The fresh cool air of Paris blew gently on our faces, as we made our way to our budget hotel. A thankful change from the heat and humidity of Venice. A small bakery caught my attention and we stopped for some fresh croissants. Words cannot describe how good croissants are in France. Unfortunately for us our stay was going to be a short one. We wanted around five nights each, for Paris and Amsterdam but when we were trying to book Amsterdam we found out that at that exact time the International Broadcasting Convention was on, and hotel prices go through [View Full Entry]

Vencie Venice Venice.... Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
We arrived in Venice in the afternoon. It was hot and packed with tourists. Everyone says you cant grasp the beauty of Venice from videos and movies, and that its so amazing when your there. Most of those people are wrong. It's nice as a novelty but really, i don't understand the hysteria around it. It's slightly cleaner then Bangkok and the only difference is, in Bangkok a boat ride costs 15 Baht not €15. We stood in a line for half an hour to buy a bus ticket. We were heading to the mainland, back to the ghetto, we are [View Full Entry]

San Gimignano Europe » Italy » Tuscany » San Gimignano
Ok, San Gimignano was really cool. We took a bus to the station then a train to a Poggibonsi then a bus to San Gimignano. Bit of an effort and it was about this time that we realised we should have based ourselves in Florence. Not to worry. The bus dropped us off at the gates of the old walled city. We wandered around and nothing interesting happened. The city is beautiful though and puts Siena to shame. Then we got the bus back to Poggibonsi and decided to eat before getting the train. The trains only came every hour and [View Full Entry]

Siena Camping! Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Siena
Siena was good though maybe we were there a little long. Seven nights in total, in a camp site. We had our own cabin which was great and we spend most of the time laying around doing nothing. We had been walking and walking around cities for so long it was great to veg out in natural (kinda) settings of the camping ground. We only went into Siena twice the whole time. It wasnt too impressive. It was nice. Though hilly and annoying to walk around. We did however see St. Catherine's head and finger in her Cathedral. Wasnt what i [View Full Entry]

Avanti to Tuscany Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence
Well well well, blog blog blog. Ok the blog should get going once again. Though to achieve this i will have to do brief summaries of whats been going on, instead of the more detailed account. Until i get to where we are and can remember enough to make it interesting. Well Florence... This was so long ago... but Kell just came me the low down. I could barely remember. We arrived in Florence in the morning and made our way on foot to our hostel. When we finally arrived we were turned around and sent back. The hostel has two [View Full Entry]

After waiting on the air-phone for five minutes we were finally buzzed into the apartment block of our hostel, 'floor five', we were told. We walked into the small, dark lobby and headed for the old lift in front of us. Pressing the button again and again we soon realised it was out of order. This was the last thing we needed. We had been traveling since eight o' clock the night before. It was now 8am, and we were faced with ten flights of stairs. Beautiful as the old, dusty staircase was, it was a hell of a climb. We [View Full Entry]

Colosseum, again

A train ride without incident? What? Come on, what's going on? Your kiding arn't ya? No, no joke we got on the train. Sat down, rode to Salzburg and got off. Great. Now we just need to get bus number one to some stop and walk a bit to the hostel. The bus was easy enough to find. It was sitting in the depot waiting to leave. We walked up to the bus driver, one pack on our back and one on our stomach, fully loaded and ready to get to a place we could call home. "Can we get two [View Full Entry]

Vienna in a Day Europe » Austria » Vienna State » Vienna
The train ride to Vienna was not without incident. We boarded comfortably in Budapest, found a seat sat down and it was the nicest train so far. The train seemed empty for a while till a whole bunch of Asian tourists started filling the cabins. That' weird, we thought. We hadn't really seen any huge groups of Asians on the trains before. The train started to depart and there were only two other people in our cabin. Both middle age men, this was going to be an easy three hours. A few minutes later a conductor asked for our tickets. We [View Full Entry]

Budapest.... Europe » Hungary » Central Hungary » Budapest
We had heard nothing but good things about Budapest so we were excited to arrive. The train pulled in around 7am and we had to catch the Metro to our hostel. After ringing the hostel door bell for about 5min with no reply, we decided we'd have to kill some time. We were starving and started to look for something to eat. Of course it was too early for any cafe's to be open, except maybe the McCafe. Mc Donald's stood there in the distance, a huge shining M beckoned us from afar. After our last Mc Donald's experience we couldn't [View Full Entry]

Enter Dejan.... Europe » Serbia » North » Novi Sad
The Old Serbian Train The train from Thessaloniki was stinking hot. The seat covers were a nice shade of brown so there was no telling how disgustingly dirty they really were. There was no air con, just open windows and curtains that would flap in the wind. We had seats though. The 3 of us shared one cabin and thought we may even sleep that night. The cabin seats six, so when you fold the seats down can sleep three, kinda. We had about an hour and a half to the "Macedonian" (F.Y.R.O.M.) border. Kell and I were slightly nervous but [View Full Entry]
