We were up early and caught the train back to Sydney. After dropping our stuff back at Stephens we headed into town to try and change some flights around, post some stuff home and visit a travel agent. We were able to do all but change the flights. After a busy “administrative day” (Not all one big holiday you know) we headed to P.J O'Briens (There’s a chain of these places in Australia) and had a bite to eat and a few beers. We met Stephen there and he suggested we go to the IMAX to see the bloodfest 300 [View Full Entry]

We were up at a very early hour of the morning after a late night in Kings Cross. First thought on our mind was a coffee and a bacon butty which we tracked down. We were collected shortly after by our bus for the day. The Blue Mountains are about 100 kilometres west of Sydney. As the name suggest the Blue Mountains are actually blue. Its got something to do with the bluish tinge the range takes on when viewed at a distance, caused by the release of volatile oils from eucalyptus forests (Thank you Wikipedia once again). The plan was [View Full Entry]

We caught the overnight bus from Coffs Harbour to Sydney and arrived into Sydney on a grey Good Friday morning at about 6am. After breakfast at the station and some much needed coffee we caught the bus to Stephens’s house in Gladesville. Stephen met us at the main street and we headed down to his house. We met his housemate Aisling also from Dublin. As they are both working away in Sydney they are living in relative luxury and seemed all prepared for our visit. Fairly exhausted Ronan hit the hay while Stephen and Ciaran headed into the huge St [View Full Entry]

We were collected off our bus quite late that night and checked into Barracuda Hostel. We ended up with our own little dorm which was great. Having spent a whole day hanging around the hostel in Byron Bay we headed straight for bed. Coffs Harbour is about half way between Sydney and Brisbane and is a fairly big place. Best known for its Giant Banana and connecting theme park which celebrates Coffs main industry (Unsurprisingly we didn't make it out to see it). Oh and Russell Crowe lives down the road. The next day we were up early and took a [View Full Entry]

After a two hour drive we arrived in Byron Bay. Byron Bay is a town in New South Wales on the eastern most point of the mainland of Australia and is a tiny place with a population of about 6,000. It's also known as a fairly bohemian town with lots of hippie locals and endless tourists and backpackers. We got collected and dropped at our hostel. From there we had a bite to eat in the crazy kitchen of the hostel before meeting a few of the hostel locals. We met two English lads Darren and Dave first, followed by a [View Full Entry]

After the craziness of Fraser Island we had a wind down night in Rainbow beach and the following afternoon made our way back to Brisbane. We caught up with Nessa for a farewell drink before we headed south. The next day we were on the bus heading for Surfers Paradise. We hit Surfers around 4 O'clock in the afternoon and got a lift from the bus station to our hostel. We decided that evening to have a different sort of meal and went with pasta (Note the sarcasm) which was delicious which I guess it should be at this stage. [View Full Entry]

We were up at the crack of dawn not out of eagerness but as we had been promised free pancakes by Luke the organiser of the Fraser Island trip. On a round the world trip of this length it's hard to say anything for definite but we would have to say that the pancakes have been the single biggest disappointment of the trip. Anyway they got us out of bed. After checking out the 5 teams of eleven assembled in the car park, we were introduced to our Toyota Landcruiser. Apparently she had been rolled three times previously in Fraser (Good [View Full Entry]

After the briefest of stays in Noosa we headed further north to Rainbow Beach. We were mainly heading to Rainbow Beach as it is a major starting point for trips to Fraser Island. We arrived quite late in the evening at Dingo's hostel. After checking in we headed to find some grub but most of the town had shut up. Having a nose for these types of things we eventually found a pizzeria on the far side of the village. After that we met our roommates, most of whom appeared to be working in the hostel in one job or another. [View Full Entry]

We were actually staying at Sunshine Beach a short distance from Noosa. After checking in we headed to the shops and decided for a change to have rice for dinner, our other primary meal for the past three weeks having been pasta (Chefs we aren't). We met the others staying in our building which included two Irish girls from Templeogue and a cool Swedish couple (Every hostel in OZ has one). We [View Full Entry]

We were up bright and early and not feeling all that great (Self inflicted) to catch our flight from Cairns to Brisbane. We arrived safely after a short flight. After arriving in the airport we noticed that a lot of the guys in the airport were about 5 foot ten in height and about 5 foot ten across the shoulders. We later learned that this was not some genetic disorder amongst Brisbane men, but that they were all part of the North Queensland Cowboys team who were in town to play the Brisbane Broncos in the very average sport that is [View Full Entry]
