We got the ferry at 1pm from Muara to Pulau Labuan, on the way to the ferry terminal we thought we had spotted an information board so went over to have a look; it turned out to be a wanted Board for about twenty Indonesian men with mug shots, it did make me laugh. Another thing I forgot to mention about Brunei was that it is illegal to kiss in public & not customary to shake hands with the opposite sex, just a little interesting fact! We arrived at Pulau Labuan & headed to the hostel listed in only Lonely [View Full Entry]

We managed to get about an hours sleep at the airport, I got a bit more on the plane after we had taken off & then Claire woke me up for breakfast. When we got to Brunei we got our bags checked at the airport & questioned if we had alcohol with us. Although alcohol isn’t illegal here for non Muslim people you are only allowed to bring in a certain amount for personal consumption & have to declare it at customs. We arranged transport to the hotel we had booked & checked in about 1pm. We had air con [View Full Entry]

Claire & I got to the hostel about 4.30pm on Wednesday, located in the Muslim area of the city, a beautiful area with a really nice Mosque - Sultan Mosque, (the largest in Singapore), at the end of our street. We checked in & headed out for some food as we hadn't eaten anything since 7am. We went to an amazing Eygptian & Middle Eastern restaurant. We had a walk around the area, surfed the net, had a beer & a relatively early night. On Thursday we got up & headed out to try & set some dates on our [View Full Entry]

When we got to KL it was 6.20pm, a journey lasting 13 & a half hours. We headed out for food as we hadn't eaten properly all day, we got the metro to KLCC Mall & had a nice meal in a posh Chinese Restaurant then had a look around the shops. We went back to the hostel, had a beer, watched football & went to bed at 2am. What followed was the worst day of my trip so far, when Claire & I went to bed at 2am I was listening to my ipod & she put her phone [View Full Entry]

We arrived at the main village people stay in called Kuala Tahan in Taman Negara National Park at 6.30pm. The forest here is supposed to be the oldest in the world, the area was never affected by assorted ice ages or volcanic eruptions so besides people there has been little interference with the virgin jungle in the last 130 million years, (or so my little book says!) We found accommodation which turned out to be a bit of an effort after travelling for so long but was also quite entertaining. Whilst Rich was trying to barter the price of a room [View Full Entry]

We got up on Wednesday & checked out; we got the ferry to Butterworth which turned out to be free which was a bonus & were at the bus station in plenty of time. We had to wait for 2 hours for the bus which left at 10.30am; we stopped in Ipoh for lunch & arrived in the Cameron Highlands town of Tanah Rata at 3.30pm. We got a lift to a guest house which was recommended in my book & got a tour of the place. We secured a room for the three of us in what can only be [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Penang just after 5pm & headed for a hostel that we had seen in my book, it was only a short walk away but it was extremely hot, especially as Claire & I had managed to spread our belongings to three bags instead of the usual two. It was really busy around our street & we soon realised there was a festival on, when we checked in the man advised us it was a Chinese Festival just for the day. We dumped our stuff & headed straight out to explore what was going on. There was a stall [View Full Entry]

We got the 4pm Ferry on Wednesday from Satun to Langkawi & with the hour on we arrived at about 6.30pm; after a bit of a ropey meal at the ferry port, Dan was ill & so when we arrived at our bungalows, (which we had booked when we got off the boat), he went to bed. Justin, Rich, Claire & I went for some food in an Irish bar & then went to a bar on the beach for a drink with some crazy Rastas who ran the watersports shop on the beach. Claire, Justin & I headed home & [View Full Entry]

Elsie, Bob, Claire, Justin & I arrived in Ko Lanta at about 1.30pm on Thursday. We got a taxi from the pier & had an idea where we wanted to stay but when the driver took us to the place there were no bungalows at all, he said it had been wiped out by the tsunami, (we later found out it hadn't). So he took us further down the coast, we stopped at a couple of places & they all said they were full. We got out the taxi & Claire & I walked along the beach & found a place [View Full Entry]

On the bus to Phuket I shared my ipod with Rich as his had broken; I think we managed to annoy the whole bus by singing for a good deal of the journey. I then fell asleep & Rich decided he was going to film it on his camera as my head kept falling all over the place like a nodding donkey apparently. We arrived in Kata in Phuket at about 4pm, (Friday) & were met by Claire's friend Lee who lives & works in Phuket as a diving instructor. Lee had reserved us some rooms at a guesthouse so he [View Full Entry]
