Today Dwain got to sit in the passenger seat and let Lorraine do all the driving. Dwain’s job was to navigate, read the signs and yell “STOP” when he saw something worthy of a picture. Problem is, what Dwain thinks is worthy of a picture and what Lorraine thinks is worthy are two very different things. At least we agreed Mt. Robson was worthy and there must be twenty pictures of that highest peak in the Canadian Rockies (3900 meters). Problem was you could not see the mountain because a thick layer of cloud covered the summit all the time we were there. Anyway, Lorraine got a new jacket and Dwain got a couple of mosquito bites. Leaving Mt. Robson took us by Moose Lake, where we saw NO moose, then into Jasper National Park. This ... read more

July 6, 2011 - DAWSON CREEK We are now at the end of our stay in Dawson Creek and have had time to meet all the members of our group and get to know some of them quite well. All rigs have been checked to be sure they are ready for the road ahead, CB radios are up and working, etc. It is interesting to see how the men gather in small groups around one of the rigs and have a good time talking and joking together. Dwain is enjoying this camaraderie with fellow travelers. This evening the whole group boarded a bus to go to Milepost Zero for a group picture and then to a lovely banquet room at the George Dawson Inn for a wonderful dinner together. We are told this is just one ... read more

July 4 – 6, 2011 DAWSON CREEK After travelling 1337 Km we have now arrived at Mile “0” – the beginning of the Alaska Highway. Here we will meet up with the rest of our Good Sam Caraventure Group and get well oriented for the 43 day trip ahead!! People in our group come from many states and provinces, some from as far away as Florida, Indiana, Arizona, California, Ontario etc. All are retired and travelling in various size rigs. We will be traveling in smaller groups of three or four rather than a long caravan of 23 rigs, and we have been warned that if we let more than four or five vehicles line up behind us we will be ticketed by whatever local authority sees us. From Dawson Creek we will only have spotty ... read more

2011-07-04 - DAY FOUR HINTON TO GRANDE PRAIRIE Today’s drive took us on the scenic route 40 paralleling the Eastern side of the Willmore Wilderness National Park. Driving in Alberta reminded me a lot of Wyoming. Almost everyone drives a pickup so they can pull their RV or Quads or Boat!! This area is certainly a huge playground, and because it was the weekend of July 1 Canada Day and July 4 Independence Day in the US, we passed many groups out for a fun filled weekend. The country was very beautiful in its vastness, something that you cannot capture on the camera. Everything was so green – many shades of green – just as if it was early Spring, and the wild flowers along the side of the road were blooming profusely. Our camp site ... read more

2011-07-01 DAY TWO – CACHE CREEK TO VALEMOUNT, BC This morning we woke to the sound of rain on the roof of our trailer. Our drive today took us through Kamloops and then north on the Yellowhead Hwy, past the entrance to Wells-Gray Provincial Park and on to Valemount where we will spend the night. Our road today paralleled the North Thompson River pretty much all the way. Once again the river is VERY FULL and quite dramatic at times. Of course, the most dramatic spots are in places where there is no room to pull over to get a picture!! Anyway, here are a few shots I took today to share with you. Tomorrow we will take our time though Mt. Robson Provincial Park and Jasper National Park. Hopefully the sun will break through the ... read more

2011-06-30 FIRST DAY ON THE ROAD Today was to be a short jog up to Cache Creek to let us start out nice and easy and rest up from all the activities of the past two weeks with the grandchildren – Richard’s 4 girls and Rebekah’s 2 from time to time. Well day 1 turned out to be more eventful than we expected. The #1 highway between Chilliwack and Hope was closed due to a huge mud slide that covered the road in both directions. So we drove up Yale road and out the #9 to Agassiz then up the North side of the river on Hwy #7 to Hope. We met up with the traffic back-up about 30 Km. West of Hope. So it took one and a half hours to get to Hope – ... read more

In Australia where I grew up, an RV is called a Caravan. My father who was also an avid photographer titled his travel presentations as "Where My Caravan Has Rested". As a quick review of our trip to Texas we have included a map of our route (which was very fiddly and time consuming to make) along with pictures of some, but not all, of the places where our "caravan" has rested. We thank you for joining us on this trip via our Blog and hope you have been able to receive some of the enjoyment from it that we have. Until next time, take care and remember to count your blessings. Dwain and Lorraine... read more

THANKSGIVING IN OREGON. November 19 – 27, 2010 On our last published Blog we had made it safely to Salem, OR where we spent our time visiting with Mike and Richard and their families. So now bear with us as we share LOTS of pictures of family!! It was a great time being together for Thanksgiving Day – a time when families in the States try to get together if at all possible. It is also a good time to remember all the blessings we enjoy in our lives and show our gratitude to God- just as the Pilgrims did so long ago. (Yes, they did, despite the politically correct versions the media are circulating these days!!) How special family is to us even though we have been through our ups and downs like most families, ... read more

November 15 – 19, 2010 Heading back to Oregon. Monday morning Dwain stopped by a Goodyear Tire store to have them check all the trailer tires and to buy a new spare for the trailer. All the other tires looked okay, so we decided to continue our travels with the new spare, “just in case”!! We hit I-5 north again in Sacramento, CA, and drove up the freeway north to Redding. The only thing of note along the way was how dry the country was. There were many large signs announcing that Congress was to blame for turning California into a Dust Bowl!! Apparently they have passed some kind of legislation that is limiting access to water and in this part of the country, irrigation is the life of the farm. We stopped overnight in a ... read more
