Final days in Peru

Just a short blog entry for my final stay in Peru.

Left Cusco early morning to catch the bus to Puno which only managed to break down once! (luckily another bus was only 30mins away).

Arrived in Puno late afternoon to the pouring rain so got the first available hostal, dumped our ever increasing rucksacks (there are too many amazing textiles and jewellery to purchase!) and went for a wander. Puno isnt that beautiful a place, however its very close to Lake Titicaca, in fact a ten minute walk away so it has its benefits!

We took a boat over to the floating islands the following morning which were pretty incredible. Made entirely from reeds and populated by the Uros people, it certainly has a sense of calm and tranquility to it. The surfaces were pretty spongy to walk on and thats mainly because the island is only about a foot deep and from there on down its all water. A boat also made of reeds then took us to an island that had a little school where the kids seemed to be more interested in talking and messing about than doing any work! They also seemed keen to try and make me say words I shouldnt (such as cochina which I believe is along the lines of dirty girl!) - luckily I didnt succumb, but I did get told that one of the boys had 4 women, so they obviously like variety!

The rest of the day in Puno was spent lazing about, taking a duck shaped pedalo around the murky waters close to the lake and sunning ourselves by the port - this wasnt such a good idea as I´m still recovering from a lobster face!. Must remember to use more suncream....

Next is Copacabana and the sun island called Isla del Sol, but this is in Bolivia so deserves a new blog page! Adios Peru!
