Dear All Oh my goodness! I can honestly say now, with days of evidence in hand, that Iceland is just amazing!! During the first couple of days of my Iceland Ring Road road trip, I had the most amazing time exploring some seriously wondrous locations in the north of this magnificent country. It was just amazing, with each day bringing on something completely different and equally stunning! It was just amazing! Upon leaving East Iceland, I actually felt a little sad to say goodbye to the host of the farmstead where I was staying. He was such a nice, wise and well-travelled guy. He enjoys his solitude on the farm, but also enjoys meeting his visitors when they come during the summer. I felt a connection with him. Still, it was good to move on and ... read more

Dear All This blog entry sends greetings from Iceland! When I arrived in this amazing country, I couldn't quite believe I was there. It is one of those mythical places you often read or hear about, but never imagine being able to visit. I felt the same about Japan, the Galapagos Islands, and now this remarkable island! I had it very much confirmed during my first few days, even hours there, that it is indeed a stunning and beautiful place. I loved my first few days there, and was so excited to explore more! In my last blog entry, I was drying off in my very cosy Air BnB in Hoyvík, back in the Faroe Islands, with the central heating on full blast drying off everything I was wearing and carrying on that soggy day. I ... read more

Dear All Wow! The Faroe Islands did not fail to impress. After recently writing my blog entry on my first few days on this amazing archipelago, I realised what an amazing time I had had there. But there was more in store for me, and this second and final blog entry on my time there aims to relate my adventures for a further four days that I spent on these incredible islands. I really enjoyed the second half of my week there, the scenery remained stunning, the experiences unique, and the people just as lovely. On the Saturday morning after spending the previous day with puffins, I had to move on from my accommodation spectacularly located on a hillside overlooking central Torshavn below and the island of Nólsoy in the distance. Although the place was peaceful, ... read more

Dear All Greetings! I am writing this blog entry on my first few days in my week-long stay in the magical, mystical and really quite incredible Faroe Islands. This former volcanic island archipelago lies only 500 miles north of the UK, but felt a complete world away - they are dark, brooding and majestic, rising suddenly out of the cold North Sea waters, with vertiginous cliff edges and diagonal green, grassy slopes, often shrouded in cloud, mist and fog, and have been described as the Hawaii of the North Atlantic. The landscape is just breathtaking, the people very friendly and welcoming, and there are some really spectacular sights to see. I'm surprised that there aren't more visitors, it still remains off the tourist radar, but to my mind this of course added to their charm - ... read more

Dear All I write this blog entry about my time in my second Scandinavian country visited this summer. After two weeks in Norway, having had an amazing time, enjoying stunning scenery at every turn, and happily encountering really friendly people, it was sadly time to leave. Whilst sad, I was also excited to start the next chapter of my summer travels. I was also quite ready to leave the accommodation in Arendal. While it had all the right amenities, with a great amount of space, a nice quiet location, and an absolute bargain at around £28 per night for a one-bedroomed flat with kitchen, bathroom and living room (seriously, I still can't believe this price for anywhere, let alone Norway!), there was still something about it that didn't make me feel completely comfortable there. I did ... read more

Dear All This blog entry relates my travels around the southern coast of Norway, dubbed the "Norwegian Riviera" as it is very much the country's favourite summer holiday destination. I took a break from the highlights of the western fjords and cruise ships, and delved I feel into a bit of the real Norway beyond the picture postcards. I spent a lovely three days on Norway's southern coast, off-the-beaten international tourist track, and spoke in Norwegian for pretty much my whole time there, impressing myself with how much I could get by with it. I could certainly say things I needed to say, and read things, but when people spoke back to me it was a bit trickier to understand. But I loved being able to practise it there, without people readily speaking back to me ... read more

Dear All Greetings, with this blog entry on more exciting adventures I had this summer in the western fjords of Norway - it certainly is a beautiful part of the world! Norway's western coast is actually so close to the United Kingdom, you don't really realise it - the country is indeed one of our closest neighbours, yet I don't think we really think of it as such. The language is also surprisingly not too different to English, due to our shared Viking roots, and with a bit of basic knowledge of it, it is actually fairly easy to read. It is, however, a little trickier to understand when it is spoken though! I had a really wonderful few days on this next part of my journey. On the Sunday, I bade farewell to Bergen as ... read more

Dear All If I publish something on the Internet today, it only feels right that I first start it off with a few words about our beloved Queen Elizabeth II. Thank you so much for all you have done for us Ma'am, for your people and for your country. You have been such an inspirational figure in my life, and I believe I speak on behalf of many of my fellow countrymen in saying that only now am I beginning to fully realise how much you have truly shaped this country and our identity during your lifetime of service. I have known no other Britain than that with you leading it, and these next few years will certainly be different. Dear All Greetings from London. Last week I got back from an epic five-and-a-half week adventure around the Nordic lands of Europe. As with my last trip around New England, I thought it best if this time I simply wrote notes as I travelled, and wrote up the proper blog entries upon my return home. This worked out well again this time, as again it meant I got to spend more time travelling and seeing the wonders of these amazing countries. I had a superb time and quite an epic journey, and over the coming weeks I plan to write up about my adventures in Norway, Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Iceland here, and also upload some photos alongside. I left the UK in the middle of July, just as the UK was experiencing an unprecedented ... read more

Dear All Greetings from London. It is the beginning of the summer holidays, and I am once more on the eve of an epic summer journey. Although I have done summer journeys for the last two years, these were both based in the UK, and thus this is my first epic travel adventure abroad since 2019. I am excited. Tomorrow I head up north, to begin a five-and-a-half week trip around Scandinavia. I first fly to Oslo where I will be spending around two weeks travelling through southern Norway. Then I take a ferry over to the northern tip of Denmark for a few days, before catching another ferry right across the North Sea and into the Atlantic Ocean for a week on the Faroe Islands. From here I take a final ferry further north and ... read more
