La Rochelle

 Europe » France
We arrived in the early evening yesterday, so we were quite tired after our long travel. This morning we went too La Rochelle, a very pretty, small harbour town which we walked around briefly before stopping at a bistro for lunch. I had a whole pizza! After lunch we climbed an old tower which used to be used to gaurd the townfrom incoming boats. We climbed too the very top and got an amazing view of the town and the two lighthouses flashing in syncronisation! Next we walked round the tower to the outer side of the town where we [View Full Entry]

Last Day
Last Day
at a carribean pub
We went to Charlotteville this morning and went into the town for the last time. Next we went to Flag Staff Hill, one of the highest points of Tobago, where you could see the Carribean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet. It was beautifully clear. Then we came home for lunch, and finally we set off from the house, for the last time, to go down to the south of the island to the Airport. On the way to the airport, we stopped at a Fort, where we saw some beautiful scenery. By the time we left Tobago, it was [View Full Entry]

Castara/Heavenly bay
Castara/Heavenly bay
our fave snorkelling spot
We drove to Roxborough, then drove back down to Scarborough where we got tonight's meal. We drove back to Bloody Bay via Hillsborough Dam. We got onto this very rocky and bumpy unmade road and drove quite a distance, and we found the dam, but no water! Mum thought saw a crocodile, but I didn't see it! We drove round in a massive circle and ended up back at Bloody Bay for lunch. We went for our last snorkel off Castara today too (BOOOOHOOOOO) and we saw 3 Stingrays! I think it was a Mum and baby, then a Dad on [View Full Entry]

Heavenly Bay
Spent the whole day at Heavenly bay/ Castara beach today. It was really good fun. We played in the sea and snorkelled twice, and we saw a ray! When we got home I looked it up in the tropical fish book and found out that it was a Southern Stingray! We could have got stung! There is a forest fire crackling away just down the road from where we are and I can smell the disgusting smoke! [View Full Entry]

On the Jetty
On the Jetty
Ready to go snorkelling on the reef
We got up quite early and went out on the glass bottom boat! We went all the way to Little Tobago, a much, much smaller island which is also a bird sanctuary. When we got there we snorkelled off the beach and saw some quite nice fish and brain corals. We saw a massive brain coral too, the biggest in the Western hemisphere. It was over 2,000 years old. Next we went to the Angel Reef on the boat. We snorkelled again and saw loads of fish. It was excellent. This afternoon we spent loads of time in the pool, [View Full Entry]

Snorkel Boat

We were originally planning to go on a glass bottom boat to the angel reef, but the car had a flat tyre! So instead we decided too go and explore Parlatuvier, the next village from Bloody Bay. We went down to beach where some more fishermen were fishing. Parlatuvier is quite a fishing community, because there is a jetty, and lots of small fishing boats at the end. We then went to a little store to get some supplies. We also went into a little bread shop and got some bread. When we got home, we decided to go to [View Full Entry]

getting ready to take the plunge ( well go abit further in!)
We got up quite early and went too the Argyle waterfall. It was very nice. We got there and there were three pools. We started in the lower pool which was very shallow then got REALLY deep. It was very refreshing to swim over the 20ft deep pool to reach the waterfall itself and take a revitalising shower. Next we moved to the middle pool and had another swim. It was much smaller and shallower but the waterfall was much higher up. I had another tropical shower in this waterfall. We didn't bother to go to the top pool. We [View Full Entry]

Argyle Waterfall

Today we went into the rainforest! We got up at about 6am and went very early to meet Fitzroy, our guide. We trekked through the rainforest on the Gilpin Trail, which took us to many beautiful waterfalls. We also saw some amazing animals. There was a bit of a Steve Irwin moment when Fitzroy leapt onto a clump and grabbed this little snake!! It was so small and it wasn't poisonous, in fact it was quite cute. The end part of its tail came off though, which was disgusting, because it was still moving! Fitzroy said it would grow back [View Full Entry]

RARE

This morning we went to Bloody Bay beach. The river runs into the sea there when the tide comes a bit further in, and I spotted an abandoned bamboo raft. We were only there for about 15 minutes, and walked up the beach, then split to drive down the Caribbean coast. We stopped at a Roti shop, and I had a vegetable Roti which was lush, and we sat on Stone Haven beach, underneath a poisonous Manchineel tree for shade, and luckily we didn't touch, because we later found out that if you touch any part of it you get severe [View Full Entry]

Today started terribly, because the water system throughout Bloody Bay was broken! We couldn't shower, and we had to use pool water to wash and use the loo! We had a swim anyway and practised our underwater somersaults and entering the sea from a boat when snorkelling technique! It got much better though, because we went back to Castara beach for the whole day! We swam in the sea, then had a little snorkel and saw some small tropical fish. We went back to the beach and had sandwiches and then we went back in the sea. Some young girls, [View Full Entry]
