It was so hot when we arrived in Bangkok on Monday, I don't think I was prepared for how hot it would be & I love the sun! We stayed only one night in Gaungzhou, (Main land China), as there wasn't a lot going on! We had a walk around Shamain Island where we were staying & brought our tickets to get to Hong Kong for the following day. By 4pm we were bored so decided to purchase some light refreshments, (in the form of vodka), and go & sit in the sun in the local park & watch people sing & practice Thai Chi. It was a really sunny day in Xiamen when we arrived on Saturday, we decided to get the ferry over to Gulangyu Island as we had the address of a hostel we thought we could stay in. We got what we thought was the passenger ferry across & I had checked with the lady in the ticket office that it went to Gulangyu & pointed to my map, she said it went to the location I was pointing to, (I should know by now not to trust what people say). We left Shanghai after another night on the beer & tequilla. We played pool with our room mate Rudi, (short for Rudolph as in the Reindeer!!) & an Australian guy, Josh, it was the last night of his trip so we had to make sure he went on a high. We arrived in Shanghai on Monday, after travelling for almost 48 hours straight. The train from Cheng-Du to Nanjing wasn't too bad considering the time we were on it, although when I finally got off the train I felt like I was still on it, swaying from side to side, then we got another train from Nanjing to Shanghai. Got to Cheng-Du after a not so bad 16 hour train journey, I did think it was going to be the worse thing ever when I saw I had to sleep at the top of a triple bunk bed thing about 8 feet high with no door or cabin & people spitting & farting again, (I must be getting tough!) We had the hostel people meet us again which was good, we are staying in a big converted warehouse, its great. After a 12 hour train journey we arrived in Xi An at 8am on Saturday morning. We had a soft sleeper & had to share it with a Chinese couple; the man spent the whole journey, (overnight), spitting & making disgusting noises, farting & at one point when I looked at him he had his hand down his trousers, (nice). We got picked up from the station by the hostel people & were able to check straight into our room so we dumped our bags & headed out to explore. We arrived in Beijing on Monday about 3pm and there was a bitterly cold wind. By the time we had got the bus into the city it was 4pm and we attempted to find the hostel with the directions we had from their website. We struggled so asked 2 different policemen who both sent us in opposite directions but we were later found by some other hostel girls who showed us there. Claire and I arrived in Japan on Monday to a warm sunny day after a ten and a half hour flight and very little sleep. We found our hostel in Tokyo quite easily and explored the local area, visiting parks and busy back streets with little shops and stalls. After a rest we headed out for some noodles with two girls we had met at our hostel, it was cheap and tasty! After a few beers we had an early night in preparation of a big day exploring on Tuesday.
