So we flew from Rio to Buenos Aires and headed straight down to PLaza Doreago to be greated by a line of people dancing down the street to some amazing drumming, tango dancers swanning around the plaza, jazz musicians playing in the street, empanadas (south american pasty) the size of your head and freshly squeezed orange juice being sold at the side of the street..... doesn´t get much better than that for a welcoming commitee. We loved our time in Buenos Aires as it is an amazing city with a real European flare combined with a South American flavour, an amazing [View Full Entry]

Don´t Cry For Me Argentina
Everyone Is Dying To Get In
Huge Slabs Of Meat

Last time we wrote we were off to find Jesus. Unfortunately he proved very aloof and hid behind some clouds all day and we basically saw his feet and shadowy outline in the clouds and that was it. Which was a pitty as Kiran was goning to re-enact some of the scenes from Romeo and Juliet - she gave it a go anyway. I think Jesus was hiding from all the horrible lies happening in the gift shop below.... basically they had photoshopped most of the photos of Jesus (Christ The Redemor as he is known locally) so that he faces [View Full Entry]

Under the Clouds

So we have hit Brazil and have travelled from the Iguazu Falls (again they looked just as awesome from the other side, if not more impressive) through to Curitiba and then up to Rio de Janeiro via a small island called Ihla do Mel. Brazilians do live up to the reputation of being amazingly helpful, happy and beautiful people (well at least the majority of the ones we have met). We have also now been joined by Kiran in Rio. Hooray! Sarita was soooooo excited about having her little sister join us, give her some respite from my attention deficit disorder [View Full Entry]

So after landing in Argentina we have raced across the northern aspect to the border of Brazil to see the Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side first (tomorrow we hit Brazil and then to meet Kiran in Rio). Basically since hitting Argentina we have sat around in nice central plazas sipping coffee and having tasty snacks during the day and meandering around the cities of Salta and Tucuman. At night we have wandered some more and ate large quantities of food (the only quantity you get is large or larger or ¨check me straight into hospital for gastric banding¨sizes). Some amzing [View Full Entry]

Dealing With Your Fears
On Top Of Salta
Huge Falls

Just thought I´d show the great look I am sporting here in this photo taken at the top of the mountain overlooking Salta. It was after doing a good 24 hours plus from Boliva on buses and having absolutely no more clean clothes apart from the ones I had in the shot. Note the classic honkey tourist positioning with arms and legs dead straight. Also take note of the amazing sock lines in this little puppy.... it´s like I have gone the David Beckman look of wearing white socks with flip flops. [View Full Entry]

So we have just left Boliva and have ended up in Argentina..... and already have eaten enough steak to last me a life time (it has been 2 days here!) So Boliva..... Boliva is very, very high with an average height of 3750m above sea level. Unfortunately we only got to see a little of Boliva and didn´t see any jungle areas and hence for us Boliva appeared to be very, very dry (except for the Death Road) So we landed in Copacabana (in Boliva not Brazil) starting our journey to the border of Boliva on bicycle with our guide Edwin [View Full Entry]

The Running of the Donkeys
Bus to La Paz
The Death Road

When got to Puno and went and saw the reed islands. They are fairly amazing. The original tribe that built them did so to get away from benig picked on by other tribes in the area. Good idea, you just get some blocks of reeds and form an island, then put more reeds on top and build things out of reeds to use as houses and boats. They just anchor them into the lake bed to stop from floating away. Every little island had about 20 people on it and each had their own president. The only drawback that Sarita brought [View Full Entry]

Escape from Cusco! South America » Peru » Puno » Puno
So we had to try and get out of Cusco because of our ridiculously tight time schedule we have no time to waste. The problem was that the locals in the province of Puno were cheesed at the governor as he had plans to build a big hydroelectric complex and take all their water supplies away. To hit him in the money pocket they decided to block all transport from Cusco to Puno, that includes all tourist vehicles. We went down to catch our bus as we were assured that the blocks were over ... they weren´t. We managed to then [View Full Entry]

Roadblock South America » Peru » Cusco » Cusco » Cusco
We´ll we are still in Cusco and looks like we may be for a few days. We were planning to head to Boliva via Lake Titicaca, but it appears the locals are a bit cheesed off about what they see as unlawful overuse of local resources and therefore have set up a roadblock and aren´t letting any buses through. It´s OK though as we have a great little hostel and have met some nice people here. If we can´t get on a bus today/tonight then we´ll head for the markets and some more Inca Ruins just out of Cusco in Pisca. [View Full Entry]

Well it has been a few days since finishing the Inca Trail and we are suprisingly feeling good. So much so that we have been off on a horse ride today..... well we sat on the back of some horses while they walked us through the countryside in the hills of Cusco. I think as with most people we were a little apprehensive about completing the Inca Trail as we are not the most active people in the world and not regular hikers or campers (as many know this has been Sarita´s first camping experíence). But hey we did it with [View Full Entry]
