You have not been here and not do one of the boat trips on the Rhine. We decided to do both. One day on the boat and one day by car so we have the best of two worlds. The first trip by boat left at 9 o'clock but that was a bit to early, so we went on the second one that left at 11 o'clock and was more our style. According to the time table, we would be in Rudesheim at about three and leave again at six. Not so when we arrived in Rudesheim we had just 45 minutes to look around. The boat trip itself is okay, the problem is, you are on the boat and cannot get of to see something. You float passed all the places, trying to get the ... read more

We left Furstenberg with rain but it did not take long for the weather to clear. That was good for it is a gorgeous area to drive through. Most of the way we took country roads but than time wize it became a problem and we had to change to autobahn. Our place of arrival was Boppard on the Rhine. We were there last year but it is such a nice place and very central. The place we stayed last time was not that nice but it is different now, the Hotel now has a balcony, overlooking the Rhine. That makes it very entertaining, there is so much going on in the street below as well as on the water. A few places we did not see last time. There is this Roman castle from the ... read more

We are at the edge of Schwarzwald. A beautiful area with lots of things to see. We had a look at Titisee. We have been here before in 1996 and it is amazing how much it has change since than. More shops and more places to eat. We first looked at the lake, You cannot change anything on that. There are more paddle boats on the water. It cost you 8 Euro for an hour to paddle yourself silly. It was much better to have a nice coffee at a terrace and watch the people go by. There is a lot of fun doing that. Next stop was another look at the Donau, but on a place where it was wider as at Donaueschingen. That would be at a place called Giessen. Indeed, the river is ... read more

Allthough we put into the GPR no freeways, it did send us all over autoways and we were in and out of Swiss in not time at all. It is a pleasure to drive over the German country roads. We arrived in our very small township of Furstenberg early afternoon. We had no lunch and were advised to go a township not far from there, for there were no restaurants in Furstenberg. It has a brewery we saw. So we went to Donaueschingen and had a Schwrzwald coupe. That was an icecream and it did the trick we were not hungry after that. We found out that this little place was the start of the big river Donube. In the centre of town is a well that is the start the big river. Even the Roman ... read more

On the day of leaving we had a few anxious moment. We were leaving Spain towards France. We were told by the reception of the Vichy Spa resort, that the roads North were closed because massive fires at the border. It di look terrifying on TV. One of the workers there had come through anyway. So we thought we tried too. Because the alternative would be to go through Andorra, which is a long way around. The whole sky was filled with smoke clouds and the burning fumes were strong. As we came closer, we could see the fires in the distance, traffic was crawling on the highway as well as on the tolway. At one time we c ould see the trucks at a standstill on the Tolway above us. We found out later that the ... read more

Leaving Zaragoza and on to Coldes de Malavella it took us through lovely scenic roads. Part Freeway and lots of rural roads. We travelled through the start of the Pyranees. We stoped at a roadhouse for a nature call and coffee. It states very cleary at the entrance use toilet only if you are a customer. Fair enough. We had to look for a suitable roadhouse for most of them were of the main road. There was a music festival on where we passed. Lots of cars were parked everywhere.. We were stopped by the Police. They were checking for drink drivers. We told them No Spanish and he said ,No Problem. and waved us through. We were very keen to see our next accomodation. On the picture it looked like a mini Castle. We went ... read more

We felt sorry to leave such a beautiful city but even good things come to an end. We had about 400 kilometres to reach our destination Zaragoza. Spain has amazing good roads, some are toll roads but this one was not and she was a beauty. We went through moiuntains as well as flat areas. We saw corn, grapes and olives, even fields of sun flowers. Arriving early afternoon in Zaragoza was very good for finding the Hotel was a drama. Spanish adresses are not accepted by the GPR, it gives you a complete different place and it says, " you have Arrrived". Not so. After a long search we found it, under a different name. We took it easy the rest of the day and later went out for a very nice meal in a ... read more

To still linger on in Toledo is easy. We were absolutely stoked with this beautiful medieval walled city. Every corner is worth a picture. We had a couple of incidents there. All Ladies and we say again all Ladies wave their fans to get a bit of coolness. It is real Spanish, so we thought we buy a couple. Not that expensive, two Euro each. We payed the man four Euros. He wrapped them while we looked through his shop. Back at the Hotel we unwrapped them and found only one. We thought if he is so short of money we gladly donated two Euros. Next day by chance we passed the shop, the man in question was not there. Telling the man that was there what happened. We even recognised the wrapping paper. The man ... read more

We cannot complain about the weather, for the sun shines every day. It gives an enormous heat that makes it nice to visit churches that are here mostly museums as well. We took most of the second day to visit the Cathedral, that houses lots ot treasures, in the way of paintings from El Greco, van Dyk and other famous artists. The church itself is started in the Visigothic times ,which is from 600 till 800 A.D. Tradition has it that the Blessed Virgin Mary decended in a particular place in the Basilica. There is a piece ot the original Altar kept in a glass case. Another item worth mentioning, is the painting of El Greco above the Altar, called El Expolio, dated 1587. There is a whole gallery of El Greco paintings in the Sacristy. ... read more

We left Granada and were quickly on the freeway towards Madrid. No Toll road but a very nice road that took us all the way to Toledo. Arriving early afternoon that gave us an oppertunity to see some parts of this amazing city. The story will be a bit short, for the internet is not available in our room, so we are sitting in the lobby to do this travelblogg. The walls around Toledo are mostly intact and of an amazing seize. As well as the gates. There are several of them. It was conquered by the Romans in 190 B.C. From that period you find foundations pillars etc from that city. From than on we see the Barbarians , the Moors and Christians taking on this city. Ferdinand the First," The Saint" commenced some of ... read more
