We are ending up our trip now and 6 months has flown by. In a way we have been a little disappointed to finish in Tanzania but in another way it has been good as we are redy to head home now. OK this is just one couples experience in Tanzania so I would say it isn't the gospel on travel in Tanzania, especially as travel is so dependent on the luck of the draw of what people you meet along the way. Disclaimer over and down with, lets tell the tale. So there is this restaurant in London called The Fat Duck. It supposed to be the quintessential experience in gourmet dining. The problem is that everyone I have ever talked to says it is all hype and that while there's some interesting dishes that ... read more

We had been told there was a train from just outside Lusaka (Kapiri Mposhi) to Dar Es Salam in Tanzania that went through a few game parks and some other nice countryside. We decided, although it would take 48 hours, it would be a nice way to see some more of the countryside in these parts of Africa. Trip started in true Africa style. We arrived to catch our bus at 7.50am (it was due to leave at 8.45am but they told us to get there at 8am). As we arrived the early bus (7.30am departure) was just leaving... the guy we met the day before said 'oh you just missed the bus' and we said 'no we are on the 8.45am, you told us to get here at 8am', he said yes that was to ... read more

After leaving the tallest dunes in the world in Namibia we headed through to the Etosha Pan for some game drives and then it was off to Botswana. First we were off to the Okavango Delta for some bush camping near a beautiful swimming hole to doze off to sleep to the sound of roaring lions, mokoro rides (they are Botswanian canoes which are pushed along by poles in a gondala style) and for game walks. I was well impressed with the game drives but they are nothing on a bush walk in search of animals lead by your guide (our guide was Shakes) armed with his magic stick that seems to ward off any danger - well it worked for us. We saw leopards, zebras, elephants, impalas, hippos, giraffes, baboons and snakes - heard the ... read more

Hi all We're just about to head out of Namibia into Botswana. For a place that we weren't going to see it has been amazing. Huge stretches of open lands full of incredibly beautiful landscapes and amazing sunsets every night. Oh and did we mention the animals ... we've seen everything from chipmunks to cheetahs to lions :) Just need to find some elephants and rhinos now. We've got 2 days camping in the bush coming up .. but as seasoned campers now it'll be a piece of cake ....hopefully! Sorry we have to run and catch a bus now so no time for animal photos..... we'll have to save that for the Wildlife Photography of the Year competiton in London, you'll all get invites :)... read more

We are loving Africa. Great people and amazing scenery. While in J'Burg we did visit the Apartheid Museum, and a few historical landmarks in Soweto, which was an eye opener. Leaves you a bit shell shocked by how people could have thought the whole idea of racial segregation was a good idea! We then jetted down to Capetown where we went up Table Mountain by cable car (again!!!!!....Sarita tells me this is the last one for the holiday but she has said that before) and we visited Robben Island where Nelson stayed for a while (18 years). Then we hired a car and hit the Garden Route, armed with our camping gear and saw some beautiful scenery, did some camping, some hikes and I got some surf in.....hooray! Sarita had a go at surfing too... she ... read more

Hello all This is just a quick blog (no photos I'm afraid as we have only a little time on the internet) just to let you all know we are alive and kicking. Also just to let you all know we are heading off on a drive around the bottom of South Africa and then we head off to Botswana via Namibia so we won't be on the computer for a while. Africa has been fantastic so far with really friendly people and beautiful scenery. We will tell you more later when we have a little time to upload some photos. Bye for now Adam and Sarita ... read more

Yes in the words of the great singer/songwriter Peter Allan 'I still call Australia home' and why wouldn't you, it rocks. Good work to all those friends and family smooth talking Sarita on the virtues of the great land, now if someone could just provide us with stacks of cash and some good jobs for us and some of the UK family to move over to, we would be there in a second. It was all a bit of a whirlwind tour but still great to catch up with all our friends and family in Melbourne, Adelaide, Armidale/Bellingen and Sydney. Especially happy that Grandad finally got to meet Sarita and that we both got to meet Jake. We sat and chilled out at some great cafes and pubs in Melbourne and caught a tram around the ... read more

It was great to have a little stop over between Chile and Australia, even if it was a bit of a jet lagged haze. We landed in Auckland and stayed with Jack and Jana for a few nights (they treated us so well...thanks guys), and also got to catch up with Sukhpreet And Evelyn on one day. We decide that with only 4 days in NZ we could only spare a few days out of Auckland and hence rented a car to drive up to the Bay of Islands to visit some amazing beaches and see some big old trees in the forests there. We were blown away by the beautiful scenery, friendly people and amazing food. I particularly liked the lady in the supermarket asking me for ID to prove the I was older the ... read more

Running a bit behind with our blog entries since hitting NZ and Oz, but thought I better finish off the South American leg of the travels. Chile was awesome! We did struggle a bit with their take on Spanish, but were relieved when we met people who could speak Spanish fluently that said "oh yeah we can't understand what the people in Chile say either"..... apparently they use a lot of slang, which as a true blue Aussie I can relate with the temptation to twist the mother tongue that was taught to you by the motherland until it is almost unrecognizable, we have done the same to English :) There are also a lot of statues of a guy called Don Bosco in Chile - now I thought that was the guy who played Mr ... read more

Last time we wrote we had just been on the glacier in El Calafate in Argentina. Well we headed up to El Chaten and did some day hikes through some amazing countryside with more glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and some even more amazing tasty cakes! Then it was time to say goodbye to Argentina and head down to Puerto Natales in Chile and the famous Torres del Paine. Now the whole deal with Torres del Paine is that it this amazing countryside that you send 5 to 7 days hiking around and getting at one with nature - unfortunately the budget and timeframe didn“t allow for that so we justed buzzed around in a minibus and did a few short hour or so walks - rather than getting at one with mother nature we more just sat ... read more
