We were up at 6.30am and had just enough time to catch a quick breakfast before getting on the bus. We arrived in Nha Trang at lunch time, where we had a 5 hour stop over before our night bus to Hoi An. We had a quick look around the city and checked out the beach, before spending some time in an internet cafe and grabbing a pizza. The bus journey was pretty awful as the bus stopped every hour making it impossible to sleep as they kept turning the lights on. We were eventually dropped at a hotel, very early [View Full Entry]

We had to be up at 6am to get the bus, which was grand. Although Dalat looked very close on the map it took nearly 10 hours to get there! We were dropped at the Pacific Hotel, the rooms looked ok and were cheap so we decided to stay there. After dumping our stuff we headed out for a bite to eat, and were approached by two easyrider motor bike tour guides who convinced us to book a tour with them the next day. The next day we met our guides at the hotel at 9am to start our tour. Our [View Full Entry]

After an hour delay in the guesthouse our bus arrived to pick us up. Luckily for us the delay gave us a chance to grab a much needed coffee to cure our hungoverness (It's a word). It took about 6 and half hours to get to the border, where we had some lunch. The border was as slow and painful as usual. From the border it was about another hour and half to the city. We were dropped at a tour guide office and walked from there to a hotel we found in our guide book. Tired from the journey we [View Full Entry]

Up at 5am to catch the bus to Phnom Penh. After catching motos into town we found we were standing in front of the same sad little bus we had arrived on. We made sure to get different seats, which ended up making little difference. The journey was as bad as the first time to Kratie and then our driver decided not to take the newly paved road to Phnom Penh which has a toll. Instead we took a variety of cross country dirt tracks all the way down to the capital. It took 12 hours in total and we were [View Full Entry]

Ban Lung Asia » Cambodia » East » Banlung
Ban Lung is in the very northeast of Cambodia in the province of Ratanakiri. It's a bit of a nightmare to get to but thankfully we had halfed the pain by stopping in Kratie for a couple of nights. There are two ways to get to Ban Lung. You can travel 8 people to a Toyota Camry which is fine if your of average Cambodian size but not ideal for us. The other option is to take a very crappy and old yet hardy bus along the dismal dirt track. We went with the second option although we are not quite [View Full Entry]

Kratie Asia » Cambodia » East » Kratié
After getting the bus back to Phnom Penh we booked into the same guesthouse (Eventually -Seems there are a few of them with the same name seeing as it appears in Lonely Planet). Then we do what we always do in Cambodia - We went for an Indian. After that we arranged a bus to Kratie. After changing from a minibus to a big bus and a 6 hour journey the following morning we reached Kratie. Kratie is a bit of a one horse town famous for being one of the few places on the Mekong River you can still see [View Full Entry]

Looking slightly the worse for wear after our night out in Phnom Penh our guesthouse changed our bus to a little later allowing us to eat something before we caught our bus south. A tuk tuk to the bus and 4 and a half hours later we were at South East Asia's newest beach resort. We caught two motos up to Weather Station Hill where we wanted to stay. After getting a gigantic room with two double beds and room for a pony, in a french run guesthouse, we grabbed some food and headed to bed still somewhat struggling from the [View Full Entry]

After a scarey moto transfer across Battambang at breakneck speed (No idea why as we were half an hour early), we got our bus to Phnom Penh. Our driver was of the careful variety and blew the horn at every living thing he saw for 5 hours driving us to the brink of madness. Our moto driver from Battambang had arranged for a friend of his to meet us at the bus station but we decided we would probably be better off moneywise if we looked after ourselves. He was waiting at the bus stop for us and chased us as [View Full Entry]

Well they had us up at the ridiculous hour of 5am to catch our ferry to Battambang. For those of you that don't know Battambang is Cambodia's second largest city (Not that you would know by the look of it). An hour of collecting folks around the town and a brief bus journey brought us to our ferry. It was less a ferry and more a glammed up skiff with a roof to be fair. We were amongst the lucky ones who got the shaded seats downstairs, where as some people were on the roof in the sun. As it was [View Full Entry]

We were up at 6am to get our surprisingly snazzy new minibus to the Cambodian border. We stopped about 20km short of the border to sort out visas and have a bit of lunch. From there we were dropped at the Thai border which we got through fairly quickly. The Cambodian border however was not quite so efficient and lots of folks opted for bribes to speed the process up. We were then loaded onto a fairly nice bus which gave us hope that we may be getting it all the way to Siem Reap. However it was merely the transfer [View Full Entry]
