Hi Everyone, So another winter has come and gone in a blink of an eye! Whistler delievered on snow once again and all those pow day were just amazing. Not to mention all the kids I taught that I learnt something from all of them and charmed me when they were not naughty. At the end of each winter the Ski School hands out Instructor of the year awards. I was lucky enough to get the Kids Adventure Camp Instructor of the year award which I was very shocked about but very humble as well. As for my exams: well I didn't pass them unfortunitly. I had an off day mentally! So next winter I will give it another go. I finished Ski School on April 20th and have only skied once since then, seeing my ... read more

MY exam starts friday! Everyone involved in sport at some stage in there careers dreams of winning a Grand Final in whatever sport they play or dreams of being in the Olympics. This is my Grand Final or Olympics! The past 4 years have been a build up to the next five days. No words can describe how much guts, effort, patience and self belief it's taken to get me to where I am right now in life! Three years ago 'on this day' I was a complete Cripple and needed everyone around me to do most of my 'day to day' things for me. As for now; in 4 days time I've got the opportunity to get a level of Skiing that is certified by the ISIA (International Ski Instructor Alliance) at any resort around ... read more

Hi Everyone, Lets go back to the end of summer........ mid Oct I ended up finishing my residency paperwork just intime before leaving to come back to Australia for 3 weeks in late October. It was a very large project in getting all the paperwork together that was asked for and going threw it all in detail so it all matched up. It is one of the hardest things mentally I've ever undertaken (other them my surgeries). late Oct I hopped on a Air Canada Flight to make a quick 3 week trip home to Australia in-between seasons. I arrived home on the Wednesday and was in no mood to be sociable after a 16 hr flight. I went to Cricket training on the thursday with ever intention of playing in a low grade. After much ... read more

Summer is here, (well kinda). Warm days and cool nights could be classed as summer I guess. We have had patches of 25 degree days and then rain for a few days. Not that I'm complaining tho! Only if winter would last longer is what I think. Anyway. Work has been busy which is great for the bank account. Working 6 days at the moment doing around the 45hours per week mark (which is enough for me). I've got only 7 weeks of work for the summer to go before coming home for 3 weeks in mid October. Apart from work I've bought a new pair of (Head Supershape Magnum skis). I needed a training pair so I could seperate my teaching and training pair but still have the same kind of ski. My teaching pair ... read more

The summer months are here. With our friend La Nina being the current weather pattern, we have been having a wet and colder then normal summer. Kind of like a typical Sydney winter really. I'm currently working part-time at the golf course and baking bread fulltime at Purebread which is a local bakery just south of Whistler. Basically I had to step down from doing fulltime hours at the Golf course seeing I was getting called off alot in the early part of the summer. I'm doing around the 60 hr per week mark. Great for saving money but i'm also happy it's only for another 2 months. The people at the bakery are really nice and I could see myself in the future working there for summers. Unfortunitly the head baker has gone on holidays ... read more

Well it sure feels like it has been! The weather has been raining and cold and not like summer from anywhere. Kind of like the Aussie winter around the Sydney area. The tradeoff is the snow is sticking around which is good I thing, seeing I'm missing Skiing already. With the weather and the way the world is with money at the moment, things have been super slow at the Golf Course and I have had lots of opportunities to get out and play, seeing I keep getting called off from work. So I decided to go out job hunting to test the waters of whats out there. Over the past week I have been doing trials at 2 local bakeries near to Whistler which even my Golf Course boss (has encourage me to do). Mon, ... read more

I hope everyone is doing really well!? So I'm back in Whistler after the most amazing 26 days in the USA. We managed on many occassions to go off the touristy path and see, do, eat and live like an American. We were rewarded with meeting some amazing people and getting in amongest the culture and not just seeing it from a Bus window. Some of what we sore was very shocking and some was just inspirational but we got to see the real USA. We went to: New Orleans, Memphis, Myrtle beach, Charleston, Wilmington, Washington DC, Atlantic City, New York. We went threw: Lousiana, Mississippi, Tennassee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We sore and done some amazing things and here are just a few: - A night out ... read more

Hi Everyone, I've had so much going on I've not had the chance to do a Blog last month, but never fear I'm back. It's been snowing like crazy all season and currently we have over 1400cm's of accumilated snow, with a base sitting at 3.6m. I've never skied so much powder in all my life. The feeling of floating and getting snow sprayed all over you is something that just can't be discribed' it needs to be experienced first hand!' I don't remember so many cold snaps in past seasons as this season's La-Nina cycle has brought us. Cold snaps I mean -15 and below. From memory the coldest it got this season while working was -26 (before windchill) and -36 at the peak one day which topped out at -50 with windchill which (I ... read more

Hi Everyone, I hope everyone is going well! With snow during the nights and clear and sunny days over the past week we have had the most amazing snow conditions. The temps have been cold and the snow has just kept coming with it maxing out at just over 2metres in 7 days on Fri. Seeing Whistler is on the Pacific North West coast we get alot of wet snow but on Thursday night we got "Champagne powder" for friday. Champagne powder is snow that had fallen that is under -6 degress, seeing with being so cold has very little water content and it's impossible to make a snowball with being so dry. It was so light and cold and fluffy, it was just a privilege to be able to ski with my class. It all ... read more

Hello to everyone again. I trust your all enjoying yourself where ever you maybe! This is how I can describe what I'm up to! Work has been super busy with it 6 days per week and the other day is for either skiing a few runs at my own pace or doing the weekly chores which seem to be only possible on Saturdays. Now you may be thinking that 'hang on' (you went there to ski and train for your level 3)!? Which is right, but as of the last 5 weeks I've been teaching high levels of kids and on Sundays Adults, so I've really had no need to ski on my day off seeing I've been doing it everyday of the week! Even when I'm working I'm able to practise my own skiing. Last ... read more
