I'm a traveller from Brizzy, Australia. I'm a true believer in spontaneity and I think money is good but definitely overrated. This blog is about my travels, starting with the camino de santiago; a big big walk that i recommend to everyone! Check out: www.easytravelpage.com/emmma and www.couchsurfing.com.
Enjoy!

Hellooo everybody! So I guess I've been a bit lazy with the whole blog update thing. I'm back at home now, living with my dad and sister in our beautiful home in the mountains in Samsonvale. I have a job in fundraising for charity which I absolutely love, I get to travel a lot for it which is a definite bonus. I've been working on my music and have a website : www.myspace.com/emgrant - add me as a friend! Australia is just beautiful but I can't wait for a change of government! I'll put some pics up of my home and my new haircut when I get around to it, which will probably take a while. And one day I might even finish my camino stories...! It was definitely one of the best times of my ... read more

Hey guys, It's been a while, I know, and I still haven't finished my camino tales, I know. But u know how u start working and u get a routine and u get lazy...well this happened to me here in brighton. plus nothing really has happened worth writing home about until now. i got a few different waitressing jobs before i found one i really liked. they offered my an assistant manager position. kellie went crazy and had to go home so i got a flatmate who's a musician with a recording studio and he was going to record some stuff with me. other than that liffe was pretty mundane really, i just don't get english people, they appear to have little to no sense of humor, i kept thinking that my witty sarcasm was never ... read more

Hi guys! I'm starting a new travel journal. This one sends automatic emails when I update it. To see what I've been up to up until now, visit my old page at www.easytravelpage.com/emmma. I've decided to get a little bit more personal with this travel blog. The last one was fairly surface level because I wasn't sure who was going to read it. Now I've realised it doesn't matter. I'm going to open up and let you all know what's really going on inside my head. Haha lucky you...I think a perfect place to start this blog from in that case would be the start of my camino. I'll work from there till now, trying to recount my experiences with the help of my memories, my friends' memories and my little notebook that became my camino ... read more

J just added photos to my blog guys so if u get a chance scroll thru and have a look! We decided to take the opportunity for a rest day in Burgos, and got up early to stand in line to check into the other albergue in the town. Kellie and I went shopping - it is ridiculously difficult to buy thongs - sorry, flip-flops - in Spain! But Frederick bought a ball and we had some fun with that. It was an absolutely beautiful Sunday. I was full of energy all day, jumping around like a little kid! It was amazing how energetic I'd become since the camino, and with no walking to do I had to burn my energy somehow! Frederick, August and I took the ball, some cold beers and a pack of ... read more

Anya was nice enough to let us sleep in the next morning. The idea of walking 30 klms in the sun on a red wine hangover was far from appealing. Luckily the ham and cheese bocadillios we stopped for were the best ones we had on the camino, and a perfect hangover cure. What I wouldn't give for one of those right now... I had noticed by this stage that the 3 Aussies, the Kiwi and the 2 Danish boys were developing the habit of being the last ones to leave the albergues. We said our goodyes to Anya and were on our way. Patxi from Barcelona decided to show us a short cut to get to Burgos. We'd seen quite a bit of him over the past few days at the albergues and it was ... read more

Ok I know I haven't written in this in a while but some un-camino stuff has happened lately and I've had a bit of writers block. But I'm going to try to keep telling the story... Today we walked through a long expanse of pine forest that reminded me of the drive from my dad's house in Queensland to the sunshine coast. Lou and I walked with an American lady called Tish who had some cool stories to tell. We heard through the Camino grapevine that there was a nice albergue up ahead that provided meals and accomodation by donativo like the last couple of places. So we kept walking and eventually stumbled upon 'The house of snails.' Our host's name was Anya, a Spanish lady who was maybe in her 60s and rented her home ... read more

We left Granon reluctantly, although singing. I had made friends with a couple of cool American girls called Kristy and Moira who had decided to sing as well. 'I've got a loveley bunch of coconuts' seemed to be a popular song choice, of course initiated by Kellie and I. I had also written a beautiful tune called 'buen camino, peregrinos.' Those were conveniently the lyrics as well as the title. Later in the camino this became quite a hit. Now the days around this time are a little bit blurry so if someone who did the walk with me can correct me on any of the details please let me know. But as I remember, today was the day that Frederick and I got caught in a hailstorm. We were walking with the others then the ... read more

Kellie, Ezra and I set off with the Danish boys and Louise. It was great having the 6 of us together, it eased the tension that was sometimes apparent when just Kellie, Ezra and I walked together. Louise had a guide book saying that there was a refuge that was reputed to be the best on the camino, so we headed there. After lunch Kellie and Ezra were ready for their daily siesta and in no mood to keep moving so the four of us agreed to meet them there. Louise and I had become really close by this stage. Often we’d walk along and talk together about life, love, sex, the camino, religion, anything and everything. She’s a really cool girl. Today we were walking along and talking about the Danish boys, which were quite ... read more

The friendly hospitalero was concerned about me, and offered to let me stay another night. I really appreciated the offer but I felt like walking. It was a little bit frustrating that the hospitaleros hadn’t been nicer to Ezra when he was sick. I felt a little bit guilty for accusing the Ezra of self induced sickness, now that I knew all the pain he’d gone through. So I walked along slowly with my patient sister and her patient boyfriend. I was still feeling quite weak, I hadn’t eaten in 2 days or so, and walking uphills gave me a headspin. It was really comforting to have Kellie and Ezra with me. The race was effectively over because I think we’d all decided that it was better to stick together. I felt that I could eat ... read more

I was sad to have to say goodbye to my Danish and Kiwi friends the next day, who had apparently had a pretty crazy night at this wine fountain - well at least 2 of them had. But I was still feeling pretty lousy. A Spanish lady noticed I looked pale and offered me a lift to the next town, Los Arcos, in her car. She’d injured her foot on the camino so had an excuse to drive. I graciously accepted. We sat outside a supermarket for about an hour beforehand waiting for it to open, I didn’t mind at all as long as I had a comfortable seat. She didn’t really speak English and I didn’t really speak Spanish, but we still managed to communicate using hand gestures and a few words. It was actually ... read more
