We got the 4pm Ferry on Wednesday from Satun to Langkawi & with the hour on we arrived at about 6.30pm; after a bit of a ropey meal at the ferry port, Dan was ill & so when we arrived at our bungalows, (which we had booked when we got off the boat), he went to bed. Justin, Rich, Claire & I went for some food in an Irish bar & then went to a bar on the beach for a drink with some crazy Rastas who ran the watersports shop on the beach. Claire, Justin & I headed home & decided to play cards outside our bungalow, Rich returned about half an hour after us when our neighbour, Greg from Scotland, offered to go & get us some beers, I don't think I have ever seen Rich look so happy! We played cards & drank beer & checked on poor old Dan who didn't complain once when he was ill.
On Thursday Dan was feeling better & we decided to hire bikes to see more of the island. I was ok with this as the roads were good, the brakes worked, Rich was a decent driver & I had
a very unattractive lime green helmet. (Don't worry Mom & Dad I don't plan to make a habit of it, as I know you both worry!) After a late start we headed up the coast & had a bite to eat at KFC, overlooking a harbour. We carried on round the west coast to Langkawi Cable Car & got the cable car up the hill to 710 metres above sea level. There were some fantastic views over the island & we had an ice cream at the top. Justin managed to lose some money out his pocket over the side of the cliff, luckily it wasn't a lot.
We then headed to Seven Wells Waterfalls which weren't the best but we were the only people there. We were going to have a swim in the pool at the bottom but Justin was convinced he saw a snake, (no one else believed him), & as it wasn't a beautiful lagoon we gave it a miss & headed to Tanjung Rhu Beach on the north coast of Langkawi.
When we arrived, (passing random monkeys on the roadside), we practically had the beach to ourselves. The water was a bit choppy
but Claire, Rich, Dan & I went for a swim & the water was lovely & warm. We then headed inland to Langkawi airport where Rich attempted to find a Singapore Airlines desk, (with no luck) & Dan & J priced up flights to KL. We headed home & got showered, then went for food at the Irish Bar again, although the food wasn't as nice as the previous night. Justin had a headache so went home, Rich, Dan, Claire & I went to the Reggae bar & another bar with a live band. When we got home we sat chatting & playing cards until about 5am, it was a nice evening.
The next morning I felt tired, (could it have something to do with going to bed at 5am?). Claire, Rich, Dan & I went for breakfast, (Justin was still ill so we left him in bed), then Dan & Rich went to the airport again to book flights for Dan & J to go to KL whilst Claire & I sunbathed & swam in the sea. When the boys arrived back late afternoon we went & spoke to one of the Rasta's that ran the Watersports shop
& he gave us a good deal on jetski's.
I loved Jetski's they were so much fun, I think we got up to somewhere between 60 - 70 mph, we had one each so the four of us were darting about the water, loving it. We went on the internet, got ready & then went for a nice meal at a posh restaurant on the beach where we had been for a beer & a snack after the jetski's. Justin even managed to join us, although he only managed an ice cream & a beer. We had a lovely meal listening to a live band but it was sad knowing that it was the last time all five of us would be together.
After our meal we had a cocktail each & then headed to the Reggae Bar where we saw the nice Rasta man again from the jetski's. We drank plenty of vodka & sprite & shots of sambuca whilst a live band was playing. We got a couple of beers on the way home & I still felt fine, (I reckon the vodka was watered down in the Reggae bar or I have become immune to
alcohol).
We got to bed about 5am & the following morning we were woken up by Dan & Justin to say goodbye. It was a sad farewell & Claire & I had a little cry, Rich was staying with us which was good although we won't see Dan or J now until we are back in the UK. Rich, Claire & I spent Saturday on the beach sunbathing & swimming, in the evening we watched the football in the Irish Bar. We were all tired so an early night was called for, (after I had plucked Rich's eyebrow's!), before heading to Penang on Sunday.
We checked out our room at 11.30am on Sunday & went for breakfast before getting a taxi to the port. We had a coffee at Starbucks & had a nosy around the shops. We boarded the Ferry to Penang which left at 2.30pm, Claire & Rich had a sleep on the boat & I did some research reading my book on Malaysia to get a better idea of where we should go.
