So the final part of my SA blog is finally here...time has indeed flown away with itself Our next part of the trip was up to Iguazu Falls. We did both the Argentina side and the Brazil side. There were so many places to walk around in the Argentina side and so many vantage points to check out the falls. We also took a boat trip which took us Under the falls which was great fun. We got completely soaked and unfortunately someone stupidly forgot to take out their passport and purse from their pockets....so I now have a very manky looking passport to tell the tale. The falls are really impressive, but the most impressive is the number of rainbows you see, they are everywhere and as we were lucky with the weather they came ... read more

So after a very very long bus ride we eventually made it to Buenos Aires. I instantly fell in love with the place. From the stunning architecture, the cat park!, the tango and street music everywhere you turned to the cute boutique shops and busy vibrant atmosphere, it had everything you wanted and so many things to do and see that our 4 days wasnt really enough. They are unsurprisingly quite big on Eva Peron, so the afternoon we arrived, we visited the Eva Peron museum, a place that idealized the woman, she really could do no wrong!! We also went to see the cemetery where she was buried. It was like no cemetery I had seen before, hundreds of elaborate crypts side by side, of such a grand size it was like walking around a ... read more

SO Cordoba and Mendoza...via the lake district I never really had a chance to write much on Cordoba. But had a lot of fun hanging out there for the week, learning spanish, doing a salsa class where i tried to avoid the very slimey men trying to dance with me and visiting Che´s house which was pretty cool. It also held one of the biggest folklore festivals in South America, so we checked that out too...I didnt realise folklore wasnt folk music, so the taste of music wasnt exactly for me, but a good experience none the less. Cordoba is not the prettiest of places but if you look you will find, and it definitely had something special about it... Next stop was Mendoza which unfortunately didnt leave any lasting memory apart from the fact that ... read more

Greetings from Argentina....Ive seen a lot of places since the last blog so I shall start from Salta, our first stop in Northern Argentina. Wow, I really did love Salta. A perfect place to start off in and I was quite upset to leave. Not too big and not too small with a pretty plaza with bundles of al fresco dining and music on the streets. We spent a few days here chilling out and wandering around getting ourselves used to be being back in civilization...traffic lights, paved roads, proper shops and normal flushing toilets with no buckets required, what a treat!. In Salta, we visited an archaelogical museum which is famous for its 500 year old mummified inca child which is on display. A little bit creepy for me, but still, it was amazing how ... read more

So the Salar de Uyuni trip. Well what can I say, it was quite a breathtakingly beautiful experience. I have added as many pics as I can to give you an idea, but really it doesnt compare to seeing the real thing. Apologies, I hope im not rubbing it in or anything! ;). The trip was spent travelling for 4 days in a jeep, stopping at passing lagoons of all different colours with various types of flamingoes, driving through incredible desert landscapes that looked like watercolour paintings, and lots of active and dormant volcanoes along the way, one of which we got to tread across. This was all leading up to a drive across the salt lake/desert depending on what season you went in (it was lake for us mostly) which is larger than the Great ... read more

Wow, its been so long since Ive written in my blog but I´m back and ready to hopefully fill up a couple of pages with more news..so let me start from our journey since La Paz.... The jungle never happened which was a real shame. We waited and waited for the plane and gave up after 3 days of rain and no sign of us going anywhere. So we decided to head off somewhere else for Christmas and chose Sucre as our destination. This was a 13 hour bus ride on an old public bus with women and children sleeping in the aisles and no toilet!! Oh and did I mention this was Christmas Eve?! SO we managed to witness a Very bad car wreck and get stuck in the mud for a short while, but ... read more

Am presently holed up in La Paz waiting for a yay or nay of whether we can fly to Rurrenabaque in the jungle (it was cancelled yesterday because of bad weather). So may as well do a little recap of Bolivia while I wait. So Copacabana...Its supposed to be a chilled out hippy place which I thought was right up my street, or potential street at least!. Found a very pink looking hostal to crash and then spent the afternoon wandering around and dipping our feet into Lake Titicaca, it was just like being by the sea, and the twinkles it created in the water was incredible, stunning in fact! That night we found some nice food and ended up in a bar where I got some words of wisdom from the barman. He was from ... read more

December 17th 2008

Just a short blog entry for my final stay in Peru. Left Cusco early morning to catch the bus to Puno which only managed to break down once! (luckily another bus was only 30mins away). Arrived in Puno late afternoon to the pouring rain so got the first available hostal, dumped our ever increasing rucksacks (there are too many amazing textiles and jewellery to purchase!) and went for a wander. Puno isnt that beautiful a place, however its very close to Lake Titicaca, in fact a ten minute walk away so it has its benefits! We took a boat over to the floating islands the following morning which were pretty incredible. Made entirely from reeds and populated by the Uros people, it certainly has a sense of calm and tranquility to it. The surfaces were pretty ... read more

So I made it back from Machu Picchu in one piece, hooray!!! Just sat in an internet cafe downloading the 200 photos! Dont worry, I wont bore you with them all...just a few to wet the appetite What an amazing experience though. The scenery en route to machu picchu blew me away the most, such varied terrain and every turn had spectacular mountain views, I felt so high up in the world!. We went through forests and jungle like paths, saw my first hummingbirds and had butterflies following us along route...very idealic. The paths were steep both up and down, so although going up was tough, going down was slightly more hairy making sure you didnt catch yourself out on a loose rock! On one particular day as the sun beat down, encircled around it was ... read more

Hola, back again! Just thought that I would write a final note before the end of my time in Cusco. Its been a week or 2 since I last wrote and I´ve managed since then to learn some salsa, play the pan pipes, experience mountain biking for the first time (ouch!!) and gain a 40hour intensive spanish school certificate, hooray!! Last weekend we had a day out visiting various Inka ruins near to Cusco (Saqsaywaman, Q´enco, Tambomachay). Saqsaywaman on the saturday was most eventful. We got ourselves a guide on site who showed us around. All was going well until he asked us if we were up for an adventure...so we said yes of course! Big Mistake. He led us into a cave which was pitch black and narrow and suddenly dropped down so we were ... read more
