The fresh cool air of Paris blew gently on our faces, as we made our way to our budget hotel. A thankful change from the heat and humidity of Venice. We arrived in Venice in the afternoon. It was hot and packed with tourists. Everyone says you cant grasp the beauty of Venice from videos and movies, and that its so amazing when your there. Most of those people are wrong. It's nice as a novelty but really, i don't understand the hysteria around it. Ok, San Gimignano was really cool. We took a bus to the station then a train to a Poggibonsi then a bus to San Gimignano. Bit of an effort and it was about this time that we realised we should have based ourselves in Florence. Not to worry. The bus dropped us off at the gates of the old walled city. We wandered around and nothing interesting happened. The city is beautiful though and puts Siena to shame. Then we got the bus back to Poggibonsi and decided to eat before getting the train. Siena was good though maybe we were there a little long. Seven nights in total, in a camp site. We had our own cabin which was great and we spend most of the time laying around doing nothing. We had been walking and walking around cities for so long it was great to veg out in natural (kinda) settings of the camping ground. We only went into Siena twice the whole time. After waiting on the air-phone for five minutes we were finally buzzed into the apartment block of our hostel, 'floor five', we were told. We walked into the small, dark lobby and headed for the old lift in front of us. Pressing the button again and again we soon realised it was out of order. This was the last thing we needed. The train ride to Vienna was not without incident. We boarded comfortably in Budapest, found a seat sat down and it was the nicest train so far. The train seemed empty for a while till a whole bunch of Asian tourists started filling the cabins. That' weird, we thought. We hadn't really seen any huge groups of Asians on the trains before. We had heard nothing but good things about Budapest so we were excited to arrive. The train pulled in around 7am and we had to catch the Metro to our hostel. After ringing the hostel door bell for about 5min with no reply, we decided we'd have to kill some time. We were starving and started to look for something to eat. The Old Serbian Train The train from Thessaloniki was stinking hot. The seat covers were a nice shade of brown so there was no telling how disgustingly dirty they really were. There was no air con, just open windows and curtains that would flap in the wind. We had seats though. The 3 of us shared one cabin and thought we may even sleep that night.
