckily we took a basic cabin, because shortly thereafter my bad knee swelled up and refused to bend! A rough night but in the ... read more

We've made it to Bergen! A great train ride! Fantastic scenery through farmland, forests, and snow covered high country! Many water falls. Rain and drizzle much of the way of course and temps in 50's except for the high country. Luckily we had a window of dry when we got off the train. We had a quick meal and then a 1.6 Km uphill ride to the Bergen Montana hostel. Oh boy instantaneous jolt of how out of shape we are! We made it up without getting off though! A nice shower and then laundry and we're ready for bed!!! I'll try to post some pictures...... read more
